It's a surprise baby for the Sunrise family.

Sunrise host Monique Wright was surprised but thrilled to discover she is pregnant with her third child.

At 41 years old, Monique Wright thought she was finished with having children. Already a mother to Pascale, two, and Etienne, five, the popular TV host assumed her days of procreation were over.

Perhaps she was breathing a sigh of relief imagining that, as her kids get older, she’ll spend more time in a role that’s positively relaxing in comparison to looking after a newborn: presenter of Weekend Sunrise and The Daily Edition.

Then came the surprising news that she’s four months pregnant with her third child.

“It was the last thing that we expected,” Wright told Confidential. “It was completely unplanned but we are absolutely thrilled.”

As a woman who didn’t start her family until her late thirties, Wright says her news should give hope to other women trying to conceive later in life.

“I do hope that this serves as a bit of hope that it can happen.

“It can happen by chance. It is not all doom and gloom. Even though, yes, we understand the statistics, they’re not everything. If anyone is trying, maybe they can take some hope from this.”

A 65-year-old mother has just revealed she is pregnant with quads.

Wright is very clear that she plans to work through this pregnancy, and compliments Channel 7 on their attitude to maternity leave.

“Work has been really supportive,” she said. “I’ve been through two pregnancies while being on air and I’ve come back and each time been promoted.

Wright’s Sunrise colleague Sam Armytage has spoken today about her plans to balance a working life with kids.

“I think if you’re lucky enough to have children and if you have them a bit later in life, don’t just leave them with the Nanny,” Sam told News.com.au.

Sunrise host Samantha Armytage says balancing work and kids can be a struggle for some.

“I see a lot of my contemporaries get very stressed behind the scenes because they either feel guilty that they are letting work down, or letting the kids down.”

“I think everybody needs to work out what they are comfortable with, and go with that.”

Luckily for Wright, with two kids and a whole lot of success under her belt, it seems unlikely she’ll be letting anyone down – even with a new baby on the way.

Sunrise host thinks she’s “the only woman who’s not angry at men”.
