Matt Preston is the sexiest man on television. Here is a movie about him.

http://www.masterchef.com.au/images/image-mattpreston-294x450.jpg

Ok, maybe not the sexiest. But there’s something about food critic Matt Preston that is utterly compelling to watch. In an INSPIRED piece of casting, a large man with swash-buckling hair and a jaunty collection of cravats WHICH HE NAMES (I read this on Twitter so it’s obviously true) has become the unlikely hero and breakout star of the hottest show on TV.

Do you watch Masterchef? We do. It’s a family experience. After the jump, the most sensational video tribute to Matt Preston you will ever see…….

Still want more? ME TOO!!!!

Here is some information on Matt via the Masterchef website:

Internationally acclaimed and revered food critic Matt Preston joins
fellow judges Gary Mehigan and George Calombaris on the judging panel.

Matt
has a swag of prestigious awards to his name, including the World’s
Best Food Journalist 2008 (World Food Media Awards), a highly sought
after honour. Matt completed his tenure as Creative Director of the
Melbourne Food and Wine Festival earlier this year, a role he held for
over five years and one which has seen him transform the Festival into
a world-class event.

Matt has written and reviewed for a number of Australia’s most
prestigious publications, including Epicure (The Age), Vogue
Entertaining & Travel (Senior Editor), Delicious (Senior Editor),
Australian Good Taste, The Guardian newspaper (UK) and Time Out
(London). He is also National Chair of Judges at the Restaurant &
Catering Industry Association’s National Awards for Excellence.

Matt brings a dazzling array of scarves and cravats as well as a
dozen years experience as a reviewer, eating his way around Australia
and the world, to MasterChef Australia. He is debonair and cultured,
and the contestants will be desperate to impress him with their dishes.

“Some of Australia’s best cooking doesn’t happen in restaurants but
in ordinary Aussie homes. MasterChef Australia celebrates these great
home cooks, whether it is a mum of three, a lawyer, a labourer or a
foodie who sees cooking as their hobby. It’s a show that unites
Australians of all backgrounds and from all walks of life through a
common love of food and the joy we all share breaking bread together” -
Matt Preston.

Some one will have to start a Matt Preston fan club now….. ;-D

He is just so mesmerizing to watch. He has flair and a true sense of his own identity, and he is so sensual. Watching him eat and savor what is in his mouth.. and those eyes! Mmmmm I can just picture him eating fresh strawberries off his lovers stomach. Wearing a cravat of course! :-D

Haven’t tried the coco pops and cream, but a very old family favorite of ours is rice bubbles and fresh cream, with a light sprinkle of sugar over the top for that bit of texture and crunch. Bliss…. (Thanks Mum for that one XXX).

I think that Chris will win, as he really seems to think outside the square at times.

It’s Garry who gives me tingles.

Matt Preston is not from this century. He is a gourmand dropped into our world from another time.

I think he should always be accompanied by moving piano pieces.

I worked with Matt Preston a million years ago at a publishing house and he was EXACTLY the same then. His TV style is his style!

Love him. It’s the way he dresses, uses language and eats his food ,,, pure sensualist. Is Mr Preston bringing sexy back to channel 10?

  7. Martina says:

We love MasterChef in our house, as we did the Biggest Loser – we sit together as a family and watch at mealtimes – though my lame dinners obviously don’t compare. My two little girls love cooking and are fascinated by the fast pace cooking challenges. Having recently discovered I have allergies to yeast, cows milk and eggs (yes, MAJOR diet changes in our house) I have taken more interest in cooking and shows like this inspire me to make more of an effort. Matt is undoubtedly the star of the show – he is fantastic. Sexy? Hmmm, not my cuppa tea but definitely lovable, like a big teddy bear.

And as for the annoying “yeahs”, this irritates my husband no end. He cheered when SYTYCD ended because it was the last we would hear of Jason Coleman saying it all the time, only to give me the death stare when we started to watch MasterChef and George said it for the first time…

I love reading that so many other families love this show!!! Kids and I wait every day…. my 8 year old is always disappointed on Sat as it’s not on! We have tried some of the recipes too. I find myself singing the theme all the time…. and my kids will eat tea, bath, brush teeth… do homework just so they can watch it all! Kids at my work play MC all the time too!!! It’s a fabulous show!!! My son’s fave is Chris… I’m not sure really… I LOVED watching Julie cook the pigeon tonight…. hands down best family TV at the moment… and Matt… he is a gentle giant, love him!

