That’s the question everyone’s asking after details of an interview 33-year-old Holmes did with Elle magazine (about six weeks before the divorce announcement) emerged.
The interview hints to a “new phase” in Holmes’ life and career.
In response to a question about being “Mrs Cruise,” Katie said: “He has been Tom Cruise for 30 years – I know who I am and where I am and where I want to go, so I want to focus on that.”
On being in her 30s, she said: “I definitely feel much more comfortable in my own skin. I feel sexier. I think in my twenties, it’s like you’re trying too hard to figure everything out, I’m starting to come into my own.”
“It’s like a new phase,” she said.

Whether she planned to leave and for how long, it couldn't have been easy. God only knows how much I struggled with the decision to leave my own marriage, and eventhough I wasn't married to Tom Cruise, the man I was married to had similar characteristics to him (based on what I've been reading of what's come out about Tom in the papers/mags/internet so far eg: controlling, very intense, etc). Whether he really is like that in real life, guess we'll never know. All I can say is that it takes a lot of guts to walk away from a marriage when its you alone, so I can't even imagine how difficult it must be if there are children involved. The guilt, the hurt and the disappointment alone is enough to wear you down in the days to come, even if it is relief you feel in the beginning. There are a few parallels between my own story and Katie's story (eg; both falling head over heels in love with older, charismatic men and everything happening so fast etc) and as much as I feel uneasy and having the memory of my own divorce resurface as I watch the drama unfold, I can't help but be strangely drawn to this story. I dont know why I commented but just felt that I had to say that no matter what people think, walking away from a marriage and breaking up a family is never easy, doesn't matter who you are or what age you are.
