Are you going with Hamish to the Logies? What is your skin care preparation for something like this?
Bianca
I am indeed going to the Logies! I am so proud of my dude that I have genuinely considered having a t-shirt made saying “VOTE ONE BLAKE!” but then I realised people might just think I am a really passionate Blake Lively fan.
The Logies are both a terrifying and thrilling notion for a lady, and they require more preparation (and avoidance of carbohydrates) than one might imagine. But oh THE FUN! If you can remember what getting ready for your school formal was like, it’s a bit like that, but on Red Bull. My favourite part is the flight down to Melb the day before, in which the plane heaves with Home and Away stars, all carrying dress and suit bags.
Now. You are right to ask about skin care preparation, Bianca. Because while makeup might (“does”) work wonders, I will always advocate and pursue a pretty excellent canvas first. Makeup sits so much better on glowy, healthy skin. And in close up photos, it makes a big bloody difference. Just ask any bride. (Except Kim Kardashian. She might be a little touchy.)
I always do the same thing leading up to a big event, or book tour: book in a bunch of Omnilux Revive sessions. I write about this habit extensively in Amazing Face, so I apologise to those who already know this and who are now scrolling up to read another blog post. We’ll miss you.
Omnilux is a pizza-box sized lamp of very bright light which you lay under, eyes closed, goggles on, for 20 minutes. It is entirely non-invasive, non-painful (it feels like you are laying under the Mediterranean sun, in fact) and you can walk out and get on with your day immediately. (The REAL results shine through the next day.)
Omnilux complements the skin’s own ability to rejuvenate, boosts collagen synthesis and breeds a ludicrous amount of glow. My face looks plump and healthy, tone is bright and luminous, lines are softened and even dark circles seem to fade. Think of it as a lovely, warm light that you lay under to recharge your skin cells. Like a computer or phone. It’s g-damn miracle worker. Not even the diabolically hungover or tired stand a chance against lamp.
There are three possible heads for the lamp: Revive, Plus and Blue. I choose revive because the effects are instant and the red light boosts my happy chemicals. The Plus is infrared and is better for more mature skin, and long term effects. Blue is for clearing acne and congestion.
A fast tracked, power program* for great skin:
*This is course this is dependent on the state of your skin and how much time and cash you have – each Omnilux session is around $85 and takes around 45 minutes all up, including cleansing and moisturising. I got to The Facial Room in Woollahra and see gorgeous Jocelyn.
Two weeks out: A peel (such as Priori LCA) then the Revive lamp, then a hydrating mask. An additional session of just the lamp a few days later wouldn’t be crazy, either.
Week of event: An exfoliation and Revive lamp session, then a day or two before the actual event, Revive lamp and a hydrating mask.
That’s the best possible scenario for amazo skin in my opinion.
Yes, I have regular facials, with beautiful steaming and extractions and massage and thermal masks as well, but for DEFINITE, ASSURED glow, I will always opt for the company of Lady Omnilux Von Revive.
Love,
Glowy Foster.

Congrats on your man’s win!!! i saw a pic of you two in the Daily Telegraph – you look amazing girl! amazing dress, hair and makeup!!
both of you are beaming!!!

I’m booked in for Omnilux Revive this afternoon in Adelaide, after a HUGE weekend in Sydney visiting friends I am feeling a little ‘lack-lustre’ so thought I would give it a go! I will let you know how I go! I’m trusting you on this one…

I find it strange that this post revolves around just one product, unlike other articles which give a number of options. Of course, advertisements tend to not mention other brands, so it makes it pretty clear this is an ad, not an honest opinion. Whatever happened to disclaimers?
loading...
I might be wrong, but I thought Mia wrote a post 6-12 months ago about how there would be a disclaimer, or some sort of acknowledgement at the bottom of posts where columnists received products for free or were paid to advertise them? Is this still the case? Love Zoe’s posts as well as other columnists but would like to know if they receive products/services for free and/or are paid to advertise them.

Would love it if we could be given a heads up when an article is actually an advertorial. Zoe appears on ads for Omnilux (they appear in gyms) and the spiel given is the same as the article here.
Very disappointed.

Hi Sonya,
I just wanted to let you know that the story by Zoe wasn’t an advertorial at all. I am the PR Manager for Omnilux and we do not pay Zoe to do any advertising nor advertorials for it. Zoe only appears on a testimonial that she provided us and wasn’t paid for. We haven’t used it in any advertising all all, we’ve only produced a little showcard with her testimonial on it – at her permission. I can 100% guarantee you that Zoe has written the article as she truly loves the results that Omnilux gives her. We were so excited and surprised by this article that Zoe wrote and we love that the Omnilux gives her such great results. I hope this clarifies the situation of the article for you. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any other questions. You could email me at work – miacassin@true-solutions.com.au. Warm regards.