  10. Mumbos, apparently (and as Mia would say ‘(I read this on Twitter so it’s obviously true’), Matt is married with three kids and is around 6′5″.

  11. julia-maree says:

PS Just read the other comments and “yeah” totally agree about George. It seems to be a thing with chefs .. I’ve noticed Jamie Oliver, Gordon Ramsay and even our own Matt Moran adding “yeah” at the end of every sentence on their cooking shows.

    Thumb up 0

  12. julia-maree says:

I love this show – am totally addicted but the look of Matt Preston leaves me cold. A combination of his fashion sense and hairstyle -can’t quite put my finger on it…. I’m sure he is a great food critic and I’m not against his judging style as I think all three judges are fair in their criticism of the dishes cooked and offer a lot of invaluable advice to the contestants but I just can’t warm to Matt as I have to the other two judges.

  13. Mumbos says:

Girls, you’re giving me the best laugh of the day.

The food and wine show is on in Sydney in a couple of weeks – I have everything crossed that He’ll be there.

While having a chat with some girls last week about unusual crushes – another one of mine was sitting at the next table – Dicko from Australian Idol. Mmmm.

Back to Matt though, does anyone know any other juicy info? Is there a significant-other-Preston? And just how jolly tall is he!!??

    Thumb up 0

  14. Holy crap, Mia. I thought I was the only one who had the hots for MattsCravat. I’ve been drooling over him every night and can only explain it by screaming things like, “but look at the way he CHEWS!”. Sex on legs.

    Thumb up 0

  15. Bianca says:

Wow – I thought I was the only one who thought this! I actually had a dream about him about a week into and show and was a little ashamed… who knew there were many other ladies out there feeling the same way! LOL!~

  16. Redhossy says:

Um… and next season I think George needs a few lessons in table manners before they start shooting. He just shovels it in and I have to look away when he eats. So very unbecoming. (Matt would never do that.)

    Thumb up 0

  17. Redhossy says:

    SO GLAD I’M NOT ALONE!
Matt Preston has had opportunities galore to be scathing, snarky and just downright mean to everyone on that show. But he’s not. Because he’s NICE.
In the first episode of MC I had him picked as ‘the nasty judge’… and then he spoke.
He was kind, and fair and complimentary. And when dishes stank, he said they stank. It’s refreshing to see an ‘expert’ on TV who is just that – a true professional who has no need to resort to cheap tricks like That Gordon Ramsay.
And one more thing. I never thought I’d have a crush on a guy in a cravat… but I absolutely love the expression on his face when he tastes something delicious. It’s a look of true love, such relish and tenderness…*sigh* I wish he’d look at me like that…

    Thumb up 0

  18. Bridgette says:

Callie I agree about the Mr Darcy thing – I loved the cravats Colin Firth wore in the BBC series.
I think a man or woman who really enjoys their food is very sensual…It is attractive indeed.

I’ve always thought spending money on a great meal was worth more than spending it on clothes because you take so many memories with you.

    Thumb up 0

  19. Mumbos says:

That was brilliant!!! Our family watches MC every night together. My husband has now taken to perving on Justine, but I’ve always had a thing for Mr Preston. Knowing food that well is so sexy. He’s of like a cross between Jabba and Hugh Jackman – in the nicest possble way.

I just burnt my tongue tasting my minestrone – I rarely tasted my cooking before MasterChef.

    Thumb up 0

  20. Kimberley says:

Ha! I think you’re spot on; he ain’t handsome, but his outfits and the way he grimaces at the food before slowly smiling with pleasure.. and the way he slowly eats the food, oh man. Like a car crash. Can’t look away!

    Thumb up 0

  21. Callie says:

I love this post – I thought I was the only one with the secret crush! There is something slightly mysterious and Mr Darcyish about him!

  22. kzmet says:

Gawd, this is one of those moments when I wish I could divulge the goss…..but I will get in too much trouble.

