After 17 years, Sophie Monk tells what happened when an ex-Bardot member stole from her.

With Sophie Monk reigning Queen of the Bachelorette, it was interesting timing for an ex-Bardot member to come forward and admit why she was pushed out of the band.

To recap: Chantelle Barry was originally part of the group but left a few weeks after formation for reasons that no one ever quite knew…

Until her recent interview with Woman’s Day, where Barry admitted that she was stealing from her friend and colleague, Monk.

Talking with Kyle and Jackie O this morning, Monk confirmed the rumours were true.

“I know,” she said. “We were on $25 a day and I was living off that money…I had no money to buy food or anything.”

“She collected my money for me and then the way we found it, it was in the garbage bin was the ‘Sophie’ envelope without the money in it.”

The 37-year-old actually said she had incredible compassion for Barry, who just made a stupid decision.

“We had to [confront her] because we also found other stuff. The funny thing is, I was the only one who wanted to keep her in the band. I really liked her and people go through things, and I thought she was so talented. We all do stupid things.

“She was so great at singing and dancing. She had everything.”

The aspiring singer said she was given $1000 to leave quietly, with the deal she signed preventing her from telling her side of the story when the allegations were aired by Australia's media.

Barry has since moved on. In 2001 she relocated to LA and later played a small part in the remake of 90210, starred in a TV show called Miss 2059 and had some other roles voice acting.
