Sarah Jessica Parker is having twin daughters. But she’s not pregnant.

Flythru Bag

News has broken today that Sarah Jessica Parker and her husband are having twin girls in a couple of months via a surrogate.

According to Radar online:

Sarah Jessica Parker wants the world to know she’s having twin daughters via a surrogate mother. She released a statement today because she’s so happy that she simply couldn’t hold back from sharing the news!

Well, not quite. The reason Parker released a statement was because Star magazine is
breaking the story with exclusive details in the issue that goes on
sale Wednesday. When Star called Parker’s representatives for comments,
the “Sex & The City” star decided she’d rather announce it than let
Star have its scoop.

Parker’s reps released this statement: “Sarah Jessica Parker
and Matthew Broderick are happily anticipating the birth of their twin
daughters later this summer with the generous help of a surrogate. The
entire family is overjoyed.”

But RadarOnline.com has learned exclusively that the new issue of
Star magazine will report the surrogate mother is a 26-year-old
divorcee and is nearly seven months pregnant.Star says the woman was paid “tens of thousands” of dollars to carry
the babies and they will be born in Parker’s home state of Ohio.

The couple, who have a son James, 6, decided to take the surrogate
route last year, just weeks after Star broke the news that Matthew had
been cheating with a 21-years-younger redheaded youth counselor. More details are available in Star’s new issue. Who knows? Maybe they even have a photo of the surrogate mother…

Please don't anyone be revoltingly cynical and suggest that she's doing
it because she's too busy or doesn't want to get fat. The woman is 44.
Her husband is 47. She has been very careful with her quotes in the
million interviews she has done when questioned about having kids
(before her son was born 6 years ago) and ever since. I know several
women in their early forties who are struggling with infertility and
looking at the prospect of using a surrogate.

It's not exactly an easy option or something you do without a whole lot of agonising, thought and distress about your infertility. There was a brilliant story in Madison last month where a woman wrote about her experience with a surrogate carrying her son after she had tried many times to get pregnant but had had many miscarriages and was told it was the only way she could have a baby. I can't for a moment imagine carrying a baby – even if the eggs weren't mine – and then giving it away. What an extraordinary thing to do. I just hope SJP's situation doesn't now turn into a circus although it's hard to imagine that not happening. Imagine the photo agency price for the first picture of the pregnant surrogate…..

I have a friend who has used a surrogate on two occasions, (in California) as she had lots of complications with being pregnant. It is a truly amazing process and it’s been wonderful for her family. They have the utmost respect for their surrogate and now have the family they always dreamed of having. It’s very personal and something that is not for everyone, but works for many, despite being a very complex arrangements. If all parties are happy and compensation is appropriate, it’s all good in my opinion.

Amy Sheaves how rude of you to make such a statement.

Her son is 6 and she has been quoted previously about struggling with being able to provide a sibling for their son and people assuming that they were just too selfish to have another.

Obviously this option is what is going to work for them.

I feel a bit torn. Wonderful to extent their family and give James siblings, but at 45 and 47?? Are they not thinking about how old they will be in 20+ years time?!!

It never crossed my mind while reading this that she’d choose surrogacy because of her career!! Especially seeing as she already has a son, seems a great mum and a rather normalish person. Poor them having all that speculation and rumours when they should be celebrating.

All of these twins though is obviously celebs’ way of one-upping everyone else again: one child is your belly is just so not Hollywood…

How are we to know that she hasn’t been trying to have another child? Just because there is a large gap between when two siblings are born does not mean the parents have been ‘too busy’. It doesn’t always happen that easily!

Thank you for taking such a beautiful stand on this.

Congratulations to them. I know the entertainment world is an awful circus and it’s all about to go crazy.

I wish them all the best. I hope they have two lovely, healthy babies. x

Congrats to them both! just goes to show how much you shouldnt read the gossip mags about the rumours of their rocky relationship.

Stepford dreams – just letting you know in Australia surrogacy has to be done out of the kindness of your heart not for money. [but thats about all i know].

