This is Miley Cyrus’s sister. She is 9. And I’m trying to breathe.

Screenshot_06

Not they are not Shauna Sands' daughters. I'm trying to work this story out and no matter how deep I dig and how many links I click, I just can't get past how deeply uncomfortable it makes me. Here we have Miley Cyrus's sister Noah and her BFF Emily Grace Reaves. They are 9 and they appeared on the red carpet last week at some 19 year old starlet's 'retro pool party'. No, I don't know why they were at a 19 year old's birthday party posing on a red carpet like…..well, in a way that is kind of disturbing. The caption on this photo and others (after the jump) reads:
Noah Lindsey Cyrus & Emily Grace Reaves, with Emily's dog Bunny, pose for the cameras at Brittany Curran's Retro 50's Poolside Bash on Saturday, May 30 in Burbank sporting Juicy Couture vintage bathing suits. The two friends filmed an episode of their Noei and Ems Show at the party. So pretty!

Did you catch the bit where THEY FILMED AN EPISODE OF THEIR REALITY SHOW at the party? Yeah, uh-huh. They have their own show which they broadcast on THEIR OWN YOUTUBE CHANNEL. Why does a nine year old need a reality show? Or a youtube channel? Why?

These shots appeared on a site called Ocean Up and I can't understand what that is either. Oh my head is hurting about now and my fingers are twitching because I want to grab SOME APPROPRIATE CLOTHES AND GET ON A PLANE TO PLANET NUTCASE where the families of these two little girls obviously live. Billy Ray Cyrus? I know you have questionable taste in haircuts and music but are you SERIOUSLY allowing your youngest daughter to do this stuff?

Here are the rest of the pictures and after that, an episode of their 'show' and I'm off to have a large glass of outrage and a long nap.Screenshot_09 Screenshot_07 Screenshot_08

I first saw these photos in the Miley cyrus’s little sister is selling fishnets post and consequently didn’t know they were going to a pool party. So the shock level decreased dramatically. So what, it’s a pool party, you wear swimmers, no biggie! and they look so cute!!

BUT then the shock level increased again after the following realisation. and I think a lot of the people who think these pictures are harlmess have forgotten this:

These aren’t cute happy snaps taken by mum and dad at uncle Ben’s pool to put in the family album. These are YOUNG girls in SWIMMERS on a RED CARPET, POSING in front of maybe 20 or more PAPARAZZI.

    totally agree with you Mia!

    Thumb up +1

  2. Kitty Kat says:

I canot believe this. Thes 2 are 9 YEARS OLD. 9 YEARS OLD. My gosh, their going to have time to wear things like that when they are older and and its acceptable than but thats just awful, and what in the world is wrong with the Cyruses to let those children go out in public like that?????

    they are soo cute

Cool, more brats to laugh at when they have to go into rehab at 13 for “stress”.

Parents, encourage your kids to do this, then send your photos and videos to Pedophiles….i am sure nothing bad will happen.

How dumb do we have to get.

    Jessuss!

  5. Kathryn Peirce says:

Oh come on! lets get a grip shall we. Its a POOL PARTY and they are realy cute little swimmers! I’d put my daugher in them! the’re realy cute! Those little girls look so sweet in them.

The Red Bull is highly inapproprate and I’m not sure about them being at a 19yo b’day party.

My daughter is always covered up and wears leggins with skirts (little girls never keep their knees together!)I dont like inapproprate dress on a child but those swimmers are too cute.

    • the little one says:

Mm yes it is a pool party. but not a pool party at aunty Jane’s house in the suburbs, but a 19 YEAR OLD’S pool party with a RED CARPET and PARADING AROUND IN YOUR SWIMMERS in fornt of PAPARAZZI.

I agree the swimmers look cute, but its the context and situation that is important here. Would be happy to let your daugher wear these swimmers, walk down a red carpet and have her picture taken by 20 or so photographers and those photos put in magazines and on the internet?

