Breaking Fashion News: Sass and Bide designers leave Sass and Bide.

Today is a very sad day for Australian fashion. And for every woman who enjoys a good pair of Sass and Bide jeans/jackets/basically everything.

Sarah-Jane Clarke and Heidi Middleton have stepped down from their brand Sass and Bide.

The iconic designers, who founded the fashion house in the mid 1990’s, announced this morning that they would be leaving the label almost 20 years after it began.

In 2011, Myer bought 65 per cent of the brand for $42.5 million, and took on full ownership last year. Middleton and Clarke continued to work as the Creative Directors, however it is believed they’ve been transitioning out of the company for some time.

In a statement Myer said, “They go with our great good wishes and we expect that they will be associated with Sass & Bide for a long time.”

Middleton has headed to France for a year with her family, while Clarke will remain in Sydney with her husband and three kids.

Clarke and Middleton aren’t the first Aussie designers to step away from their companies. In 2012, Jodhi Meares stepped down from her brand Tigerlily while the genius behind Willow, Kit Willow was pushed out from her label.

The new creative directior of Sass and Bide Anthony Cuthbertson, started two weeks ago. Here’s hoping he knows a thing about jeans, sequins and fluro.

Here’s a look back at some of our favourite pics of the pair:
