The Global Good Foundation

Did you know that two women and one man are killed every fortnight in Australia due to domestic violence? Did you know that one in five people have been directly impacted by domestic violence, one in three people know someone who has, and a staggering 80 per cent of those affected as children will repeat the cycle later in life?

The Global Good Foundation (GGF) is a charity setting a global standard on the rehabilitation methods used for those affected by domestic violence, through provision of education, training and empowerment programs.

GGF’s aim is to assist with stopping the cycle of violence. They do this through primary and secondary prevention programs such as the Minute of Noise campaign and our GGF Kids’ Camps.

Domestic violence can be a scary topic, especially for kids – imagine if it could be dealt with it in a way that is fun, safe and extremely noisy – something with the potential to make lifelong change! That’s what The Global Good Foundation Minute of Noise campaign is doing across the world. It’s a global education campaign aimed at letting children and young people know it’s OK to speak out about domestic violence.

GGF goes into schools, companies and organisations and speaks to groups of participants about domestic violence, educating them on the topic in an age-appropriate way. They then encourage them to make as much noise as they can for one minute, taking a united stand and showing fellow participants that it is OK to speak out. These events approach what is often a controversial and delicate topic in a way that is safe, uplifting and fun, rather than scary or upsetting.

The video gives an insight into how much fun this campaign is:

By running the Minute of Noise campaign, we are putting a topic that is often not spoken about into the public arena, encouraging people to talk about it and let others know domestic violence is not accepted.

The campaign is supported by a number of celebrities, including Vanessa Amorosi, Bobby Andonov (Australia’s Got Talent), Julie Goodwin (Masterchef), Kaiya Jones (Neighbours) and Paulini (Australian Idol).

All Minute of Noise events are videoed and added to the GGF YouTube and social media pages, increasing awareness of the campaign and promoting it in a forum that is familiar and commonly used by the main target age group.

Through fun, education and empowerment, the Global Good Kids Camps will help children that have been impacted by domestic violence, and provide ongoing support to assist them in breaking the cycle in the future.

The camps provide a place where kids can go to feel safe, where they can learn, have fun and improve their self-confidence, achieving things they never thought possible.

The camps run over a four-night, five-day period and are targeted at children aged 8-12 years old who have been affected by domestic violence. The program teaches the fundamentals of good citizenship, moral behaviour, respect for self and others, and also sends each child home with a sense of self esteem and pride in themselves. They are challenged through a variety of activities, enabling them to do things they never thought they could do, and allowing them to develop effective leadership and communication skills.

By instilling these values and skills at a young age and providing long-term ongoing support and encouragement to the children attending the camp, we are providing them with the tools they require to break the domestic violence cycle later in life, and go on to achieve their goals.