  6. Jayne says:

I have no problem with kids dressing up in their bedrooms. But letting them parade down the street in swimsuits at age 9 and pose provocatively is foul. It also opens them up to cruel comments on their bodies, as you can see on the OceanUp site.

Couldn’t they have worn cute little sundresses and changed into their swimmers INSIDE?

Don’t get me started on the hair dye, make up and Red Bull.

  7. nats says:

The girls are just dutifully absorbing the female role models they’ve been exposed to. They should be congratulated for their ability to comprehend what society wants from them. I wouldn’t be surprised if ballet classes were superceded by pole dancing lessons.

To the person who asked what a little girl needed a handbag for, they have as much need for a handbag as a woman does…not much! But it looks pretty huh.

  8. B says:

It’s just two little girls playing dress ups and having fun. I think their swimsuits are quite demure. I am woman and I consider myself a feminist. I don’t understand the outrage expressed by other posters. To me it seems awfully judgemental.

Late once again, but as I’ve been assured that many people do read these last few posts in a thread…

Clearly, every American acts like this and allows their 9 year olds to parade around like miniature prostitutes. It’s the American way! And it certainly merits a tourism boycott, as suggested by fender (who normally has much more well-reasoned comments). Why, we’re only going to use your hard-earned money to buy our pre-teens hair extensions and fake breasts!

Please, can we limit the discussion to the disturbing nature of these little girls’ apparent lives (as most posters are doing), and avoid the America-bashing?

  11. having a daughter who is 3 and who has already said she has a big belly, this to me is so disturbing. Where is the innocence of being a child gone? I know I will do my best to have my daughter be a child, which these girls are.

Wow, that ‘episode’ was EXCRUCIATINGly boring! I only kept going cos I was hoping for an explanation of that hand symbol the shorter girl keeps doing with her two fingers in all the photos… But I didn’t find out. How obnoxious and self-indulgent to think that your kids are interesting enough to warrant your own reality show which you broadcast urself on ur own youtube account. *rolls eyes*

I think this has to be one of the most disturbing things I’ve ever seen and I didn’t even watch the video. The clothing, the hair, the poses, are all wrong, wrong, wrong…. and the red bull swigging shot is just appalling – these CHILDREN are 9 years old! The parents of these girls (and any adults involved in the production of these ‘characters’) should be absolutely ashamed. What is the world coming to???

kzmet, i think it’s a bit harsh not letting your daughter watch Disney. Sure, Disney stars might not always make the right choices, but the channel as a whole has amazing shows on it and characters that children (and teenagers) can look up to. All teenagers make mistakes, it’s just these stars have theirs broadcast for the entire world to see.
Sorry, that was kind of off topic, but the families+mistakes of the stars on a channel shouldn’t entirely influence whether you let your child watch it. Are you going to let them watch shows with sex/drugs/violence instead? That’s such a better option…

Kids playing dressups I get. Wanting to emulate older sibs, ditto. Parents selling their children to the masses while they do the above, not so much. If I did that wih my kids, I’d have DoCS on my doorstep in a heartbeat, I’d be divorced, and my mother would be browbeating me for the rest of my life.

Sad what money and poor self esteem can bring people to do to their children.

Gasping alike with you on this one! These poor darlings are surrounded by intellectually challenged adults. There is a huge difference between the smartly famous, talented people who shun the limelight and the way less smart, will-do-anything-to-get-fame ‘celebrities’. Did you know that golfer Tiger Woods is classified as a ‘celebrity’ – well, he is according to your average ‘entertainment reporter’. And to think, all this time I thought Tiger was a well-mannered, charming, world class golfer famous because of his talent for playing golf and handsome sponsorships by well-known brands. Doh!

but, call me crazy, when i was nine, i wasn’t dying my hair or wearing black liquid eyeliner.

playing with makeup is one thing, but perfectly done liquid liner is a completely different thing. i mean, most adult women struggle to master the liquid liner, let alone a nine year old.

