BREAKING: police lay charges over vile racist attack in Brisbane

UPDATE: Two men, aged 17 and 18, have been charged by Queensland Police over a racist attack on a Brisbane train.

The 17-year-old has been charged with two counts each of assault occasioning bodily harm and creating a nuisance on a railway and one count each of threatening violence, common assault and using a carriage service to menace or harass. The 18 year old has been charged with one count of creating a nuisance on a railway.

Both men are due to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court tomorrow.

The attack took place at the start of the month, but video has only recently been uploaded to the internet – triggering outrage from across the country. The video depicts a sickening racist attack on a security guard named Joe at Indooroopilly Station, in Brisbane.

The vile outburst was triggered when the guard asked the man to take his feet off the train seat.

The passenger, who appears to be intoxicated, can be heard repeatedly calling the guard a “n***er” and a “black c***”.

The racist attack has caused outrage across the internet

The young man yelled, “Learn some f***ing English, because this is Australia, c***, I can’t understand you.”

The tirade continues with the man saying: “Do you even have a citizenship, you f***ing n***er?”

The victim of this vile attack has been identified as Joe, a security guard contracted to Queensland Rail

Other passengers can be seen looking on in disgust throughout the video, with two men stepping in to try to get the man off the train. The man then turned on them before his friend dragged him from the train.

The video was uploaded to the internet on Saturday and a Facebook page was immediately created to help find the perpetrator. Thousands shared the video, which racked up more than 1 million views, and Facebook discussion threads about the incident were swamped with comments.

Australian rapper Fortafy also shared the video, condemning the attack. His post was shared 28,000 times.

Prime Minister Tony Abbott described the behaviour as “un-Australian”, and Queensland Premier Campbell Newman said he had spoken with Joe, the security guard to express his “absolute disgust”.
