BY ZOE FOSTER
After the thrilling insight into my toiletries bag on Tuesday, I bet you found it hard to sleep knowing there was ANOTHER packing video coming your way today, didn’t you!!!
Hopefully this one is a bit more exciting – it should be, it’s about MAKEUP!!! In fact, I believe I have formed quite the perfect Makeup Travel Kit, if I do say (write) so myself.
It’s brimming (literally, I can only just zip it up) with practical, versatile prodz and tools to grant a dame a great very many looks while she tours the world with nothing but her smile…. and camera, laptop, iPad, iPhone, iPod, two suitcases and backpack. (Yes. I am taking a school-kid backpack. OH, COME ON. Have you tried running for a flight with a tote bag filled with heavy laptop and magazines and snacks and water? It sucks warheads. For once I am sacrificing vanity for practicality and chiropractic bills.)
Enjoy… and who knows! Maybe next week I will actually publish a post that isn’t about what I did or am doing or have done today.
In case you can’t watch the video, here is what Zoe has in her make-up bag:
Estee Lauder DayWear Sheer Tint Release
MAC Face And Body Foundation
Napleon Pro Palette Concealer
Bobbi Brown Bronzing Powder
Benefit chachatint
Covergirl Perfect Point Plus Eyeliner
Gorgeous Cosmetics Eye Pencil
Clinique Lash Power Mascara
Bourjois Volume Glamour Max Definition Mascara
Covergirl Intense Shadow Blast Eyeshadow
Bobbi Brown Ultra Nude Eye Palette
Utowa eyelash curler
Napoleon eyebrow pencil
YSL nude gloss
Chanel pink lipstick
Revlon Colour Burst lipstick
Lanolips in mulberry

Acne breakouts is really a issue typical throughout puberty as well as within youngsters. Nonetheless, it might impact the small types as well as older individuals too. It’s a issue such as the public without having taking care of women or men. You will find a number of phases whenever acne breakouts can make by itself noticeable as well as difficult for that troubled individual.

am I alone in thinking these won’t fit in that little bag???

Would LOVE to get the bobbi brown nude palette but can’t justify the cost, even from ebay
Does anyone have any suggestions for a cheaper option that is just as versatile? Would love something that includes a good brush as well if possible (but can do without)

Has the Estee Lauder Tinted Moistiriser been discontinued Zoe? It is not even on the official Estee Lauder website. I bought Hamilton tinted moisturiser yeserday and it is CRAP! A horrible colour and texture and I am desperate to get a great one before I head to Phuket for 3 weeks!
Do you please recommend any other tinted moisturisers Zoe?
loading...
I’m looking too! My beloved Clarins tinted moisturiser has been discontinued & I’ve tried various terrible ones that are all TOO DARK!. The BB cream everybody raved about here from Garnier is a good light color but it does tend to settle in lines. But for $7 (on sale at priceline) I must say its fantastic for the price. And great for everyday at home. The sunscreen based ones I’ve found no good at all. I’m planning on getting a laura mercier one which has had good feedback, if I can ever detach the rugrats long enough to go look

Laura Mercier tinted moisturiser is fabulous. Expensive, but really great.

Hi Rene!
.
May I recommend Hourglass tinted moisturiser?? It’s available at Mecca and is absolutely amazinggg… Plus it’s got spf 15 and it’s water resistant. I literally GLOW when I wear it.
Enjoy your holiday

Thank you! I will check it out

Clinique moisture surge is quite good,it has an SPF of 15 as well, double handy!

For those looking, the Bobbi Brown nude palette is $45 on Sephora. Still in stock. Considering it’s at least $50 cheaper than Australia and isn’t even available at BB online.au any longer, it may be worth it for those of you who have other things you’d like to buy from Sephora too. Once you factor in the free samples and the massive price savings, the cost of using a forwarding company is still worth it. (Mind you I didn’t take my own advice today on some Revlon and Cover Girl stuff which sucks as I’m from N. America and know how dirty cheap it is there but I’ll be doing it for the higher end brands).
Oh and the Revlon Lip Butters are all over ebay for about $9 US + $3 shipping. I bought two today at Priceline at $21.95 because they were having a buy 2 get one free deal on Revlon and I wanted a cream shadow palette but the colour I wanted wasn’t there so I’ve ordered that from ebay. To be honest though, I’m not sure how much I really like them yet. Will have to test them for a few more days to see for sure.

my brother has a forwarding service from the states if anyone is interested in taking up that option.

Id love some more info, are you allowed to post details or a link or something? Thanks!

he’s in Australia until next Tuesday when he heads back to the states, but has said for anyone interested to email him at jono83@tpg.com.au – his name is Jono

Zoe I love these posts! I don’t consider myself a big “make-up person” whatever that means. I don’t wear make-up during the week usually and special occasions is foundation and mascara BUT I want to do more! You are inspiring me and also providing the valuable advice about how to use things! I think the reason I became a non-make up person is because I was pretty hopeless at applying it one too many times! Beauty can be overwhelming (as you know because you are always simplifying it for us) and I really love how I am slowly taking away and using your advice! It’s in small steps. I use rosehip oil now, I don’t always put black eyeliner on my lower eyeliner and I apply a nice face sunscreen! Next is the benefit eye bright pencil ordered online I think! Perhaps a BB cream too! Thank you for all your easy to follow tips presented in such a fun way!!
loading...
Amazing list Zoe, I am craving every single thing now! Are you doing any appearances/book signings in London? I have been living here for a year and I am so keen to have Amazing Face in my hot little hands! Let me know and I am THERE.
loading...
This is an excellent list!
loading...
Went on a makeup and book buying online binge this morning.. Managed to get the YSL nude lip gloss (25 bucks from Strawberry net!), Benefit Eye Bright pencil, O&M sea salt spray (hello beachy Greece look) and OPI Big Apple Red. All Zoe inspired! Searched high and low for the Bobbi Brown palette but other than spending 100 bucks on it at Myer, it’s all sold out online! ARGH!
loading...
Oh and anybody looking for Lanolips Mulberry, I just bought some from http://www.facialcompany.com.au/
loading...
Zoe, what Lipstick are you wearing in this video, it is such a lovely colour and texture!
loading...
Thanks Zoe, I am off to Europe for a month so great timing with this video! I will definitely try to check out a couple of the products to take with me.
loading...
Awww Zoe! You are the coolest! Please review things we don’t have in Australia such as Urban Decay and Sephora shop! Have a great time xx

Zoe, I am going to Hawaii in three weeks for ten days and am already nervous about which lipsticks to pack.. I am bright lippie obsessed!
This article couldn’t really have come at a better time.
THANK YOU so much for introducing me to liquid bronzer too.. I was skeptical when reading you used it and not powder often, but finally bought some on Monday… and wow – what a difference, no fresh and bronzey, much better then my army of powder bronzers!
loading...
Hi Zoe,
Just wondering the brand of your powder brush?
Thanks!
loading...
Dear MM,
I’m normally steadfast against moderation except in extreme circumstances, but for the love of Zoe, protect The Talent from people who can’t manage to be constructive.
No one likes to go to a workplace where they are bullied, so Zoe could easily take these articles somewhere else. Did readers from PRIMPED ever question the value of a Zoe article? Probably not.
Dear MM readers,
Enough of the snarky comments. Don’t you remember how we nearly lost our videos last time because of the criticism of the image quality? Let’s not see it happen again.
If you’re not interested in beauty related articles, look over to your cat and roll your eyes before clicking on the next article.
If you don’t like this particular article, then suggest an article for next week.
For example: Hi Zoe, have you thought about doing an article on [insert beauty related topic]. OR, Hi Zoe, [insert beauty related question].
Of course, if Miss Zoe doesn’t so much mind the snarky “feedback”, then well…..carry on, chaps.
loading...
Well said!!
loading...
I agree!
loading...
I don’t normally post here but I feel that I need to today.
I appreciate that many people don’t have the budget or inclination to spend heaps on beauty products or european holidays but there are many of us who do! As someone who in the past has spent a lot of time of fashion/beauty forums being the one who can’t afford the weekly MAC fix, I actually feel that Zoe has brought in down in terms of budget. Everything she talks about is completely accessible in chain stores. Sure Bobbi Brown ain’t the cheapest but it’s pretty middle of the range and it’s excellent quality. And nobody is saying you need to buy it.. Use the idea and go hunting for cheaper palettes!
In the meantime these posts from Zoe couldn’t have come at a better time for me! I fly out to Athens next week to traipse around Europe on a budget for a month. And I intend to look great whilst I do it!
and I probably would read about what zoe eats on her toast..

