Best and worst of the week (Jan 20)

Chatting to Mia (and looking very short due to the camera angle) during the Welcome to Australia shoot.

Happy Friday! It’s already the end of the third week in January and I’m once again shell-shocked at how fast the year is passing us by. It seems 2012 is even speedier than 2011 – who knew it was even possible?

Anyway, welcome to another round of best & worst, which I’ve hijacked today to tell you all about the week I’ve been having.

Best: I know it’s not nice to brag, but bear with me for a minute, because yesterday was just such an amazing day for me and everyone at MM HQ. Welcome to Australia is a great cause (that we’ve written about before here) and we were lucky enough to get the opportunity to film a commercial for Harmony Day on our balcony. We shared wine, lollies and stories while watching the sunset with some truly inspirational people, including Jessica Rowe and human rights activist Samah Hadid. It was an amazing evening, made even better by the fact that Lucy, Rick and I all got to sneak into the background of the shoot – look mum, I’m on TV!

Plus a big shout-out has to go to the film crew, who all took time out from their busy schedules to volunteer to shoot the commercial. Great stuff.

On a slightly more selfish note, I also did my very first ever radio interview with 4BC in Brisbane yesterday afternoon, based on this article. I was super excited although I think all my family and friends (and even the lady at the coffee shop) probably wish I would stop talking about it now.. but whatever, I was on the radio!

Worst: Holidays are over and that means reading time is over. With work and uni back on track, I never have time to pick up anything that’s not a textbook until July rolls around. I’ve got The Marriage Plot sitting on my bedside table begging to be finished – it’s horrible. It seems like such a first world problem, but when do people get the time to just sit down and read anymore?

That’s all from me this week – what’s on your mind?

What were your best and worst bits of the week?