It’s not uncommon for women to conceive in their late 30s and not manage to have another successful pregnancy after that. And who knows what problems she may have encountered prior to having James at 38 – there may be an even more complex history than we are aware of. Either way, this is yet another lesson to us that technology may advance, but mother nature isn’t changing the rules. Too many of my work colleagues are stuggling in their late 30s to conceive at all for the first time – it is heartbreaking to witness.

  11. Good luck to them! I don’t think she is the first celebrity to have a baby via a surrogate aka gestational carrier. Wasn’t Dennis Quaid’s set of fraternal twins born via a “gestational carrier” also? I think it is a lot more common in the US.

It strikes a chord with me personally because I have a dear friend who lost her womb to cancer but managed to have eggs fertilsed and embryos stored before the hysterectomy.

She would one day like to become a mother to her and husband’s biological children and the only way for that to happen is by using a surrogate.

The laws in Australia are quite different and it is very daunting to navigate them.

Hey Amy – probably not a case of too busy. Secondary Infertility is a well recognised problem. Many women have the first with relative ease (and we don’t know if SJP did) and then go on to struggle.

I don’t particular like SJP. I find her irritating and was never a SATC fan, but good for her. If only surrogacy wasn’t something that was really only available to those who can afford it…..

  15. Julia-Maree says:

I didn’t realise SJP and Matthew Broderick were in their mid to late 40’s …. well, good for them on this exciting news. Can’t imagine having a baby and giving it up but each to their own. Yes, the media will have a field day with this.

  16. GeorgiaSweet says:

Does that make SJP doubly smug, or is it the surrogate who has that privilege?

  17. Tara says:

All the best to Sarah and Matthew. I hope their new little family brings them happiness.

I can totally understand the desire to go for surrogacy rather than adoption. There must be such a burning desire to have a baby that is your biological child. I think I would prefer surrogacy to adoption if I ever couldn’t have children.

  18. TheRealSydney says:

Wow – bet that surrogate is getting paid a fortune !!

Interesting that there is an implication that the surrogate is MB’s ‘rumoured’ lover – it would explain alot – I bet they spent alot of time with this woman before making a decision – and of course SJP couldn’t come out and negate the cheating rumours due to the secrecy of the surrogacy – maybe it means that Ferris isn’t a cheating hound after all.

Good Luck to them both – what lucky little girls to have them as parents.

  19. Ali says:

I think this is amazing news!! Congratulations to them both. What stylish little girls they’ll be. After just recently finding out I’m pregnant with my first baby I think it’s amazing that SJP is able to have twin girls. The fact that it’s via surrogate doesn’t take away from the joy of it at all.

  20. Taryn says:

    I think it’s great news.
Firstly, I am always astounded by women who choose to be a surrogate for another couple. It is a selfless act. I know I couldn’t do it.

I would think at age 44 it would be difficult to fall pregnant naturally, but if I’m totally honest I would rather people adopt than use a surrogate. There are many, many babies and children out there who need a loving home.
    Each to their own.

  22. Amy Sheaves says:

Sorry Mia, but I can’t help being ‘revoltingly cynical’. Did SJP have trouble conceiving James Wilkie? If not, then THIS IS a case of ‘too busy’. I can’t believe for one minute that she didn’t think about the older she got, the harder it was going to be to conceive.

I love the quote that someone gave the other day here for women ‘we CAN have it all, but not always at the same time’.

  23. Her son is six so I’m going to go out on a limb here and suggest that they probably tried to get pregnant the natural way for a good few years before resorting to surrogacy.

Having struggled with infertility myself for a few years before finally having success, I know that not being able to have your own child is one of the worst things you can ever experience. If IVF is not the answer, at least surrogacy can offer couples the chance to have their own biological child.

I wish their little family all the happiness in the world.

  26. Cheryl says:

My first thought was that they’ve had to go to surrogacy to get a sibling for James, before I read that comment by Mia. It’s a little sad that many more people in the place where I first read this information immediately went to “oh she doesn’t want to get fat”. I think she dreamed of getting fat again and was really disappointed when she didn’t.

Did anyone else read the article as the Star magazine implying that the surrogate mother is actually Matthew’s rumoured lover?
