Introducing: Mamamia's new Editor, Holly Wainwright.

Holly Wainright.

After almost two years in the job, yesterday was my last as Editor of mamamia.com.au. As of this morning I have officially handed over the reigns of this magnificent beast of a website, to the very able Holly Wainwright.

Holly was previously Editor of the Mamamia Network’s parenting website iVillage and before that worked as Deputy Editor of OK! magazine. She is mother to Matilda, 4 and Billy, 2.

Many of our readers will already be familiar with Holly because her writing appears regularly on Mamamia. Holly’s clever, authentic and irreverent style are the perfect match for the Mamamia brand.

Holly has proven herself to be a formidable editor and online strategist, making the far-from-easy transition from print to digital in January this year. After a lengthy search for the right person to fill this role externally, we decided that Holly was the only woman for the job.

The fact we decided to fill the Editor position from within our existing team, is reflective of the phenomenal success and ground-breaking work of the Mamamia Network. We are building a brand and way of operating that is unrivalled, and doing so with significant success.

In the past two years, Mamamia’s readership has grown by 800% and our social media following by even more. The Mamamia Network has successfully launched two more websites – parenting website iVillage Australia and beauty and health website The Glow – expanding our audience and influence.

Our founder, the incomparable Mia Freedman put a tremendous amount of faith in me two years ago by allowing me to edit her ‘baby’ and I hope I’ve been able to do even a tenth as good a job as she did.

Mamamia has changed considerably, evolving from a personal blog to a women’s website that provides a platform to hundreds of women’s voices and influences social debate and commentary nationwide.

The Mamamia Network is leading the Australian online market in delivering quality content, building communities and communicating with an engaged audience.

Last week, Mamamia set another readership record, with more than 1.5 million unique browsers logging on to read our content on their lap-tops, smart phones and tablets; an average of more than 300,000 per day.

This success is due in no small part to Mamamia’s outstanding team of writers, who so willingly share their brains and hearts with the readers every single day. It’s been a privilege to manage such a committed and brilliant group of women.

I will be looking longingly over Holly’s shoulder for some time, as I move to the role of Editor-in-Chief across the Mamamia Network websites. Congratulations to Holly and the very best of luck.

You’ll have the chance to get to know Holly Wainwright better in our Open Post next week, where she will be doing a Q and A session with our readers.