Zoe, i treated myself to a little of the Sodashi nourashing repair cream, which just came in the post today, its absolutely lovely but really reminds me of Tinderbox night cream, dont you think? (only sodashi has an extra hundred to the price tag!)
loading...
Hi Zoe – love your stuff. But I can’t afford a weekend away in Melbourne and it bothers me that you have a blaze attitude to “doing Europe over the summer”. Having said that……..still love your stuff – just saw The Lucky One and the female lead wore the most amazing lipstick in every single shot of the movie – do you know (or can you trace) what the lipstick brand and shade is? If you can I will really thing you can perform miracles!!!!
loading...
I went to Europe a couple of years ago when I was working in a pretty crappy job. I saved my arse off! It was totally worth it. And I’m pretty sure Zoe will be working while she’s away so it won’t all be cocktails and gelato (but I hope so — we can live vicariously through her during the ick of Winter!)
This probably isn’t very helpful… but sometimes the Pixi Woo sisters do great tutorials copying “looks” from celebrities and films: http://pixiwoo.blogspot.com.au/. Maybe keep an eye on them. I just googled The Lucky One, and apparently, they have teamed up with e.l.f. to release a themed makeup collection around the movie. Intrigue!
loading...
It bothers me that you think that Zoe should play her life and life experiences down because it makes you feel uncomfortable. How about getting inspired by her and using her accomplishments and achievements for something positive rather than implying that she should make herself smaller in order to relate to you? That for a better word is “blaze”
loading...
Hi Sefina.
You read way too much into my little comment. Check out the meaning of blase (my spelling error of blaze). I too have travelled extensively and encourage anyone to do the same – the fact that I mentioned a trip to Melbourne was a personal comment re myself – not against the gorgeous Zoe. By the way I would pretty much assume Zoe does not need, or even want, people to leap to her defense.
May she enjoy many, many trips OS and bring us many, many more beauty tips. PS Why would you think I am not inspired? Where is the implication that she should make herself smaller? Why did you use the mis-spelled word blaze? Please don’t assume to know what I think. Cheers!
loading...
really? many of us are going to europe for the summer?
do women really spend this much time and energy on makeup?
I’m actually really curious… the only time i was into makeup was when i was a teenager…. these days i don’t use anything… i can’t imagine going on a holiday and taking that much… stuff… or spending time doing makeup…
loading...
well no, i’m sure not that the majority of us are going however there is quite a heap of Aussie’s (in their 20′s & 30′s especially) who do hit europe this time of year. And also, remember that zoe is a beauty writer/editor/reporter/legend(!) so she’s not going to exactly do a post on “only bring/wear sunscreen and a smile!”, sure not all of us will wear/need all of that but its so nice to hear what a pro in the field does (and believe me she is nowhere over the top compared to girls i know heading o/s.
loading...
Yep – I’m going (and it’s my first ever real holiday so hardly unreasonable) and I appreciate Zoe’s posts this week. I don’t plan to use all of those products but it gives me an idea of what might be useful if I feel like wearing makeup and some ideas for when I next need to stock up.
loading...
Going by the replies to Zoe’s post the other day about her toiletries bag contents, yes, there are many readers heading overseas around this time of year. Including myself, next weekend.
And Zoe is a beauty editor. So you must know that her posts are going be based on, you know, beauty products.
So why the surprise?
loading...
Yep! I am heading off in 6 weeks for a month across Europe. I am not loaded, I am a casual teacher. I save for what I want, which right now is travel. I dont judge what others spend their time and money on so I think your comments are rather just petty.
loading...
Yes! I’m heading over in six weeks and Zoe just helped me halve my beauty bag and possibly save me money in extra luggage fees. Just I just need her to tell me how to halve my wardorbe…(hint hint!)
Thanks Zoe! X
loading...
No, I’m not going overseas, but I do spend that much (and more) time and effort on makeup. From your comment it sounds like you are either feeling that what Zoe has shared has been overly prescriptive, or you are judging her for her affinity with makeup. If it was the former, I honestly don’t get the sense that Zoe intended anyone to feel this video was more than just “here is what I’m taking and why, in case you would like to know or may find it useful”. If it was the latter, I don’t really feel it’s fair to judge someone for what they spend their time and money on.
A lot of people get really judgy about girls (like Zoe) who are into makeup, and deem them shallow and/or riddled with self esteem issues. For me it’s a hobby that I find incredibly fun and interesting. I wear not much more makeup day to day than the average woman, and quite often go about my day with absolutely nothing on my face. I also don’t judge other people for how they wear their makeup (or the fact that they wear nothing), nor do I expect them to have the same love for or dedication to makeup that I do.
I recently started a blog that centers around beauty products and have found an amazing community of like-minded folk who seem to get that my love for makeup and beauty related stuff isn’t all about looking good, but more because I really have fun playing with it all! Blogging, and in particular doing reviews on beauty stuff also means that others who don’t share our compulsive need to try as many products as humanly possible get information about how good products are without outlaying money. This is kinda what Zoe’s videos are about too.
loading...
What is your blog?
loading...
I’m not sure of the self-promotion rules here on Mamamia, so I hope I’m not breaking any by sharing it here.
You can find it at http://the-glow-down.blogspot.com
loading...
Yep, I am
loading...
I’m not going to Europe either (or anywhere else right now) but part of why I love this post is the voyeurism of seeing what Zoe actually uses (because with all her years of experience, she knows a thing or two).
And part of it is taking bits of info for my next trip to.,….wherever! Even if I’m just going away for the weekend!
loading...
I hauled my arse over to Europe last winter and I wore a full face of makeup every day. It’s practically the only time I’m taking daily photos of myself with the plan to show everyone when I get home so there was no way I was going to roll out of my hostel without looking my best. This article is a godsend.
loading...
I’ll get to the Holiday Snaps bit soon… it’s SO MUCH FUN dressing up for them.
loading...
What brushes are you taking along?
Some have a heavy price tag, how long do they last you?
loading...
Anonymous, perhaps you should try and use a bit of makeup. You may actually feel better about yourself! Makeup is fun, so lighten up! If you’re not interested then what are you doing here making comments? I happen to love makeup and am always interested in hearing about Zoe’s favourite products. Love her writing too, she always makes me laugh.
loading...
Yeah, I’m going to Europe for the summer.
Well I would, except I just live here.
And yes, yes we love our make-up here.
Do stay home with your hempsack and lentils x
loading...
All my friends will be in Europe this winter
Makes me incredibly jealous. I LOVE these posts but, because it gives me ideas for when I travel (even if I’m just going interstate) and it allows me to live vicariously through others hahaha.
loading...
Hi Zoe, what’s your colour of choice when it comes to the Covergirl Intense Shadow Blast?
Thanks
Nat!
loading...
If you watch the video, it’s the beigey one.
loading...
Happy travels Zoe,
A great travel kit is so important. I also have the nude BB palette and it’s so handy:)
loading...
Zoe rocks!!!
Happy Holiday!
loading...
Is anyone else missing the makeup tutorials? Love Zoe!