My 8 year old sister carries around out smallest dog all the time. She changes outfits 3 times a day and if she were going to a pool party or to swimming lessons, she would probably wear something like this.
At her dance class, they make up dances and scripts and sometimes film it so the girls can watch it back.
When I was her age I was exactly the same.

They’re at a pool party in age appropriate bathers. get over it.

  42. Kate says:

To comment further on what Maryann said. Yes, parents will say their kids want to do it. And its probably the truth – the kids probably do want to do it. When i was a kid i pranced around playing dress ups, pretending to be famous, pretending to be an office lady, pretending to be a mum, pretending to be a pop star; playing all sorts of roles. Most girls do this in the safety and privacy of their own bedroom with a hairbrush. The sad sad thing is that these girls are being allowed to live out this fantasy in what is not a fantasy world, but the real one. Its awful.

  43. gg says:

Mia, Oceanup is a gossip website specifically for disney (and other teenage) stars. Quite informative most of the time, also quite unreliable, but it’s good reading.
Anyway, getting to the point, I cannot stand the Cyrus family. Noah is nine. Who lets their nine year old dress like that? Who lets their nine year old have a youtube channel? Who lets their nine year old go to a nineteen year olds birthday party when the birthday girl isn’t family? It’s completely inappropriate, and just another reason why we should ignore the cyrus family as role models. What’s Noah going to be like at her sisters age? Her parents need to learn where to draw the line, and what’s age appropriate.
I think one of the worst things is she’s guzzling red bull. Those drinks have health risks for adults, what’s it going to do to a nine year old?

I’ll build a bridge over the Red Bull – not that I’d go there with a 9 year old, but hey, it’s not going to kill her.

But the outfits? They’re meant to be ’sexy’ I think, but they’re 9.

What’s wrong with a 9 year old acting like … a 9 year old. She should be running around her backyard looking for snails. Or playing tips. Or nagging mum or dad to take them to the park.

A massive lesson in how not raise kids.

I agree with Alix. Where are their parents! If I had a 9 year old I wouldn’t let them walk down the street or around a shopping centre by themselves, let alone on a red carpet for all the world to see. The red bull, the outfits, the sexulisation of youth, the teenage parties etc I actually think this should be viewed as a modern type of neglect/abuse?? Don’t think they are the correct terms … but I hope you get my drift???

I can’t believe we live in a world where these sorts of kids and their parents exist, let alone a society that puts them up on a pedestal. So so very wrong and so so very sad. Where is the line to child abuse, surely this must get close to crossing it?

Teellcee, are you for real? The issue here isn’t the fact that the children are clearly loving wearing what they’re wearing and being on the red carpet, it’s the fact that their parents, ADULTS, are letting them do this. Dressing up in the privacy of their home is one thing, but in public? Like this? It is inappropriate on so many levels!!! Children need to be protected from the ridiculousness of Planet Nutcase as Mia aptly put it, not paraded like this.

    Thumb up 0

  60. Cerry says:

Realistically, isn’t the only problem here that they’re on a red carpet? They’re wearing swimmers and thong-type things to a pool party. Normal behaviour. And they’re not even wearing bikinis, which I’ve seen lots of 9 year olds do. The point where it becomes strange is the red carpet. And a little bit the Youtube channel, but how many parents put videos of their kids dancing etc up on Youtube, so family and friends can see it?
Yeah, it’s mildly disturbing, but so is the fact that the poor girl is called Noah.

This is just an updated version. There are a billion YouTube channels, it’s not like they’re on Cable! Anyone can have one! I watch ones on craft tutorials and bearded dragons, so this is nothing! If I had a chance to be on the “red carpet” (and that’s pushing it when it was just a pool party!) at 9yo I would have been there with Mum’s lippy and high heels on and my yellow floral bikini in an instant! Not exactly Jon Benet! And ALL little kids want to be like their big brothers and sisters, how perfectly normal is that? As for the Red Bull, big no-no, but that’s another issue…..

I think it’s disgusting how parents could sell their children’s childhoods out like that.
