As I watched the Olympic Closing Ceremony replay last night, I had two thoughts.

1. God I miss the Spice Girls. I must go and download their greatest hits on itunes. [small pause in thoughts while I did just that]

2. I can’t believe the Olympics are over for another 4 years!

Which led me to my next thought: where will I be when the Olympics is in Rio in 2016? Four years time. The first thing that popped into my head were my kids and how old they would be at the next Olympics: 8, 10 and 18.

Hold me.

Right now, that seems unfathomable. But during the LAST Olympics, in Beijing, I’d just given birth to my youngest son and that seems like the blink of an eye ago.

Funnily enough, I wasn’t the only one looking into the future in wonderment, trepidation and slight horror. The Twitter hashtag “#MyAgeForRio2016″ was trending around the world as everyone looked not so much to Rio as into a crystal ball.

twitter Where do you want to be in 2016?

So.

Where do you think you’ll be in 2016, the next time we’re debating who should carry our flag, whether athletes should be banned from social media and whether our swimmers will have shaken their Olympicus Horribilius and be cutting up the pool again?

More importantly, where do you HOPE to be? How old? Doing what? Where? And with who?

I’m quite a big believer in putting it out there so let’s.

I will be 42 (scary!). My little girl will be 4 years old & maybe still at preschool or about to enter school. I do hope to have had another child (only 1 more!) by then & maybe a house situation made clear to us. Hubby will be 44 & in laws will be 71 & 67 years old respectively. I just hope to be happy & healthy & Australia coming back with more GOLD :)

In four years time I will be 29. Which isn’t that scary because at least I’m still in my 20′s… right? Honestly though, age isn’t an issue for me but what I really want is to look back and see that I have achieved something memorable in the next four year period. I am in my final year at University and extremely uncertain about what I want to do once I graduate. I really hope in four years time I will have discovered myself more and found a path that I’m happy on. And I really hope to enter my 30′s with less insecurities and self doubt than I have had in my 20′s. I guess I’ll leave the rest up to fate!

I’ll be 39. My kids will be nearly 8. I was waiting for them to arrive during the last olympics so this one brought many bizarre feelings.

I hope to have completed some further study, be working in a new role – hopefully closer to home. Be able to be a great mum, with time for my kids, and have completed a 10km fun run by then.

On another note, looking at all the ages below, I feel quite old. Didn’t realise I was outside mamamia’s demographics…

I will be 40! And although that scares the hell out of me, I just realised that both my kids will be at school (they will be 8 and 5 and a half) and if I am still working part-time I will have a bit of “me time” again. So as much as I love my kids, that last bit sounds delightful.

I will be 32. I will have finished my undergraduate, and hopefully back working on my PHD, and hopefully that will be overseas – I have my heart set on the US, but it’s kind of going to be a toss of the coin.

Sadly I honestly think that there will be no man and no kids in that time, but I’m coming to terms with that.

I was 13 when the Sydney games were on – still one of my favourite memories, going to so many events & soaking up the atmosphere. Ian Thorpe was 17 and racking up gold medals by the day. I did my calculations and figured that I’d definitely get at least one medal in Athens – I mean I always went to the regional swimming carnival so I’d qualify for the Olympics, right?

I realised yesterday that I was in year 12 during the Seoul Olympics and my daughter has been in year 12 during the London games.

By Rio, all my children will be out of school. They will be 22, 21 and 18. I will be 45, husband will be 48.

I cant imagine life free of school fees, but look forward to it so much.

Mostly I hope the next 4 years for my children are navigated with safety, with happiness and most importantly good health both physically and mentally. I hope the oldest two have made it through the final teen years with enough resilience and wisdom to get them through the relationships of their early twenties and I hope my youngest son, does his best in his final years of school, is safe on the roads (like his brother and sister) and they all still have their Grandparents and loved ones to turn to.

I hope that the gap between wealthy people and the disadvantaged narrows, but if it doesnt, I hope that those with the means can help those who dont have them. Not necessarily just with money, but with time and kindness.

Also, front page of Who magazine sometime in the next 4 years “George Clooney heartbroken after passionate but short affair with Aussie mother of 3″

We will be on the cusp of paying big fat school fees the year after, so it is my completely materialistic wish that I have a ensuite bathroom by then and dont have to share they joys of having 1000 various pieces of plastic crap and soggy facewashers sharing the same shower floor as me. i would love to have had an excuse to revist London by then too.
On a deeper note parents will be well and truely ensconsed into their late 70′s so my greatest wish is that they are still a part of our life.
I would like to have my name on the front of a book and a swag of cool creative credits under my belt. I also wish for that belt to be around a fit foxy and slim waist!!
