The Australian Film Industry (AFI) Awards have a new name, they are now the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA). The reason for the revamp was to bring more awareness and attention to Australian films.
For the first time the awards also honoured American actors in an international ceremony, held in Los Angeles on the weekend and attended by Meryl Streep, Jean Dujardin (The Artist), Nicole Kidman and Geoffrey Rush. The Sydney ceremony was held last night, here is a list of all the winners and the looks from the red carpet.

OMG ASHER KEDDIE…
could you be any hotter woman. LOVE the dress/hair/make up…

omg, Cate looks divine… that dress is sensational on her. Don’t like Miranda’s the colour is too old on her

Love love Asher, Miranda, Magda, Rachael. Megan Gale gorgeous, gorgeous hair! Aussie chicks rock! I’m expecting great slamming for my next comment but Cate nearly always looks boring and frumpy on the red carpet….
She has tickets on herself big time – great actress but stylish – NOPE!

RED DOG IS THIS A JOKE UGH

Any chance you could run some more shots of the winners or people from the nominated films at least? I kind of get annoyed with all the pics coming through (not just on mamamia) of people like Miranda Kerr and Megan Gale – who look lovely, for sure – when the night was meant to showcase acting/film/TV.
On another note, so glad Snowtown did well, it’s an incredible film.

Rachel Taylor always looks stunning, but my fave is Cate Blanchett. That woman literally glows! Magda also looks amazing.

My vote for best dressed goes to to Magda Szubanski (who woulda thunk?) ….followed by Cate Blanchett close second

omg megan gale! Could someone be more beautiful?!

she is striking there’s no doubt about it
but something about her always seems so ‘showy’. Always swishing her hair around and striking a pose. She doesn’t seem very real to me.

I know what you mean but I think no-one is more posey and hair swooshy than Miranda Kerr. Pretty face gorgeous body but abit vacant if you
know what I mean.

Nicole Kidman is now named Meryl Streep?

We watched a few minutes but then the nausea kicked in and we simply had to turn it off. It was such a dreadful spectacle IMO!! To take nothing away from the movies and people who deserved awards, but the show on TV was inane and provincial. Bleuch.

I didn’t realize Miranda Kerr was an actor as well….

Asher Keddie and Megan Washington and Rachel Taylor, gorgeous.
I have a crush on Alex Dimitriades. That is all.

This is TOTALLY gratuitous, but my good friend Anna produced the film “Snowtown” and I am SO thrilled it won four major awards! It’s an amazing piece of work…. even if I did have to watch it through my fingers and with my husband’s hand in a death-grip.

Snowtown is the best Aussie movie I have seen for years and years. And the only one that I have seen to portray suburban poverty so honestly, sans NIDA-bogan accents.

Cate Blanchett and Asher Keddie are my favourites of this well dressed bunch.
Alex Dimitriades and his partner have a little bit of an awkward lean going on.

Wow! The Aussies KILLED the Americans in the red-carpet style stakes this week! To anyone who says that Australian fashion is not relevant or innovative: look at this gallery!
Megan Gale looks amazing. The best I’ve seen her look in the last few years. In fact, everyone looked really beautiful.

We must think alike katherine, because i was thinking the exact same thing as I flicked through the gallery of photos. I am assuming that most of the wardrobe was Australian designers, if so they really are up there with the best of them.
If I had to choose though Asher Keddie and Megan Gale the best for me.

WOW – there’s barely a bad look in there. Well done to our stunning Aussie girls!
loading...
Absolutely agree – gave me a sense of Australian pride!
Love the looks of Asher, Cate, Rachel Taylor and Samantha Harris.

Is that really Miranda Otto? She looks….different
loading...
I’m pretty sure it’s Gracie not Miranda.
loading...
And it’s Tasma Walton not Tasman.

Thanks Katyberry & nmk & ladybug!

Asher Keddie is always in a nice dress!
