nissan heels High heels arent just hard to walk in

Did you know if you have a car accident while you are wearing your High Heels in NSW, you could be considered the ‘at fault’ driver, even if technically you weren’t? I KNOW RIGHT! It sounds like insanity, but here are the facts:

“If an accident was to occur and it was found that the cause of the accident was due to inappropriate or lack of footwear an offence under the Road Rules 2008, Rule 297 – Drive without proper control of vehicle, may be implied by the authorities.

The rule of drive without proper control of vehicle may include the wearers of high heel shoes, stilettos, bare feet and any other footwear if it is found that a driver was to drive without proper control of a vehicle.”

So then, it appears that I really need to reconsider my clogs. I know they didn’t mention clogs per se  but let’s face it, they already commit a crime to fashion, I really shouldn’t be pushing it by potentially committing a real one.

But why do we women wear heels in the first place? I mean, they aren’t comfortable. They aren’t mandatory and they certainly aren’t the inexpensive option. In fact, I’ve got double jointed hips and although this might sound like a total bonus, it’s not all that impressive when they involuntarily click out while wearing 6 inch heels and falling directly on your face in a busy city street.

So remind me again why we love to wear heels?

We wear them because they make our legs look KICK ARSE. That’s why. They are sexy, they give us height and they often give us confidence. Unfortunately they also give us varicose veins and as is evidenced by recent studies, a higher chance of having a god awful accident on the road if we happen to be wearing them when driving.

Studies show  10% of women surveyed admit to having a motor vehicle accident due to their heel getting stuck and leaving them unable to control the pedals in their car. I myself have a stiletto heel sized tear in the carpet on the driver’s side of my car that my high heel gets trapped in from time to time. So why do I drive in them?

nissan 380x464 High heels arent just hard to walk in

Get a free pair of flats when you purchase a Nissan DUALIS ST manual

I’ll tell you why, because I’m lazy.  I cannot be bothered changing shoes or remembering to take along another pair as I fly out the door of a morning.

But seriously, how hard is it? And with four out of five women – that’s 80% of the female driving population, admitting to wearing inappropriate footwear and putting themselves and other innocent drivers at risk, perhaps it’s time we thought about better choices.

So I am making a conscious effort to wear my flats from now on in. Simple really.

Now excuse me. I have a meeting with some clogs and a dumpster.

Nissan has teamed with Sambag to make driving a manual easier and more stylish than ever. Purchase a DUALIS ST Manual from $25,990 driveaway and you can claim a free pair of stylish Sambag  flats valued at $175. So kick off your heels and get into your  Nissan Dealer today. HUH? Since when is going barefoot while driving dangerous??? And HOW is it dangerous? It’s not.

I *always* go barefoot when I drive. I take my right shoe (or both shoes) off when driving because I feel safer driving barefoot & feel more in control of the pedals with no shoes on.

    Such baloney.

haven’t finished reading this, cos I stopped at “BARE FEET”.. how is this dangerous??? I wear thongs in summer, and I consider thongs more dangerous than bare feet as they can move around and get stuck under the pedals.. how are bare feet gonna get in the way? what I am supposed to do, keep driving shoes in the car?

I hope that stupid law is only peculiar to NSW, but then again heels are so much safer than bare feet aren’t they! I don’t care, I’ll drive barefoot if I have heels regardless. I just chuck the shoes aside til I get wherever.
I’ve got some lower chunky heels for work, but generally wear flats there anywayas well as at home. I do have some lovely heels, but don’t wear them often.
I have no idea how I wore them all day in the 80s and worse, even ran while wearing them.

I wear heels at work because I can’t find any nice, comfortable flats that look good with my outfits and skinny legs but aren’t designer (and so expensive).

The heels I wear are reasonably practical (not super high and not stiletto) and since I always wear the same pair, I have driving in them down pat.

But if I’m not going to work (I only work 1 day a week) you’ll almost never catch me wearing heels, much less driving in them!

I almost always drive in thongs, though. I can’t stand barefoot and feel like I have more control in thongs than any other shoes – I had no idea this was bad! But my thongs have excellent grip and sit quite firmly to.my feet, they never flip or flop.

I always drive barefoot and I don’t understand how this is more dangerous than shoes. I can feel the pedals, my feet don’t slip and there is nothing to catch on the mat or the pedal. And I never ever drive in heels – aparty from not being able to use my feet properly, driving in heels ends up ruining them.

I so ridiculously short I wear heels when I go out. However, I always those fold up flats in my bag with me so I can walk from place to place more easily. It’s so annoying, I love the classic stiletto pumps but I can never walk in anything too high- I just trip and stumble. Yes I like the way heels make my legs and butt look. But I hate the way they make my feet feel.

I’ve worn heels at my wedding (for the first hour so I actually appeared in the photos with my 6foot4 husband..we were both barefoot at the reception cos we hate shoes lol) and my 30th (again, to appear in photos with my husband).

“So remind me again why we love to wear heels?”

I always thought it was because standing in high heels forces you to stand with breasts out, bum out and the calf muscle raised so as to simulate running away (thus inviting pursuit).

