The Screen Actors Guild Awards are often considered to be a prelude to the Academy Awards – in that they provide an indication of who might be  taking home a little golden man on the big night – but the stars take the opportunity to frock up at the preface, just as seriously as they do at the main event.

This year the SAG nominees include Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway for their moving performances in Les Miserables, Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper for their turns in the slightly-unstable rom-com Silver Linings Playbook, and Daniel Day-Lewis and Sally Field for their performances in Lincoln (which has been nominated for no less than twelve Oscars).

But before the awards, come the glitz and glamour of the red carpet – and it’s anybody’s guess as to who will emerge victorious in the style stakes.

Flick through the gallery to see the red carpet arrivals – and keep checking back for more!

Who do you think is rocking the red carpet? Which is your favourite frock?

I love simple and elegant so my best were Jessia Chastain, Naomi Watts she looked like old hollywood glamour, Guiliana Rancic, Jennifer Garner and Nancy O’Dell’s dress blew me away – wow! There were a lot of breasts hanging out and ill fitting dresses. Surprised to be Sophia Vergara and Lea Michel in the ill fitting category, they’re usually a knockout. Sigourney Weaver’s breasts looked weird in her dress.

I must be getting old or really out of it, but I didn’t know who 3/4 of these people were. For the record, I thought Sally Field looked lovely.

Agreed! She was one of the few who looked elegant

I think Guiliana Rancic is my pick of the bunch. There weren’t many ‘fashion’ moments really, all a bit bleh.

Is it just me or this one of the most uninspiring red carpets ever?

The dresses on most of the ladies seem ill-fitted or just the wrong shape. So many weird squashed boobs, waists too high / low, too tight, odd colours or just plain unflattering! There are a couple which are lovely, but most seem a bit “blah”.

Maybe I am just getting old!

Marion Cotilliard looked beautiful and her gown was gorgeous. Where is her photo?

Isn’t the chick with Busy Phillips Kelly Cuoco? From Big Bang Theory? Or am I just assuming that it’s wrong?

It’s Kaley Cuoco but judging by the number of comments it doesn’t appear as if the moderators are going to fix thus one.

    I loved Jamie Alexander’s dress!

I saw The Impossible last night, oh my, I’m still reeling from it. It was amazing and harrowing and beautiful and devastating and so much more. Naomi Watts was amazing, as was Thomas Holland, they deserve all the accolades they get!