Hi Zoe
I have just purchased rosehip oil and want to thank you for your suggestion its AMAZING.
I’m hoping someone can help me with a trip i will be embarking on soon to the snow. Do you have some suggestions for protecting my skin when skiing. I end up with super red, windburn, sore dry skin. PLEASE HELP!!
loading...
Lanolin! Sounds strange I know, but you can buy it in a big tube thing, and it is sooo good for skiing lips!
loading...
Whatever you choose, make sure it is SPF 30+. You sound like a seasoned skiier/boarder so you’ll already know about the burn your lips and face can suffer.
Blistex do some great SPF balms. I always have the one in the little flat disc container in my ski jacket!
loading...
Actually i was going to post about SPF 30. As a big time skier who spends A LOT of time at the snow last year my skin was not impressed. Dry cracked and a right mess!
I decided SPF30 Moisturiser is the go problem was apparently woman don’t need it in a moisturiser! Well so the beauty products tell us )the mid priced anyway…
So i now use Natio Mens 30 SPF moisturiser and I love it!
And Benefit Tinted Moisturiser worked well in the Nth Hem this past season.
loading...
Another ripping video. Very good and informative! My friend Amy and I think we should all catch up in Greece. Just because we’ve decided you’re our friend and because three girls are far more approachable than two…at least, that’s our excuse…
loading...
I havent watched this video yet so i dont know if you have covered this but Zoe, i hope you can help me out with transclusent/setting powders… im looking for a trusty long wearing powder, that wont give me too much of a matte look, wont make me too oily and wont reflect camera flashes. And am i better off using pressed or loose? Is there a right way to apply? Thanks, love your work x
loading...
I thought long and hard about it before deciding to write this comment. I certainly do not intend it as an insult to Zoe or any member of the MM team and extended family.
But…geez ! You must be starting to run out of angles to feature Zoe’s talents. Over recent weeks we’ve had articles about what Zoe buys, what brands of makeup Zoe uses, what Zoe does before she hits the red carpet etc.
About the only thing that we haven’t been told is what type of bread Zoe toasts and whether she prefers vegemite over jam. I realise that Zoe is a valued member of the team and is extremely popular a number of readers. As I say, I just find that her activities and purchases can only be spread so far.
Already I’m hearing the cries of “well don’t read it if you don’t like it”. O f course, that would be the easiest road to walk. But I’ve never chosen the easiest pathway. Again I mean no offence to anyone. I’m just giving an opinion, and that opinion might be different to yours. I enjoy Zoe’s articles, I just enjoyed them much more when they weren’t presented as often. They were something that I found special. Sometimes less leaves you wanting more, thus you truly appreciate it when more is forthcoming.
loading...
I would be inconsolable if I didn’t get my Zoe fix twice a week.
loading...
Me too!!! I look forward to Tuesdays and Fridays so I can get new Zoe tips! LOVE everything she writes.
loading...
I assume people see Zoe as I would my favourite author. If I saw a list of books he or she liked to read most, I would crawl over hill and mountain to get to them. Zoe’s expertise is beauty … so when she talks about what *she* uses, then it’s really popular. And I can’t say I’m surprised. It’s OK Bradley, something tells me you’re not the target audience of Zoe’s writing
loading...
seriously bradley just be VERY grateful that this is the only gripe you have today. happy days!
loading...
It’s actually pretty relevant. She’s a beauty expert, the products she uses on herself are guaranteed to be good quality and work well. It’s like a mechanic who has spent his entire career being able to use any tools he likes for free, then saying ‘these are the tools I use’. I personally loove Zoe’s articles and I think there should be more, not less!
I imagine reading them would be fairly irrelevant for people who don’t wear make-up but, much like me reading an article about the tools a mechanic uses.
loading...
Bradley – like you said “I realise that Zoe is a valued member of the team and is extremely popular a number of readers.”
Ummm that’s why. And Zoe Rocks!
loading...
Bradley – there have been comments in other posts asking Zoe to post about what products she plans to take to and use in Europe?!
I for one found them informative and useful since I’m also heading over there – Thanks Zo! – but will probably pick and choose what to spend and save on because I don’t want to blow heaps of money before I go.
loading...
Zoe responds to questions from readers obviously not relevant to you Bradley as a male but, those that ask for these appreciate them!!!
loading...
I think the beauty ed section of the website may just have a narrower target audience than that of the website as a whole.
And a portion of that audience (may or may not include myself) would happily watch a video of Zoe trimming her toenails.
loading...
now wouldnt it just be absurd for zoe to write about toast and such, as she is not a food editor. she is a professional beauty junkie and that is precicely the reason we all read her posts. i trust her posts even more because of the fact that she tells her tales from experience and not just sprouking which ever product may pays more.
loading...
Plus, she likes porridge (see author info)
loading...
Bradley, I’m going to be travelling soon (OK, it’s not the London or the Greek Islands, but it’s long enough to have to plan properly in places where I’m not likely to be able to replace things), I’m looking at my bathroom cupboard’s 4 shelves and 3 drawers of stuff, and wondering what on earth I really NEED to take in my one toiletries bag. Even though my needs are slightly different to Zoe’s, she’s given me somewhere to start and for that I thank her down to my Samoan Sand toenails.
In the same way that if someone told a computer geek that they could only have 1GB of … whatever they do … for the next 4 months, or a builder needed to get his tool box down to 1kg, they’d probably welcome advice from someone who could see the bits from the bytes (or whatever). I’d be happy for Todd the Toolman to write a post for Mamamia about which tacks to take, but I’m not interested in reading it. But it wouldn’t worry me if you did. Horses for courses.
loading...
Bradley, Zoe prefers crumpets with honey in case you were wondering.
loading...
Bradley,
Two words: women’s website.
You are more than welcome to hang out and comment but when we’re planning content, we’re not aiming for you.