My bro is a crew member on Masterchef, apperently things are not what they seem. Ironically,(or not?) I live in the country and cannot get commercial telly sooo, only seen it a few times visiting family. One thing that really annoys me though that no one mentioned is George eating with his mouth wide open everytime, so you can see all the masticated food rolling around inside his mouth AND how he uses his knife and fork like an american, cutting it up before putting down the knife and picking up his fork.

BTW its nothing like UK Masterchef on Lifestyle food, dunno why they bothered buying the format from them, all they use is the name.

I love any cooking show- they all rock except Ready, Steady Cook.

    Thumb up 0

  23. Sarah says:

Matt Preston – passionate? yes. brilliant? yes. colourful? certainly. But sexy? not sure i agree on this one. Would probably prefer Gary really!
Masterchef is certainly one of the best things on TV at the moment. Not something I share with my kids though … they are tucked up in bed so I can watch and enjoy in peace.
Actually, I burnt the cheese on toast I was making for my 13month old while writing this – ooops.

  24. Dear mia. I first saw masterchef when I returned to australia after being away for a couple of years, and I thought this guy was Mikey Robbins! Then I found out that Mikey Robbins got skinny and it def. wasn’t him…

    Thumb up 0

  25. mare says:

I agree Louise, Matt does seem very kind.He doesn’t seem into the whole ‘I’m on TV!!’ thing that George does sometimes. I love how he dresses and looks. We don’t need more same-old same-old on TV do we?
I have been watching the show religiously ( even though I hate cooking, I like eating very much) and I have no idea who will win. They are all quite amazing!
I thought Po was absolutely gorgeous. Not that that is the point at all I know…the way she combined food and art so well was very interesting to me.
I loved the wedding episode as well! I was beside myself when I found out the show was going to be on for a whole hour and a half!! Very exciting!

  26. Barb Fisher says:

I am addicted to Masterchef. When it comes on my little 2 yr old yells ‘Mummy’s show! Mummy’s show!’. Strangely enough, I hate cooking but love cooking shows.

When the show first started, I was sure Matt was going to be unbearably pretentious and rude. Couldn’t have been further from the truth, he rocks! I love the way you can see him really tasting the food and then describing it so that even us gits out in TV-land can get a feel for it.

Re. George and the yeahs, he must have spent some time in the UK as this is very much a Brit thing. Even I came back from living in London whacking a yeah on the end of many of my sentences. I also love George’s enthusiam. I have walked past The Press Club so many times in Melbourne and wanted to give it a try. Next time I visit I’ll be beating down the door.

Re. a winner, I am thinking Justine or Chris.

    Thumb up 0

  27. Krissi says:

LOVE the show. Hubby thinks I am addicted to reality tv. Me, just good tv!
Can’t stand the ‘yeah’ either. I really like the way the judges are very constructive in their criticism. No bitchiness going on, if there is we don’t see it which is a fresh change.

I’m loving this show. It is the only television I watch. I agree, Matt Preston is great. My prediction is Julia or Justine to win. Can’t wait to try this coco pop cream/ ice cream treat.

  29. Louise says:

Ahhh that is funny here I was thinking I was the only one that found him strangely attractive!! I love him for all the reasons already listed – but especially his dress sense and kindness!!

    Thumb up 0

  30. Jess says:

Lesley, i noticed George saying “yeah” all the time too. I actually think he got it off Gordon Ramsey because he use to say it on Kitchen Nightmares all the time and i use to say then whats with the frikken “yeah” at the end of every sentence.

  31. wollywally says:

It is so good to read all the comments above about the show, my background is in cooking, I retired after having kids, I still love to wacht good cooking show, and all the drama and andrenalin that goes with it, I think the awareness that this kind of show bring about food in general , mostly how hard can be working in a kichen, you do need lots lots of passion for it, have been there myself, hat to them they are given us a great show, hope this will make you understand better the like of Gordom Ramsy, the pressure to have a 3 star Michelin is enormous, and eat in those kind of restaurant is a fantastic experience both for the palate and for the wallet, love to all

  32. Natalie says:

I have one better than coco pops on cream. coco pops and ice cream…. good quality ice cream. Its the effen bomb!!! Best late night snack. Hell i even skip dinner knowing i am going to eat that

  33. swishmusic says:

I just have to say I feel so glad reading these comments – I watched it with my 2 year old last night before putting her to bed and I thought perhaps it was not the most appropriate thing to be watching with her, but now I feel much more at ease. I just had to turn it off quickly when they took that massive cleaver to the fish’s head. It was still alive and I thought she might find it upsetting!
I love this show – if not for the fact that my husband who previously refused to cook (apparently there was no matching my skill so why try?!) is now attempting to create his own pizzas. Its a start.

