Supermodels without makeup and without Photoshop – it’s not something you see very often.
But check out these photos (with a certain “surprise” thrown in)
Shots of Louis Vuitton’s fall/winter 2010 runway team have been compared with different images of the same models. The clean-look photos are standard in the modelling industry.

Uhh, most of them are wearing eyeliner and mascara. I doubt Jessica Stam has naturally smoky eyelids. And I wonder how Coco Rocha got the outside corner of her eyes to look black like that? They’re still wearing make-up- just less of it.

I went to school with a girl (a real sweetheart, lovely inside and out and very well liked by pretty much everyone) who got ‘discovered’ and did a shoot in Vogue magazine.
I remember how incredibly embarrassed she was when the mag came out – she had been given this incredible cleavage (she had very small breasts) amongst other things, it hardly looked like her.
It was a lesson to pretty much our whole year how much they photoshop the hell out of the pics they take.
A shame really.

I think the incessant fascination with models is kind of boring and sophomoric. Is this Dolly mag or a women’s interest forum?
loading...
There are a lot of comments saying how amazing they look without makeup, and I agree they still look pretty, but has no one else noticed how grey and dull some of their skin looks?

Duh. So?

They are beautiful with or without makeup, they all have lovely bone structure, and symmetry and clear skin i notice they all have big gorgeous eyes and big pouty lips and defining cheek structure, , people need to stop comparing themselves to others though, if you get asked out , you are attractive to someone. everyone is someone else’s reason to masterbate too…vulgar I know but the truth, I thought i was horrid looking when growing up, but i wasn’t was constantly hit on and asked out. even after gaining over 500 lbs people still asked me out and these guys and girls were attractive….people need to self appreciate instead of downing themselves constantly ….now that is unattractive, not having any confidence and low self esteem , ask any man or women. for that matter constantly knocking yourself down is off putting. we are not all Raquel welshes or Brad pitts, but some people would take a “plain jane” over a model any day. . we are not all attracted to the same thing. after all, Don’t like something about yourself, change it with diet and exercise…makeup or surgery. You could be the most beautiful women in the world, if you are ugly on the inside , no one will want to be around you..

They all look gorgeous without make up. All of them have very clear skin

I recently clicked on a old friend’s facebook page with the intention to reconnect with him a bit after a long silence from my part, and thought I’d tease him about a funny photo I’d seen. All I saw on his page were a long list of RIP messages. I was in such a shock and still feel a bit numb today. He died alone in his apartment and it now seems he was deeply unhappy. I will always regret not having been in touch earlier and been there for him.

Have you noticed that none of them are smiling in the photos on the left? A nice smile is better than make up. Most of them are very good looking women anyway. Just keep smiling
loading...
They aren’t meant to smile in the left photos – it’s kind of like a model’s passport photo – they’re sent to the people they work for so that they know what they’ve got to work with, without makeup or facial expressions getting in the way.
loading...
It is strange how so many thin women have such big boobs.
loading...
yes I was looking at the boobs too!
loading...
what’s with the boobs????!!!
loading...
I just think they have squashed them way up. Maybe it’s part of the what the client has to work with strategy.
loading...
Lol I love how even in the clean look photos they’re all still wearing push up bras!
loading...
they still look great!! great skin tone..most have wide open eyes…
loading...
Adriana Lima is an alien from outer space… seriously could the women be anymore beautiful?! Even without a stitch of makeup she is AMAZING!
I wish I was that lucky!
loading...
I agree. She is the stand out in the group I think. Stunning!
loading...
Beautiful with, beautiful without, as long as they are happy who really cares?
loading...
Wow, more than a little jealousy going on here. I wish it was possible to enjoy a bit of Mamamia but hold the vitriol. Seriously, we’re our own worst enemies (women). It’s just vile.
loading...
They may not look as polished and stunning as they do in real photo shoots but if you saw these girls on the street I think you’d still look twice…. they’re still pretty gorgeous without makeup, most are 5 foot 10 or taller and all are very slim with pretty good boobs to boot!
loading...
yay another model bashing post turns to skinny bashing post. Have we learnt nothing people?
loading...
They all look in need of a good meal.
loading...
Ugh I despise comments like this. Enough already!
loading...
They look like us!!!
loading...
Adriana Lima looks more stunning without makeup … Damn
loading...
They all look beautiful without make up! Lucky girls!
loading...
Annabelle, can I suggest some glasses? i am stunned at how plain they look! Much prettier girls out there, walking down any street..
loading...
“Much prettier girls out there, walking down any street..”
Yeah – wearing makeup! These girls are stunning, even without makeup… and coupled with some amazing figures.
I’d say there’s not too many girls out on the street that look better than these girls do.
loading...
Jules, why are you assuming all the girls walking down the street have make up on?
loading...
Because 99% of them do
loading...
i know these women are still flawless and plus the lighting washes them out complete tell what normal looking women would look good in that lighting and angle!
loading...
That’s ridiculous, and incredibly good to know that I probably wouldn’t look at them twice if I saw them in the street. Lighting, make-up, photoshop and professionals are really what it takes to look that impossibly perfect after all!