loading...
but could you? I mean, I love these posts & think Zoe would have some great advice/pointers for what my boyfriend could/should use on his face since he usually steals mine when he’s over…
loading...
I just don’t understand what Zoe would write about if she didn’t write about the products she uses and the process she goes through…
loading...
i’m beginning to think that, in a possible-conspiracy-theory-but-possibly-just-cray-cray way, that ‘mulberry’ is a little white lie lanolips made up to torture me. as far as i can tell, it has been sent to every beauty editor in Australia, but has never actually hit the shops for us bourgeois. it does not exist in priceline-world i tell you!!
ahem.
but thanks Zoe, awesome as always. have an amazing trip!
loading...
I know what you mean I searched every store as well so I bought mine online at addicted2lipbalm.com.au
loading...
It isn’t a conspiracy theory!! I also bought mine on addicted2lipbalm but it was a limited edition, I think there were only 5000 made worldwide. Try and get your hands on it though, it’s amaze!
loading...
There are so many lovely berry-wine-plum glosses around at the moment… keep hunting, Nikki, for the love of mulberries, keep hunting!
loading...
After Zoes last post about the new lip balms with colour I bought the Revlon ColourBurst Lip Butter and it is amazing! Thanks
loading...
I got one at David Jones, maybe try there
loading...
Haha, I know the feeling. I got one mulberry gloss from Adore Beauty and one was in a gift pack from Priceline and it also had Lemonaid in it.
I’m sure you will find the right berry colour soon:)
loading...
I found it in a Priceline Christmas gift pack. I don’t believe it’s available anymore.
loading...
There is a space in the lanolips stand for it at my local Priceline and I check every single time I’m there but it is yet to inhabit said space.
Is there another brand that does a similar colour that you could suggest, Zoe? I feel sad that my lips are missing out!
loading...
I’ve had a look in every local shop too (regional) and I couldn’t find it anywhere…so I gave up looking! Would love to find one though without having to pay additional postage costs..maybe next time I’m in Sydney..
loading...
I got it at my local malouf chemist
It was the last one but.
loading...
I got mine at Myer. It was in a gift set for lanolips & included their 101 and the hand cream. It is all devine, but it took me a good two weeks of searching to find. I swear I went through every Priceline etc in the city looking for it!!!
loading...
am glad I stocked up when I could on this one!!
A good alternative is the Clinique Black Honey Almost Lipstick – just not quite as berry-ish I find.
loading...
black honey was what I ended up going for… a little more exxy, but a good (long-lasting) colour : )
but I feel very validated peeps, thanks for all your sympathy!
loading...
I got mine at Myer, in a gift pack with some handcream.
loading...
Hey Zoe or MM peeps,
I am having so much trouble with fly aways, I can’t seem to keep them down. I have tried everything, but it makes my hair sticky/oily/etc. What is a great product for smooth hair?
loading...
Hey Girly,
I used to have the same problem but John Freida’s flyaway tamer will fuj your frizz:) http://glossy-beauty.blogspot.com.au/2011/12/how-to-get-sleek-top-bun-with-no-frizz.html?m=1
Good luck X
loading...
I once read the best thing to do is spray a tissue with hairspray than wipe the tissue over your fly aways so as not to end up with your hair all clumped together…. Maybe try that one girly:)
loading...
Along the same lines, I use the eyebrow brush thingy on the back of an eyelash comb and spray that with hairspray before combing my flyaways.
loading...
I have super frizzy hair but but found A’kin shampoo & conditioner for dry / dehyrdated hair used in conjuction with a generous dollop of their 24 moisture treatment work really well for me – although only for the day after I wash it, then it’s back to square one! Good for if I know I have to look polished on particular days though! In her last post Zoe mentioned she was packing O & M frizzy logic shine serum – I’m guessing that’s the anti-frizz product she uses!
loading...
Beautiful stash Miss Zoe
I can’t believe you fit it all into that little makeup bag! Impressive.
Big High Fives for taking a backpack. Oh I remember trying to be all glam with a trendy tote on my travels… It’s glamorous for all of 5 minutes when you have to haul-ass to the other end of the airport! I now love my super-cute Roxy backpack!
loading...
Sup y’all! Zoe talks about using a pinky white pencil for waterlining in Amazing Face, but I can’t find one anywhere – anyone know where I can get one?
loading...
Hi,
I got one at Mecca/Nars in Myer. It’s here http://www.meccacosmetica.com.au/shop/Nars/LargerThanLifeLongWearEyeliner/
Colour: Rue Bonaparte
They are a bit on the pricier side but I found the cheaper ones just weren’t any good and didn’t transfer well enough to the waterline.
loading...
YAY thanks Sue! Yeah I reckon you have to have a good one for waterlining too because it’s like RIGHT IN YOUR EYE MAN!
loading...
No worries.
The most annoying thing is if you were overseas you’d get it for $23.
Though now that I know the colour that I like when it runs out I can always look around online for cheaper options. However it seems to have lasted really well so far.
loading...
Kissandmakeupny.com and hq hair are both great online sites for Nars.
loading...
Benefit ‘eye bright’ pencil is a good pinky white pencil for brightening the eye.
loading...
I got one from the Benefit counter at Myer. I think it was called “high brow” just check with the someone at the counter (Mine is a godsend to open my eyes up when the kids have kept me awake all night and I look like death warmed up)
loading...
i bought a prestige double ended brow highlighter crayon and not only was it great for highlighting my brows but works really well on my waterline. one end is like a pinky matte colour and the other is a shiny gold. I love it. and it was only $8 in target!
loading...
Benefit eye bright is amazing. Nice creamy colour that applies well.
loading...
You can pick Benefit Eyebright $13 on ebay
loading...
Thanks Jess. I just bought one on ebay for USD13.99 shipped to Aus. Benefit site was USD20.
loading...
Gah I think I paid $4o for it from Benefit at Myer :/, now I know where to get one when it runs out!
loading...
I use Benefit’s Eye Bright – it stays all day but is way cheaper to buy on their online site then at Myers. They also have tons of really good giveaways all the time and usually send out some free samples too