P.S I do like Matt but I have to say I find the up-close camera shots of him and the other judges eating the food a bit gross. Maybe its just me?

    Thumb up 0

  34. Oh my god I am in LOVE with Masterchef – it’s like you’re all reading my mind when I read many of these comments!

I was so excited about the 90 min wedding episode last week that I blogged about it! But think the Croquenbouche episode was more dramatic.

I’m visiting my family at the moment, out of the country, & am actually missing it, which is a little tragic (the “catch up TV” on the website is restricted to Australia only).

Love Matt’s style (why be normal?); love Justine to win; George’s (& Jason’s) “Yeah” irritates the heck out of me, but I love the way George looks at women – he gets such a teddy bear – but at the same time “woah Mama” – look in his eyes, that I just melt! I think George had a particular soft spot for Sandra & I think Gary’s pet is Justine?

    Thumb up 0

  35. loubee says:

I LOVE masterchef too! I’ve been out of my mind busy with work, study, kids but somehow I always find time to watch masterchef at 7pm on the dot.

What about the croquembouche episode – the tension, the drama… we were on the edge of our seats!

Matt’s facial expressions are great – love the little half-smile, cue to inspirational music and the vibrant words that follow.

I think the casting is brilliant – these people really know their stuff yeah!!!!

    Thumb up 0

  36. DaniV says:

LOVE the video. Love Matt. And I love how he does that little smile when he tastes something great. Oh and the hair flick….. I wonder if he knows the following he has?

    Thumb up 0

  37. Catherine says:

Just to add balance, I am not a Matt fan. He obviously loves his food but a big man in white pants is ALL WRONG! Also the hair looks like it needs a wash!

That being said he does give constructive feedback and its nice to see that he isn’t trying to be the bad judge or get publicity.

    Thumb up 0

  38. ReneeP says:

Is this not the best show on T.V.? It’s our family fave at the moment, and i love Matt as well. Every time he eats you can see how he is really tasting the food, instead of just scoffing it down!!! Still not too sure who I want to win though!!!!

I agree with what some of you guys have said too about being able to discuss the different foods with the kids and it really opens their eyes to a whole new food world, and good quality, tasty food!!

My 10 year old daughter loves it so much that every night when we sit down to dinner, she critiques MY COOKING!!! My lasagne was a hit the other night with the sauce being ‘consistent’, with ‘great balance of meat and white sauce’ and a ‘generous’ portion!!! Yep she’s 10!!!

    Thumb up 0

  39. Leonie says:

I love MasterChef. LOVE IT. And I hate cooking! But I have been inspired to try a few new things thanks to the show and my husband is rapt. It will be interesting to see whether my newfound tolerance for cooking will continue once MasterChef finishes! As for the judges, I too love Matt Preston but Garry is my favourite. And I want Sam to win!

    Thumb up 0

  40. laura says:

I am so addicted to masterchef, and agree that Matt is an intelligent guy, and definitely not the sort of person who would be employed by Channel 10!!!!!!!
But I hate seeing him taste the food, something about his personal style and those cravates. I actually had to look away last night.

I think Justine is going to win. Yeah!!!!!!!

Coco pops and cream. Oh my. Oh. My.

I always imitate George in our house – yeah?
You know what I mean – yeah?
That’s a whole lot of yeahs – yeah?
We’re in Hong Kong – yeah?

Oh no I don’t like him at all – enjoy the show – but Matt ugghh – Can’t stand the kercheifs or cravats whatever they are – he certainly looks like he eats for a living :o

    Thumb up 0

  49. lesley says:

OOh forgot…does anyone else get the feeling that George is trying to be a little TOO enthusiastic and a little TOO gung ho at times?

WE’RE GOING TO HONG KONG!!!!!!!!! Yeah?

    Thumb up 0

  50. Aneets says:

Love him and love the show.

All the judges are great- I thought George was adorable with his ‘Guys, can you believe we’re in Hong Kong!’ every 5 minutes on Sunday night.