Hahahaha! I love the photogenic guy!
loading...
Sorry but they all still look as gorgeous!…..I certainly don’t look that good even WITH a full face of makeup.
Sigh.
Stylist And The City
loading...
There’s alot of boob in the no make up shots…if you’ve got it flaunt it
loading...
I noticed that too. I’d say ‘breast implants’, you can just tell when they aren’t ‘natural’. No flat chesty’s in these photos.
loading...
The before shots are test shots from a previous Louis Vuitton campaign. That season the dresses all had corsets and really emphasised the ladies’ curves. That’s why they chose such voluptuous (in the model world anyway) models.
loading...
they all look pretty real to me… fakies are way more obvious
loading...
I love this post! Growing up with a father as a professional photographer I was always told models never looked the way they did in magazines. This was before digital made everything easier too! It’s all make up techniques, posing and lighting. I think I was a lot luckier than most girls going through puberty and those dreaded teen yrs cos I had Dads make up artist and my Dad show me how they get those models to look that way. They made me look that way (obviously no sexy stuff! Lol) I wish more people truly knows what goes on at modeling shoots!
loading...
Dude some of then are wearing eyeliner I am sure!
loading...
I noticed that too! A couple still had eyeliner on which was a shame because I’m sure they still would have looked incredibly beautiful without it!
loading...
Gosh they really photoshop the crap out of them don’t they. With some of those girls their whole face structure was changed in the ‘after’ photos. Thye were pretty and distinctive looking beforehand though. There is just no need to this to happen. Sigh.
loading...
What a shock – models, even without makeup, are skinny, pretty girls with amazing bone structure and eyes like Bambi. Colour me shocked.
loading...
Couldn’t have said it better…
loading...
Even without photoshop and makeup these girls are like an alien species. Stunning.
loading...
What is with the snide remarks – she looks so unwell/unhappy/whatever. Is it jealousy?
loading...
Sorry my remark was not intended to be snide just a reference to the fact not one of them is smiling. Instead they look downright depressed!
loading...
In a photo testing you are told not to smile. That’s how they see your bone structure and how you look on film. Also how your angles play with the light.
loading...
Love the inclusion of ridiculously photogenic guy!
loading...
While they still look beautiful It is certainly a more achievable beauty. However, they look a miserable lot! Must be the lack of food.
loading...
Jealous much? What a ridiculous comment. Skinny bashing is so 2011 wake-up!
loading...
I want to see one of the dude who models women’s clothing, Andrej Pejic – would be interesting to see how feminine he looks sans makeup with a five-o’clock shadow!!
loading...
He does male modelling as well, so there’s no shortage of pictures of him make-up free.
loading...
cause male models model makeup free, right?
loading...
Nice to see them without the makeup.
They have done studies to see what the human eye finds attractive and being asymmetrical is the biggie apparently.
Meanwhile, I’m happy to be just average. It’s hard enough to be growing older and dealing with lack of skin tone. It must be even harder if you start off that beautiful, more to lose.
loading...
Pretty sure it’s symmetrical not asymmetrical? I think…
loading...
Ha Ha Lucy,
Your right. Seems I’m not only average looking , but sometimes not too bright either
loading...
Actually it’s the golden ratio, then symmetry. If a face conforms to the golden ratio then then any noticeable asymmetry is negligible.
loading...
I wonder (not really) what Samantha Brick thinks of these girls…do *they* have female friends because they’re so beautiful???
loading...
Thanks for this MM!
I must have been accidentally enrolled in a particularly model-worthy year group or something because somehow, I went to school with two models: Anneliese Seubert (google her – she’s gorgeous!) and Kate Fischer.
Anneliese won the ‘Face of the 1990s’ comp and wound up on the cover of Vogue and modelling for all the big designers etc. Kate won the Dolly covergirl comp when we were in Yr 8 – and you probably know the rest of her story.
My recollection is of lining up against them both for the annual high jump comp in athletics, and it being a bit of a battle against their ridiculously long legs but – other than that – they looked a lot like these pics (and I mean that in a good way).
They were comfortingly ‘normal’ – you could sit with them around your kitchen table and have pancakes after a sleepover (though I’d probably have eaten a bigger serve, and couldn’t test that theory cos I wasn’t one of the ‘cool kids’, lol).
But I think that, having seen them without makeup every day for years, then suddenly seeing them on the covers of magazines in our mid-teens, I had an early lesson in ‘this is not what they really look like…’
Suddenly I wish my young teen girls were at school with a budding model and could learn the same lesson, early on…