Ohh now I’m mentally packing my make-up bag for trip in June that I haven’t booked (and might not even go on…) lol
I do have a question though- bourjois healthy mix foundation has been my foundation of choice for work and when I cbf putting a lot of effort in but I hate paying $32 for something that is so much cheaper oversea’s so usually get it from ASOS for $15 max. Alas they don’t stock it anymore… and neither does strawberry net- they are my go to sites- where else could I try?
loading...
Ebay. Other than that there aren’t many options. If you luck out on Ebay I’d find a temporary replacement and stock up when/if you go overseas.
loading...
Try Amazon. I just got Revlong lip butter from there. Can take a while to post but worth the savings.
loading...
Can anyone tell me – is the Bourjois mascara also a tubular mascara like the Clinique one?
loading...
It isn’t, no. Sorry, I should’ve mentioned that.

Would be great if you could do a post of good products you use that are not tested on animals. I love watching alot of your primped videos too but many of the products you use test on animals, which I won’t buy.
Something to think about
loading...
I agree…I’ve recently found out a few of my favourite products have been tested on animals so I have stopped buying them..it’s tempting to keep buying them, but I’m resisting..
loading...
A few years ago it suddenly dawned on me that the products I were buying were tested on animals. I’m such an animal lover and I don’t know how I didnt think about it before. Its quite appaulling really. Now I try and buy the most enviro/animal friendly products I can. For eg. I always opt for products in glass over plastic and try and get the most natural products I can eg. paraben free. But I dont always stick to that. However I will never ever buy products that have been tested on animals. No.matter.what. The Peta website has been a God send. Its made the transition so easy. You can search whatever product you are looking for and find what companies stock it that don’t test on animals. Its great! http://www.peta.org/living/beauty-and-personal-care/companies/default.aspx
loading...
Don’t you think that companies who are ‘animal cruelty free’ can be that way because of decades of research done on animals? The ingredients that they use have been tested on animals at some point, and because of those studies, they are able to use the ingredients. So they may not have paid for that research to be done, but they benefit from the research and get to claim that they are animal cruelty free.
Furthermore, research is EXPENSIVE (boy, it truly is), so if companies could avoid testing on animals they would. However, some companies need to be innovative. They need to be the pioneers and companies that “don’t test on animals” get to profit from that research later.
I seriously think Mamamia should get a researcher to explain how animal testing is really done, how the research process is monitored, and how companies that don’t test on animals benefit from research that does.
Edited to add: People who agree with animal testing rarely say they do out loud. I must admit, it’s an unpopular opinion and it would be easier for me to go with the flowery option. But I think if people were exposed to the other side of the argument, and see the good that has come from animal testing, they wouldn’t see things in such black and white.
loading...
Shan, no I dont think that the companies that are cruelty free piggy back off the info from those that do test on animals. There are many other ways to test that products are safe and effective. I suggest you contact Peta if you want some more info, or perhaps even Revlon as they stopped testing way back in the 90′s. You are absolutley entitled to your opinion and I guess are correct in saying its unpopular one. For me personally I am not interested in whats popular or “flowery” I am simply interested in making sure my money is not going toward a company that has any part of the very cruel practice of testing their products on animals. I consult the Peta list when buying products which is quite extensive and alot of research as gone into it. I wouldn’t have a clear concious if I did otherwise.