She’s not paid in cash, but is she paid in kind (ie, free sessions)?
I love Zoë’s columns but am somewhat curious about whether some of the things she’s promoting are given to her as freebies, such as the Invisalign work and the Omnilux sessions — her posts about these two products in particular have an advertorial tone.
Still love reading about these things, but I’d love to know the background on this one.
loading...
she’s always raved about this – in other sites and in her book so doubt its paid advertising…its her job to rave and share about what she tries and loves and that works…

Very uncomfortable with the reference here to avoiding carbohydrates ahead of a ‘big’ night. Doesn’t that contradict Mama Mia’s focus on positive body image? It feels like we’re all supposed to giggle and exchange knowing looks – like this is one of the ‘fat-preventatives’ women are all naturally supposed to do and accept.

Hi Clem,
Funnily enough, I’ve been swirling a column on this exact subject around in my mind based on Lady Gaga talking about not eating on Twitter and getting slammed.
Zoe speaks for Zoe and (like every writer I admire) she is always honest and authentic. Is it better to lie and pretend you look the way you do by eating whatever you want and doing no exercise and just having ‘good genes’ or is it better to be honest about what it takes to look a certain way?
Zoe can only speak her truth and be honest about her experience.
I’m going to explore the issue more in a column on Mamamia this week.

I definitely agree that writers write for themselves, and I wouldn’t like to see a company line being employed on any website. It’s the phrasing that I disagree with – like I said, it seems like a sort of accepted way of being.
I guess because it’s not in the context of Zoe saying that these are the particular choices she makes to be ‘red carpet ready’ (I hate typing that phrase!), but that that’s the choice a person would obviously make.
It’s nothing personal against Zoe – I just think that these tiny things all add up to increase the volume on those voices telling us not to eat certain things if we want to fit in to an acceptable ideal. I’m not at all suggesting Zoe needs to eat a truckload of rolls as some kind of statement.
Ugh, I think I just really hate any reference to what people are or aren’t eating. You can be honest about the difficulties in looking a certain way without reinforcing tips and tricks.
loading...
I know that if I was walking down the red carpet in a slinky frock I too would be having a couple of facials and avoiding the pasta, I think Zoe was just being honest, not promoting negative body image or advertising anything..
This is just a fun little piece about getting ready for the logies and I’m surprised by all of the feedback!
loading...
There are lots of comments on here already questioning the safety of the lamp. Zoe can you give us some more information on it? Sort of like an infomercial for people who think it is too advertising like?
loading...
Sounds like an advert to me!
loading...
Half of Zoe’s posts are adverts–not because she’s getting paid for it, probably, but because that’s the nature of beauty writing: you can’t just recommend some trend or beautifying procedure (e.g. lavender eyeshadow/blackhead extraction) without recommending specific products or services that are relevant. I’m as wary about Omnilux as anyone, but I just think beauty writing is impossible without sounding like an advert at least some of the time. It comes with the territory, and i’m pretty sure she’s not getting paid to flog it…
loading...
Zoe has been doing this for a while now. She has to be genuine otherwise people would see through the charade! I know she only writes about products she personally uses and can endorse from her experience.
loading...
That’s what i thought. Especially as this type of writing is more casual and chit-chatty, it’d be easy to detect a phony piece, and obviously as the majority of readers are fans, we can tell she’s the Real McCoy.
loading...
I want to know exactly what products she endorses…… helps to sort through the confusing landscape of false promises and unachievable dreams…….. I trust her and I hope she realises that and would not abuse that by paid endorsement.
loading...
totally not understanding this omniluxe thing… how is it different to a solarium????
loading...
I honestly think this is one of those trendy things that, years later, will turn out to be cancer-causing, immensely harmful, and basically idiocy in the name of vanity… and we poor consumers who indulged initially were mere guinea pigs, unbeknownst to us. Just like tanning beds. (Which beauty writers flogged back when THEY came out.. and now they’re against it just like any other informed person)
It doesn’t SOUND safe, and i don’t wanna risk it.