I went to primary and high school with Rachael Taylor (face of Bonds Christmas 2011 and a few different movies).
I have jealous moments of course lol, but whenever I see her on the screen (especially scenes where she answers a phone) I’m instantly transported back in time to when I went to play at her house and she was the first person I met who answered their phone with the phone number (possibly the last, too). And then, in those low moments when I regret that I’m not someone, I have those memories that remind me that ‘someones’ are the same as me, went to school, had to finish maths homework and do PE, and have to negotiate relationships and go to work the same as I do. And they probably have those same moments too
)

I went to the same school as you (although a few years later) and went on the LIterary tour to France. We ran into Anneliese on the metro. Can you imagine the look on her face when the doors opened and her old English teacher was standing in front of her with a gaggle of excited girls! She was on her way to a shoot so was completely without makeup but just gorgeous.
loading...
Awesome story!
loading...
Bone structure, bone structure, bone structure.
loading...
and L I P S ! !
loading...
The woman are all beautiful, and I haven’t read many comments but to me many of them look unwell.
loading...
There’s no denying that these girls are natural beauties, but I must say – most of them are completely unrecognizable!
Looking at their ‘before’ pictures, I would never have guessed they were the same girls as their ‘after’ pictures.
Oh, what a good stylist and photoshop artist can do!
loading...
I think the women all look great without make-up, and like ordinary people (sort of!). It’s great to see.
loading...
I have to disagree, I think they look very ordinary (like me) and I doubt I’d look twice if I passed one of them in the street.
It must take a very trained eye to ‘spot’ them in the first place and know how they’d look with the full treatment.
loading...
Disagree, they all have beautiful bone structure and stunning features. Naturally beautiful girls.
loading...
I agree. What these women all have in common is incredible bone structure & the camera, lighting etc laps that up.
loading...
I was feeling the same way… maybe not quite the ‘just like me’ bit but certainly i think most (not all) a very ‘normal’ looking… but everyone sees things differently.
loading...
They look so hungry and tired
But don’t get me wrong, still absolutely stunning without make up
loading...
I totally, 100% adore the pout on Rosie’s face in the first photograph.
It is beautiful, intriguing, mystical, inviting and extremely sexy.
She should go without the makeup more often. If this is what is meant by “the natural look”…..then I’m all in favour of the natural look. It gets my vote.
loading...
I didn’t think they looked amazing or like models without makeup…. In fact they looked tired and have blotchy skin just like everyone else! They just looked like ordinary people. Except their boobs, they still looked amazing even without photoshop!
loading...
LOL at the bikini tan line on Bar Rafaeli. Definitely natural there!
loading...
I think they all look beautiful without the makeup. I note some of the comments wondering what some of you or someone you know may look like with a ‘glamour shot’ and I bet a lot would look just as glamourous but simply are not in the model business. I suppose models are constantly in their glamour makeup when we see them and it’s the reverse to see them without it and we are surprised to some degree to see that they look like somebody we would see walking down the street.
Sure, together with professional photography, lighting, photoshop the transformation goes further however at the end of the day somebody has seen the potential in these people and built on it.
Photogenic guy needs no work!
loading...
Are these the modern day ‘supermodels’?? makes me feel really old, I don’t even know of 1/4 of these models. I miss Elle, Cindy and Claudia….
loading...
To me they aren’t supermodels until they are household names on a first name basis – that is, we instantly know who you are talking about if you name them: Elle, Cindy, Claudia, as you say – and Lynda, Kate, Heidi, Helena, among others. I think the real supermodels have media profiles that go way beyond their modelling duties – hence the term. The others are ‘just’ models!
loading...
How is this supposed to make women feel better about themselves? Are you kidding me!! they are still amazing without make-up and yes they look better in the second photo just like any woman would with make-up on. To try and pretend they are average without it and just like the rest of us is ridiculous. If I woke up looking like Adrianna without make-up I would be, well I would be a rich supermodel. What a inane patronising article!
loading...
I don’t think anyone is trying to say that they aren’t magnificently beautiful. Of course they are, they’re supermodels. I just think its interesting to see how much hair, make up and photoshop change how they look.
loading...
women need to remember that there will always be more beautiful, younger women than themselves. When they stop comparing themselves they will be truly content with this. Be happy with what you were blessed with and forget to compare as we can never win..