Thanks Zoe – fantastic! Have a wonderful trip
Just wondering what shadows you have on your eyes today -very pretty

Once again I find myself sitting at work with my head phones on pretending to do something productive to my working day but instead listening to the god-like advice of Zoe.
Brilliant post, thanks heaps Zoe.
A few things to add, to stop powder smashing in transit a few cotton balls packed inside the compact help.
ALSO NARS “copacabana multiple” is a god send hi lighter and great to use as a shadow base. Just sayin’. x

Ok, I wrote this just now on the Toiletry Bag post, but I’ll report similar here because I dunno if anyone checks posts after a while:
Ok, maybe I’m the only non-rich person reading this, but some of this stuff: really??
The BB eyeshadows (of which there are precisely 6) is $99. 50mL of skin tint is $80. 3 Napoleon eyeshadows for $55? And the stuff in the toiletry Bag post was even more startling (La Mer product at $200 for 100mL. The Sodashi hair treatment is $130.70 for 50mL.)
That is extraordinary. Even if a couple of the other products on the list are more modest (Covergirl for eg), I’m not sure how to read this list. Are we meant to see it as the Normal Person’s Make Up Bag??
It would be awesome if Zoe could try listing her favourite expeeeeensive products and ALSO a lower-cost reasonable equivalent. Please?
This is just not realistic for the average person.
I’m not trying to be nasty or negative – just desperately would like to apply Zoe’s advice, but at the current products she lists, it’s never going to happen.
loading...
I take my info more from the basic product Zoe’s taking ie. gel blush, eyeshadow etc, and then choose one from my price range. I think that although these are the products Zoe is actually taking with her, we’re not expected to use only those exact brands, so whenever I read the beauty posts on MM, I just adapt the basic products to my own circumstances.
loading...
I don’t think Zoe is telling us that we should buy the products she uses. She is just giving us an idea of what type of products we can use. The list is probably there because many people want to know exactly what the fantastic Miss Zoe uses herself. You can always look for alternative products, I do! I’m not afraid to tell the world I look for the cheaper options!
Great video again Zoe!
loading...
Agreed!

Zoe Foster tests makeup – she gets most of these products for free, and every time she recommends them I can guarantee that she is sent even more. I know because I work in the media too and you would be amazed at the freebies sent out for promotion. These posts are not paid advertisements but most of us don’t have a spare $200 to go out and try a product that may not suit our skin types.
loading...
Pip, I too am on a budget. So I look for the same type of product in a cheaper brand. I also shop at Priceline/Discount Chemists and also strawberry.net is a good place if you want to try the more expensive brands at a cheaper price.
loading...
Just thought I would add to the other comments that when I’m reading Zoe’s recommendations I usually take note of the texture (gel blush) and the colours of the palettes rather than the exact products. Also, there are some products on which I will happily spend a small fortune (moisturiser, serum, foundation) and others like eye shadow and eye liner that I will ALWAYS scrimp on and I assume other readers would do the same. Of course it depends on what you can afford, if only we all got to work in beauty and received free products like Zoe, *sigh*.
loading...
I’m far from wealthy, but I buy high-end makeup because I’m all about quality over quantity. A handful of beautiful, buttery, long-lasting eye-shadows over a drawer full of chalky Priceline impulse buys. A few blushes that I only have to tap once gently with a skunk brush to get what I need. A foundation that is an absolutely perfect colour match. A powder so finely milled no one can tell I’m wearing it. The majority of my make-up is from luxury brands, but I still spend significantly less on make-up than many of my friends who shop exclusively at Priceline. I’m just a lot pickier.
Zoe also listed a Revlon product, some Covergirl product’s, a Bourjois product and a Lanolips product, and many of the more exxy products can be bought online for about the same price as the brands mentioned above cost here. Benefit and MAC especially are very affordable if you know where to buy.
loading...
Also, it pays to not just look at price but SIZE of the product – on their website it says MAC face & body foundation is $60 but comes in 120ml bottle – that’s HUGE. My current foundation cost $15 but only comes in 30ml bottle! I think most would be 50ml, so by that logic if you find $30 a reasonable price for a normal sized bottle then there’s no reason why $60 should be considered exxy if it’s for 120ml. It’s all about cost per wear!
loading...
I’ve been searching for the perfect foundation for my uber pale skin since I was a teenager, I’d happily pay a more ‘expensive’ price for the right one!
loading...
Buy from America or even the UK. Some department store brands (Clinique, etc) are cheaper than what we pay at Priceline for regular brands (Covergirl, Revlon, etc). I flat out refuse to buy makeup and skin care products in Australia. (And I know I should be supporting Australian stores, but I’m sorry, a Clinique mascara for $38 here when it’s $14 US??? Revlon Lip Butters at $6.95 US instead of a sale price of $16.99 at Myer??? No.)
loading...
Can you recommend any sites that ship to Australia?
I don’t use strawberry.net – I’ve had a few buys where I’ve doubted the authenticity of the product.
loading...
Benefit ships to Australia. Illamasqua does too. All Cosmetics Wholesale is good.
Strawberrynet is 99% authentic. The only make-up brand I’d avoid is MAC, as there’s an enornous amount of fake MAC out there and some of it does find it’s way onto Strawberrynet. I regularly buy Chanel, YSL, Dior, Armani and other brands, and I’ve only ever received authentic products.
Parcel forwarding services aren’t hard to use and they’ll allow you to buy from Sephora, Neiman Marcus, US MAC etc.
loading...
I’ve bought Nars off kissandmakeupNY – no worries at all.
loading...
Yes, I’ve used many of the sites mentioned (Benefit, kissandmakeupNY) that ship directly. I often ship things through a mail forwarder like hopshopgo (linked with Paypal, super easy to use) or shipito — Sephora has amazing prices and you can get it sent to Australia using one of the forwarders.
Beautybay.com has good prices, and love-makeup.co.uk too. Hope that helps! It pays to have a look online. Even ry.com.au has better prices for many things here in Australia.
loading...
Pip Pip Pip!
I clearly indicate the category of product, e.g., “a tinted moisturiser”, or a “nude gloss,” and then I mention what I personally use, because women like to know what other women use and like, whether that is makeup, brand of breakfast cereal or exercise bra.
So to gently, and lovingly disagree with you, you definitely, absolutely CAN apply my advice, no matter what price range you’re in. You just head for the eyelash curler, or the black eyeliner, or the brown eyeshadow palette that suits you, and spend what you choose to.
(And I have written on budget beauty many, many, manymanymany times, even right here on Mamamia!)
loading...
I agree quality is more important than quality – I just buy the products I can afford and ignore the ones I can’t. I don’t need everything anyway – just what’s going to work for me and my budget. I accept that Zoe may get many of these products free anyway in her role? (apologies if I am wrong). She just gives the advice and then leaves it up to us to decide – no pressure. I have found her incredibly helpful esp recent great discoveries rosehip oil and the Revlon Lip butters!!!