How am I preparing for the Logies ?
By checking the TV guide to see what else is on ! For my money, the magic of the night disappeared the moment that the opened the voting to include texts right up until the last minute of the telecast.
How I long for the days when genuinely talented actors and presenters were shortlisted for a gong. The days when programs with a bit more substance than Masterchef and The Block reigned supreme because the average viewer had a longer concentration span. When the viewer actually watched the program rather than clicking on Twitter or Fango.
But seriously….the night before my wedding I stayed at home alone wearing a green mud pack on my face whilst I sipped champagne. Come the big day….I glowed ! Or should that be I “glud” ?

Bradley, I don’t know where you’ve been, but welcome back

As Zoe is so (correctly) pro-sunscreen, I assume this is safe, but I can’t help but feel that this Omnilux light business is a whole bunch of UV rays in some form or other. Like, when the dentist holds the blue light on your face and everyone wears sunglasses.
Is this safe for the very fair?
loading...
I worry about this too…is it safe??
I know it’s a bit off topic, but I also get scared about laser hair removal. Does anyone have an info on this?
loading...
“They” said it was safe (beauty salon), but simultaneously not advised for pregnant and heart patients..So.. probably not ACTUALLY truly safe, but passes the radar for most people.
loading...
I am fair and freckly and I have been having Omnilux light therapy for a while now. I have been religiously using sunscreen for about 10 years (I am 35) but have old freckles, brown spots (from my non-careful years) and some light acne scarring, I also gained some dark pigment spots during pregnancy. The results so far are amazing, my dark spots have faded by about 60%.
It is expensive but I can’t recommend it enough and now that I am putting the effort and expense into my skin I am hard core about sunscreen on my face!

ATTENTION: WA/ Perth people
Where can I get one of these fabulous steamy extractiony facials that Zoe mentions? I’ve wanted to start having them for a while because my blocked pores need some serious action, just not sure where to go!
loading...
Museo in Mt Lawley do fabulous facials – including extractions when the steaminess doesn’t cut it
loading...
Hi Caris, Museo in Mt Lawley do fabulous facials – and extractions if you need them. Highly recommend.
loading...
Damn I knew that would happen!
loading...
And what are you planning to wear?
I could give you matching his & her selk’bags if you want (sleeping bag suits). Just in case it’s a bit chilly, or your planning to camp out afterwards…
loading...
Thanks Zoe – just wondering – what is your opinion of oxygen facials? Have had them a few times and think I can see a bit of a difference but don’t know if am just gullible. And along with the above posts, since winter is coming a post on keeping the dry flakey skin at bay would be great!

So I was excited about the red light, booked a session, the chick turned it on and I totally freaked! that red light is hard core, man! So, so scary. Zoe do they give you goggles that block out the absolute redness because I just had little weeny pads on my eyes. It was so like a quick trip to hell, and she had to switch the light to the white one – (which was fine, but the whole time I was thinking…”but Zoe said the red one!”)
loading...
its really super bright! that’s how its meant to be!
loading...
thanks anon – but some block out goggles to make it less weird wouldn’t go astray
loading...
I tried omnilux on Saturday. The light was so bright that I wanted to turn my already closed eyes away, but I couldn’t. So I just imagined I was lying on the beach on a really sunny day, when you can still see the sun when your eyes are closed. That’s what it was like.
It hasn’t turned me off. I signed up for 8 more sessions!
loading...
It can be a bit full on the first few times. You will get used to it, even if it feels like you need to close your already closed eyes. I am given tiny plastic eyepod (Zzzzing!) goggles yes, but have gone without. I also once ate soup with a fork though, so I’m pretty out there.
loading...
Zoe – Omnilux sounds magical, only I can’t access it where I am. How do you feel about the hand-held devices that ‘claim’ to do the same thing? Good? Bad? Borderline skin-suicide?
(PS I’m sure you will be the glowing-est lady on the red carpet this weekend.)
loading...
Zoe herself has one! I read about it in another post
loading...
Is anyone else tempted to just pop down to bunnings and buy some coloured light bulbs?
loading...
This all souds lovely and it’s a great insight into prep for such an event. I’d love to be able to have one of those Omniluxy thingies but what I really want to know is:
What is the best thing a gal can do to improve / enhance her skin before an event? Bearing in mind that she must adhere to a tight budget and simply cannot aford such treatments as you outlined above. What are some relatively, even slightly cheaper things she could do for her complexion before a major event??… I have your book bwt, absolutely love it, it’s a bible!
loading...
Drink a lot of water and eat vegetables! Seriously, your diet is the best thing you can do to ensure glowing skin.
loading...
totally agree with the water! And diet! But I also find exercise is fab as well for some reason….
loading...
Gets the blood flow going!! Healthy = beautiful skin.
loading...
Thanks MissT…Duh ofcourse! So simple but I guess these small things we so often over look can make a huge difference.
Tonight I am making a greek lamb cous cous salad which has lots of baby spinich and cherry tomatoes, so there’s some vegies. Also lately I have rediscovered herbal tea which is good way to increase your fluid intake.
Love your blog Miss T
loading...
Yes excerise too, I could definately do with some more of that.
Oh and tomatoes are really fruits but anway, still awesome for you.
loading...
That salad sounds divine! I’d love the recipe.
My trick for drinking a lot of water is to have a water bottle with you at all times. If it’s full, drink it. If it’s empty – fill it up! I get through 2-3L per day that way (your bladder will adjust).
And thank you! I love writing it.
loading...
This. Exactly. I fail at it on the regular, but there’s nothing like replacing sugar and carbs with veggies and protein when it comes to looking glowing and perfect. Nail those, and you can skip pretty much any beauty treatment, I think.
loading...
Very true Rachel!
Cheers Miss T, sound advice!