Perhaps I’m looking at it from far too much of a primal angle ;) .

I just got a new car. Sorry, it’s not a Nissan! I bought a used Citroen DS3. It is my ‘mid life crisis car’. I’ve been driving a ‘mum-mobile’ for soooo long. I’m not upset with those cars at all, but you know what, I just wanted to drive a bit of ‘fun’. My Citroen is cute, dare I say ‘funky?’ That shows my age! Although it’s a five seater, it only has two doors and thankfully at this stage of my life it is all that I need. And looking not so forward into the future it will be a good car for my daughter to learn to drive in. (Five star safety rating – my inner mum!!)

I was secretly pumped when TWICE this week, people double looked at my car, and not because of the way that I parked it! Although it is small, it has parking sensors! Lovin’ that! It is just a cool looking car!

In the meantime, I am cruising, listening to my ipod musicand re-living my youth in a car that suits me and my family whoo-hoo!!!! I’m a happy camper – in reasonable shoes of course!

I always wear flats in the car and change into my heels when I get to my destination because
    a) the heels damage the carpet (or in my case floor mats) in my car
    b) it causes pressure to be placed on the heels incorrectly (i.e. the side of the heel is pushed onto the floor on an angle) and I don’t want to damage my heels!
    c) I like to limit my time in heels in order to reduce the amount of pain incurred by them (I do have a fetish for super high heels)
On the odd occassion I’ve driven in heels I didn’t feel it hindered me but I try to make provisions to make sure I avoid it just in case!

As someone still learning to drive I can vouch that barefoot is so much better. I can actually feel how much pressure I need to apply to the accelerator and brake. Before when driving in shoes I either applied too much pressure or not enough because I couldn’t get a feel to it.

She was coming up behind me at an intersection, and “missed the brake and hit the accelerator” in her v8 ford ute with mahoosive bullbar. Sure, her dinky little kitten heels were cute… But I’d rather she hadn’t worn them and I hadn’t ended up in hospital.

Another reason women wear heels? You have to be really determined to find classy dress shoes that aren’t heels! I remember trying once, as I walk *really* badly in heels, and don’t wear them, except very small ones when dressing formally (wedding, etc.). I couldn’t find anything I liked that I didn’t want to chop at least half the heel off, until I’d been through several shops over the course of nearly an hour!

To put this in perspective… I walked into a shop to buy shoes for my wedding, explaining that I *didn’t* *do* *heels*, but had to, or my dress would be too long and trip me over. The very kind and understanding shop assistant immediately brought a pair of shoes that had a heel with good cross-sectional area (I’d've said a flat no to a stiletto!), and *just* high enough for requirements. Tick!! I took two (wobbly!) steps in them, and she said, “Well, if you’re *really* not comfortable in heels….” and headed out back again! LOL! I ended up with a type of shoe called “Xena”, and my bridesmaids and I toyed with the idea of doing the war cry walking down the isle!!

Can’t comment about the driving thing, as I have neither car nor licence. Main way I’ve heard about the ‘inappropriate footwear’ thing is through discussions of whether my brother should be driving barefoot or in thongs!! (many years ago, when he was still learning – I think he’s changed his practice as a driver of a people mover, and father of 4!)

P.S. Just read other comments. Yes, I think the thing about thongs compared to barefoot was that my dad (a cop, and his driving teacher) preferred him to remove thongs and drive barefoot, but would really rather he wore more substantial footwear. However, I think it was a losing battle at the time – he loved going barefoot, in thongs, or in volleys! This is over a decade ago, though, and since I’m 7 years younger, I don’t remember the overall conclusions of these discussions.

Add to that the professions where heels are expected and flats frowned upon – law for example. Or anywhere a woman is expected to wear a suit. Now that I’m in libraries and on my feet a lot of the day, I’m back to mostly-flats. And boy do I NOT miss the days of running across town in heels because I had to get documents to court!

So, I’m one of the few women who don’t wear heels, at all. The few times I tried I was so bad at walking in them, and I just don’t see the point.
I do, however, drive barefoot. I don’t understand that part of the law because I drive a manual and drive so much better when there aren’t shoes between me and the pedals. Can someone please explain the harm in this?

I was wondering the same thing Profiterole. And what about thongs? I mean, what IS the “appropriate” footwear then?

Profiterole, I think you just wrote my post for me!

Didn’t know I was in the minority. 80% of women drive in heels?? Wow…a little hard to believe.

Barefoot – sooooo much better than most footwear choices, but alas, I have heard it is (or has been at some stage) illegal in some states to do so. Rather do that than drive in my thongs!

I want to know the answer to driving in thongs/flip-flops too! Is that allowed?? I drive in thongs all the time & always think it’s a mildly hazardous choice of footwear…!! Xx

I said it above, but I’ll say it here too.
Bare feet can get sweaty and slippery and don’t grip the pedals.

Yeah but.. my feet don’t get sweaty (especially when they’re not wearing shoes).
Then okay, by that logic, what about wet shoes when it’s been raining?