Zoe. Oh. my. golly. freakin. gosh.
That eyebrow pencil sounds like the best thing since sliced bread.
Seriously. I can not, will not, leave the house until my eyebrows are filled in and looking, well, quite similar to your glorious brows. I need this in my life.
Is it the most amazing thing you have ever tried?
More importantly, do they sell Napolean cosmetics in the US at all? I’d love to find it at a department store over in this hemisphere!
loading...
Zoe often tries to include cheaper products. But this is a list of stuff she is actually taking with her. People have asked her, and she’s responded. Do you want her to lie, or what?
loading...
Lol now I am picturing you bolting through the airport with a Dora the explorer kiddie schoolbag! hehe. Love your makeup in this one, so radiant!
loading...
Perfect! Going overseas this year also and so needed this- Most wont get used with a hubby and 2 year old in tow but I still want to look fresh and glowing and im hoping for some glam summer nights too! Enjoy your trip I know I will

Ahh Zoe, I’m so jealous you will be cavorting around the divine cosmetics department that is Selfridges… (I can literally spend all day there) I guarantee you come back with twice as many face goodies after a few months in Europe.
Have a blast!! It would be super fun if you blog post-Europe to show us your makeup bag on your return – we all know the fab stuff they have for sale on that side of the cosmos.
loading...
Great post Zoe! Love the insight into your makeup world and what products you use. What sort of foundation would work best for combination skin types? More of a matte finish? I use bourjois healthy mix which is gorgeous but ATM I’m looking like a shiny and not in a nice way :p safe trip!!!!

“it sucks warheads”…
BAHAHAHAHA!!! Gold!
Thanks for providing the flashback to my teenage years Zoe!!
loading...
Aww, Zoe, I was hoping to see your engagement ring in this one!
loading...
I’m pretty sure it was on her right hand, I caught a glimpse of it when she was holding something up. Rewatch it!
loading...
Seriously girls, this is why Zoe probably stopped doing videos so much. There are plenty of videos where you can see the ring, stop making it the sole reason you commented on a video that would have taken Zoe a while to organise and make.

Hi Zoe,
Do you know if a foundation without any SPF exists? Specifically to wear at night time when you don’t need sunscreen.
loading...
I use Maybelline Dream Liquid Mousse for night when I don’t want SPF. Cheap as!
loading...
Maybelline mousse is kind of awesome. I’m actually preferring it as a night time foundation rather than my usual GA Luminous Silk and it’s almost a fifth of the price, WINNER!
loading...
Thank you for responding Jane & Talitha. I just looked up Maybelline Dream Liquid Mousse and it doesn’t contain any SPF, which is great i will buy some. It surprises me that make-up companies don’t cash in on advertising make-up for night.
Thanks again
loading...
I’ve heard this is good too, but bare in mind Maybelline tests their products on animals (less in a “hey that really suits your fur” and more in a “going to sting the crap out of your eye til you’re blind” kind of way).

Smashbox hasn’t got SPF and is great you can layer it and build it up beautifully!