Zoe!
This comes at a perfect time for me. I am two weeks out from my partners Cricket Wind-Up (like a local version of the Alan Border Medal)
There will be plenty of dressed up, well off WAGS.
I have been having a couple of one off LARGE pimples come up and mark my skin. You have covered how to treat the marks, though I am wondering how to avoid it 2 weeks out on getting a new one?
I exfoliate everyday and moisturize…what would be some good facials to use before hand?
Also wear a very tight maxi dress…….how should I make sure I am not bloated out on the night?
loading...
I recently went to my partner’s end of season cricket function. Boy was I undersdressed (jeans and a jumper) some of the girlfriends went all out in mini dresses, hair extensions, the works.
loading...
They creep me out a little.
I find it so much easier to talk to the boys there! They are all so friendly!
loading...
In regard to the bloating, drink plenty of water, limit your salt intake (salt causes the body to retain fluid) and don’t eat any huge meals in the days leading up to your event.
loading...
I’m not an expert but I dont think you should exfoliate every day! I think it is recommended once or twice a week. It might be upsetting your skin hence the breakouts. Have fun at your event!
loading...
It’s a light facial scrub specifically for blackheads, and it says you can usually use everyday.
I normally dont have this random large pimple problem….but I may cut back and alternate with a light foaming cleanser…
loading...
Hi Maggie, try cleaning your back with physohex (not sure about the spelling) worked for me. Its from the chemist and usually used for acne.
loading...
When I get a few spare dollars I’m booking in for that Omni Revive business. Sounds very nice. As does the rest… Sigh.
loading...
This may have been covered elsewhere so advance apologies if I am being repetitive here but doesn’t Hamish live in Melbourne but then I read here that Zoe lives in Sydney? Or do they live in Sydney? Or is this none of anyone’s business? (This also used to confuse me about Megan Gale and Andy.) That flight down to Melbourne sounds like fun!
loading...
From my limited understanding – Zoe, feel free to jump in anytime here! – Zoe is based in Sydney and Hamish is in Melbourne and they split their time between the two.
loading...
Dear Zoe, I am very excited that you and your lovely fiance are going to the Logies. I am. But what I really want to know is:
How are you preparing for your WEDDING?
Are you going to wear your hair up or down? how are you going to have your make-up? have you embarked on a regiorous regime of facials? will you get a spray tan?
Please not I am asking you not in a creepy wanting to know everything about your wedding kind of way, I am just really interested to know what general look/style you will be going for.

Zooooooooooo-eeeeeeeeeee (in high pitched whiney voice)
I have just found out im pregnant (or as husband prefers- Duffed), and my skin has turned into a horrible dry itchy mess.
Honey is helping my lips- thank you- but how can i help this skin!?
I am currently using Dermalogica cleanser and toner for dry/combination skin, but it just isn’t cutting it anymore.
Help!
(PS- Is Omnilux Duffed-friendly?)
loading...
Hi Jess, not sure what Zoe will say on the omni-lux pregnancy thing but I’m a huge fan of Omnilux and did lots of research about it and pregnancy and it is not safe…
step away from the omnilux…
loading...
Hmmmmm. That is a fair bit of a worry considering I had Omnilux facials all through my pregnancy (well, until I was so whale-like that I could no longer lay on my back). Did wonders for my cranky-knocked-up skin…
loading...
My skin turned into a dry, itchy mess when I was pregnant too x 3times. I saw a dermatologist and needed a tube of Sigmacort Ointment (not cream) which calmed my skin down immensely. Its a mild cortisone cream which is safe for pregnancy. GP can also prescribe.
