Well that got your attention, didn’t it? And now that we have it, we have some questions for you.
Do you eat vegetables? Do you eat the green ones? Do you ENJOY eating the green ones?
The answers to those questions are of course: yes, yes and no.
If you answered yes to the third question, you were either imagining those vegetables covered in delicious flavoursome things like creamy cheese sauces, garlic and chilli and a considerable amount of oil OR you were lying. I’m going to presume the former because we know Mamamia readers are nice as pie (pie of the non vegetable variety).
The point is: vegetables don’t taste great but they’re good for you. Very good for you. And with a bit of imagination you can make a less than exciting culinary experience, rather fabulous.
And so is the case with this video.
Its fabulous creators have taken a topic that doesn’t really rock everybody’s socks – the history of the English language – and added the delicious toppings of humour and cute cartoons to make it totally digestible (and watchable…)
It is quite wonderful. And by the end of it your head will be SO FULL OF NEW KNOWLEDGE that you will be able to impress your contemporaries for weeks on end with your extensive understanding of the language which we all speak-eth.
You’re welcome:

I have to admit the link between green veggies and this video elude me, but I enjoyed the video and I actually enjoy green veggies.

Peas are small, green and evil. So are green beans, just not as small.
The rest I’m fine with.

I love vegies. Not lying, don’t coat in sauce or cheese.
I also love British humour. And this video.

Well, to keep running with the metaphor; that video should keep me regular.

Loved it! Clever & funny. Thanks!
There’s another illustrated clip like this about exercise called 23 and 1/2 hours, also awesome: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aUaInS6HIGo

I love it. Can we have more articles on the English language please?
Specifically, how to use your and you’re, their, there and they’re and the correct use of apostrophes?!
Oh and spelling. I saw someone, a teacher no less, spell ‘hierarchy’ as ‘highraci’ on facebook the other day. Dismal.
It’s not the over sharers, the whingers or the serial posters that get me down on social media. It’s those who metaphorically defecate all over our language. And still expect to be taken seriously.

Mandy. You’re awesome.

‘Metaphorically defecate’. Love it.
BTW, the video rocked. too. Teachers, sit them down and make them watch it. Ten minutes you won’t regret.

While we’re at the english lesson, can you also please decipher the mystery of the clitoris?
loading...
What about the clitoris do you find particularly perplexing anon?!
loading...
Now that you mention it…
Let’s just start by saying that I know where it is, so I don’t need an anatomy lesson.
But why do some women like clitoral stimulation and others don’t? Is it the same as some people like having their feet rubbed and others don’t?
Why is it some women cannot orgasm through intercourse but can through clitoral stimulation? Conversely, why do some women only orgasm with penetration?
These and other similar questions are the reason behind my perplexation regarding the clitoris.
I bet you’re sorry you asked now
loading...
The answer to all of your questions is:
everyone is different!
Not everyone likes choc mint ice cream, not every woman likes clitoral stimulation.
I have no idea what makes some people orgasm by different means, but that’s just the way it is!
I don’t think I’ve been very helpful…

Your = ownership (your yappy dog)
You’re = you are (you’re rude and nasty)
Their – ownership (their horrible child)
They’re = they are (they’re ugly bogans)
There = a place (I’d like to go there)
Apostrophes usually do 2 things : express ownership eg the bee’s knees, Mandy’s kids or they can show that something is missing Eg don’t, can’t, won’t are all contractions of do not, can not, will not and there are lots and lots of these in English.
So: I’m not going to your brother’s for Christmas, they’re there with their 3 horrible kids and you’re not going to tell me your brother will ever get them to behave. He won’t!
And I’m not even an English teacher …

Love your work Deb.

Very cute. But then again, I like english and vegies too. I combine them at my blog – http://www.vegiesmugglers.com.au – and I agree, sometimes it’s a stretch to get people to take the time to participate in stuff that’s more worthy. I’ve just been cooking up a (vegetable) curry with Dr Phil droning away in the background. He’s interviewing Dinah Lohan, who is apparently worth an hour of our time. And no doubt more people will watch that moronic interview than your fab 10 minute clip. Depressing.

I LOVE green veggies!!!! Seriously! Broccolini? Yum….
loading...
Me too!
loading...
Me too! What about crunchy steamed snowpeas, or even plain green beens? Yum!
I think that keeping them only JUST steamed and still crunchy is key!
loading...
Fabulous! Not only did I read it and watch it, I’ve also shared it!
Thanks.

I love green vegetables. Don’t know what that has to do with the video. But it’s a cool video all the same.

Ummm I quite like freshly steamed green veges especially broccoli and baby peas. I see what you were trying to do there but I’m not sure it worked. A bit clumsy
I also like stuff about language so in the end I’m happy with what came out of a clumsy beginning. Hooray!

lies! I actually DO enjoy all green veggies… Without sauces or laden with fat.
Honest.

And now I know why I love Vikings.
loading...
Actually, I DO enjoy them, and I ain’t lying nor cover them with honey! x
