Covergirl Intense Shadowblast in Beige Blast and Brown Bling

This is the second part of a two-part post on the products that Zoe Foster really uses; if you’d like to see part one, go here.

The Ultimate Eyelid Primer and Cream Shadow

One thing I am often asked is what have I got wedged between my teeth. Another thing I’m asked, and something that is probably more relevant to this post, is how come my g-damn eye shadow never lasts? The answer is because you have not correctly prepped your eyelids with either a primer or a cream eye shadow. From there I usually recommend several terrific cream eye shadows (such as Bobbi Brown cream shadow in sand, or my beloved but now discontinued Clinique Quick Eyes in Muffin) but GUESS WHAT, there is a new kitty in town! Covergirl Intense Shadowblast! She is very affordable, super long lasty (hard-to-remove, even! But that’s what we want from a lid primer: LONGEVITY) and comes in the exact shades I always bang on about: a semi-shimmery vanilla-beige-sandstone colour, (“Beige Blaze”) which acts as a terrific base for all powder shadow shades, and instantly opens up and brightens the eyes, and a gorgeous chocolate brown shade, (“Brown Bling”) which will make your smoky eyes just that bit more intense and excellent, but can also be worn solo on the lid (although a touch of foundation on the eyelid first is a good idea to conceal veins and darkness) for an “I’ve spent time doing eye makeup” look, when in fact all you did is smear the wand applicator on your lids and smush it around with your rude finger to blend it. I have taken to wearing one of these shades every single day, and make absolutely no apology for this.

Dr Hauschka Lemon Bath oil and Rose Body Moisturiser

Just Some Delicious Body Care.

Fans of Hauschka or nasty-free skincare will be thrilled that the Doc has created some new body moisturisers, and not only are they a Genuinely Great Product, gosh these make a terrific gift for girlfriends. Who wouldn’t want a lovely body cream or oil dripping with pure essential oils and goodness? Only a dingus.

I have become fanatical about using the lemon bath oil followed by the rose body lotion, so that I smell a little bit like an exciting cocktail, or an expensive yoga studio. It’s a wonderfully sensorial full stop to an intense day, and I highly recommend it.

I would love to know Zoe’s (and anyone elses too) recommended product for dark under-eye circles? I suffer from these no matter how much sleep I get and the fact my under-eye area is ‘sunken’ exacerbates the problem!

I used to get these terribly too before I started using a MAC concealer. I went to one of their counters in Bourke St Mall and the girl matched one to my skin and taught me how to apply it. I’m sure the other brands would do similar if you wanted something different.
The YSL touche éclat pen is also good for highlighting this area and avoiding dark circles. I don’t have my own but often steal mums!

Hi Caris, I’ve got cfs so always have dark circles and sunken eyes. I use a light eye shadow, lots of mascara and concealor under the eye then I dust my whole eye area with bronzer. Obviously blended well. But it makes those dark circles hard to notice. Also use some white eyeliner on your bottom lashes and it will open up your eyes and make u look wide awake. :) hope this helps.

Arbonne RE9 Anti ageing range is amazing – my skin is smoother, less likely to breakout and just looks better – especially as im now in my 40′s. They have a huge range of products, including some great at home spa products that the beauty salons use and then charge you a fortune! I use there make-up primer under my foundation its great!

So I’ve decided I must have the CoverGirl shadow (as I do with so many of Zoe’s recommendations) and while checking colours online, found that Target has 25% off all CoverGirl until Monday. HTH.

I went out yesterday and bought my very first ‘grown up’ makeup! I bought my first ever foundation (clinique… even better… something) and an ‘almost’ lipstick in … something. Go me!

I’m 30. And now (apparently) all grown up!

What’s the best way of applying cream shadow? I feel like I always do it wrong and still end up with it all going into my eye creases. Should I be blending it with my fingers? Or not? keeping my eye closed till it dries? Putting the powder ontop before it dries?
    Help me please!! :)

Ok, thought it would just be easier to ask my question here… I’m interested in buying the ultraceuticals even skin tone serum for my pimple scarring. I have a concentrated serum from la mer that I use in the morning which is supposed to help with scarring and I have just started using rose hip oil of a night. I use a Mario bedescu cleanser, no toner (do I need one?) and crime de la mer moisturiser and Dr Dennis gross alpha beta peels. I always seem to have a breakout and the prods I have on hand are Mario bedescu drying lotion, and the buffering lotion from MB, pâté Gris from payout, eve lom dyna spot (pimple cream) and the masks I use are eve lom rescue mask which I love and the chantecaille detox clay mask.
My question is is there anything I am missing from my routine that you could recommend or am I using too much, anything I can omit?

      Hi Donna M,

Is it recent scarring, or old pimple scars you are trying to fix? If they are old, i would try skin needling at a derm clinic, or i think even IPL can fix scarring. If ts recent, i swear by mario badescu’s healing cream – it has been a miracle for me!

I think Mecca and Kit have it – but i personally get it at beautybay.com because that whole range is significantly cheaper with free delivery. The only bummer is that it takes a few weeks to get here…

Wow. You spend quite a bit on skincare. Have you considered changing your diet if you still get pimples? A good beautician can tell you whether your acne is a result of hormones or diet.

Kaz, you know what? you could be right. I do have a pretty shocking diet at the moment. working mother with three kids, I kind of let my own meals come last. I’ve just turned 35 and am so so sick of constant pimples that I do tend to use a majority of my own (money i have earned while kids are at school) on my skin. My husband also travels a lot and gets most of it overseas where it is heaps cheaper!
I live in Melbourne and thought I was seeing a good beautician, maybe I need to see someone else? a dermatologist maybe??

      Hi Donna,
Zoe recently wrote a post about this, it was called “if you’ve ever had a pimple, read this”
I found it very helpful as she has suggested a number of options and products to tackle uneven skin tone and post inflammatory pigmentation from pimps.
I think its probably exactly what you are looking for.

I was wondering what everyone thought of the whole Skinceuticals range?
Its really expensive but seems to work…. Are there cheaper alternatives?

Love love love these posts Zoe!
I’ve been after a decent body oil and am very excited by your recommendation. I’m guessing Mecca for purchasing? I have not had much luck with eye shadow primers, tried the Nars one because all my eyeshadows are Nars but did not like the effect. Will try the cover girl one. Do you know anything about the Kate Somerville products? I’m currently using the pimple eliminating stick and it seems pretty good so far. I have some questions about your pimple post from last week, hope you can revisit the site to answer my question :)
Keep up the great posts and love your sense of humor.
