The man who gave us Nutella has passed away.

Oh, Mr Ferrero, we have so much thank you for, you delicious genius. May you rest in peace.

Michele Ferrero, billionaire chocolate connoisseur and closest thing we’ve ever had to a real life Willy Wonka, has died in his Monaco home aged 89. His passing on Valentines Day seems almost cruel, as we sat and indulged in his chocolates on the most romantic day of the year.

We owe this guy A LOT.

His privately-owned firm is famous for its chocolate-hazelnut Nutella spread, Ferrero Rocher chocolates, Kinder eggs and Tic Tac sweets.

He’s given us a sweet-treat to our breakups, a companion during movie screenings and fresh breath before we kissed. This guy’s genius products have basically been present in some of our more intimate life moments.

And we’re thankful for all of this. And the fact they changed the name to Nutella (it used to be Giandujot… What.)

In memory of his legendary existence it’s only fair that we treat ourselves…

May the legend live on.

There are many ways to enjoy Nutella. Here are our favourites.