It is a huge family affair in our house- my daughters dance to the theme and call out all of the contestants names as they flash past- they even know the ones voted out first. We then have a boogie to the closing credits.

I got home late last night and the first words Miss 4 said to me was ‘Mama, you missed Masterchef tonight- Julie had to cook a fish, it was great!!’

It has been a lifesaver in my house and helped overcome some of the picky food issues which are an ongoing battle.

    Thumb up 0

  51. lesley says:

He’s sensational! I watched the video of him yesterday via Crikey…and laughed out loud. He really is an individual who knows his stuff but leaves the catty, vile comments to other well known food identities.

All power to Matt Preston…and Masterchef. Great show. Who will win?

    Thumb up 0

  52. That’s so funny…was just thinking about this very thing in the car on the way back from the school run and come back to find you’ve read my mind, Mia.

I adore Matt Preston…he’s the antithesis to the usual cookie cutter celebrity. I love his intelligence, his passion, and his sheer presence.

I’ve been re-reading a lot of his articles in Delicious and there’s a reason why he was voted World’s Best Food Journalist – the man can make words absolutely sing. So glad that talent is now being given wider exposure.

    Thumb up 0

  53. jo says:

My daughter was born a few weeks before the show started and The Biggest Loser finished (the irony of being more and more pregnant as one lot of contestants got thinner, and now being obbsessed with eating gourmet diy food while wanting to loose that weight is not lost on me). She always chose 7 o’clock to scream through the only show my husband and I made it priority to watch. Until when she was about 7 weeks old and we started laying her upright on pillows to interact with her and her eyes gravitated towards the tv. Now she’s 11 weeks old we’ve figured she must have had all those tantrums because she wanted to watch it too!

And Mia, Matt Preston is divine in that unlikely sexy way. Especially when I heard him say on the radio:
1, he has worn the cravats since 18 to cover his love bites.
2, his favourite recipe is coco pops made with fresh cream not milk, which i then tried. And fell in love with him all over again!

    Thumb up 0

  54. fat mum slim says:

I remember when I first saw him I was amazed by how beautiful his eyes were.

Did I just say that out loud? No. I actually typed it.

My friend’s 7 year old son thinks he looks like a slug when he eats so now that’s all I can think about when I see him eating.

He is very stylish though. Well spoken. And fair. I love Masterchef. I thought I was going to miss Big Brother.

Did I just type that too? I need a filter!

But Masterchef really has filled the void, and more. I don’t want it to end. x

  55. NJ says:

Go Justine! I just love her. She’s such a cool cucumber.

    Thumb up 0

  56. squeak says:

when they first started advertising masterchef, i remember finding matt terrifying – he had a very ‘i’m going to eat your soul’ look…
i love masterchef. whenever my boyfriend and i eat out, we find ourselves playing judge and critiquing the food and service…

    Thumb up 0

  57. NJ says:

We LOVE Masterchef – my 2 year old especially. It’s a great opportunity to educate her about different food and how it’s cooked. We talk about what all the contestants are doing and the food they use. I mean, when am I EVER going to steam a rainbow fish??

I have always loved cooking shows. ‘The Cook and the Chef’ I rate highly. Very inspiring!

    Thumb up 0

  58. Bronwyn says:

    LOVE Masterchef!!!!!

What amuses me about Matt is his facial expressions. Just when you think he is about to make a comment about how terrible somthing tastes he surprises you by saying how fantastic it is!! Talk about a poker face

    Thumb up 0

  59. Natalie says:

My husband hates him…. he calls him a ‘fat 5hit’. I am so sorry to say that…. but I love him. I think he is one of the best dressed / stylish men to come on TV in such a long time. He has his own indiviual look and his passion for food juts makes him soooooo good. I declare war on my hubby!!!

    Thumb up 0

  60. Indi says:

PS who do you think will win…?
Until last night I was thinking Chris or Justine

    Thumb up 0

  61. Indi says:

It’s a family experience in our house too. We are utterly addicted. My 4 year old and I have “attempted” some of the dishes and he even strikes up conversations with people in the supermarkets about ingredients – it’s too funny.

As for Matt, I agree there is something compelling about him. He is so passionate about food that its almost contagious through the box. He knows his stuff without being arrogant and rude. The cravats just add to his slightly off centre appeal.

    Bring on 730!
