gone with the wind 380x270 If Scarlett OHara could text...

Clark Gable and Vivien Leigh as Rhett and Scarlett in Gone With The Wind

Frankly my dears, you should give a damn about this. A few of us here at Mamamia are fans of Gone With The Wind and when we stumbled across this little series of imaginary texts between Scarlett O’Hara and the other characters – we just had to share.

(Thanks to The Hairpin for the giggles).

This is Scarlett and Ashley:

ashley
ashley
ashley
ashley r u there?
ashleyyyyyyyy
im drunk (from brandy)
remember that time we made out in the barn?
Scarlett, it’s four in the morning and I have to get up in two hours to run your mill
Please don’t text me this late
oh i sold the mill  haha
did i not tell you that?
Oh my God.
did you know that pantalets are out this year
that’s why im not wearing any
icon wink If Scarlett OHara could text...
OH MY GOD

Scarlett and Rhett (our personal favourite):

Rhett
Rhett
Hello, Scarlett
what r u doing?
Still in jail, I’m afraid
UGH
i want to go out and no one can go out
I’m sorry to have inconvenienced you, my dear
i am so so so bored
Bored, my dear? With a mind like yours?
That’s something even I can’t imagine.
is that a joke
I can assure you I am quite serious
ur making fun of me
this is exactly why ur not received

Scarlett and Melanie:

Darling, I was going through some old things this morning
and found Charles’ ornamental officer’s sash
I thought you’d like to have it
So I gave it to Mammy for cleaning and she’ll give it to you later
who is charles?
Scarlett, how you joke!
was he that guy…?
I know it pains you to speak of him — that’s why you act so high-spirited about it, and I think it’s simply marvelous of you. But you don’t have to be brave with me, Scarlett dear.
that guy with like the chin thing?
I miss him too.
guess what i turned my mourning gown into?
But I know he’s looking after us — always.
i made four backless shimmies out of it

Scarlett and Mammy:

mammy
mammy r u up?
What is it, Scarlett
do we have any of that chocolate stuff left, with the swirls on it?
I don’t know, Scarlett
can you check
Honey, I’ll get it for you just as soon as the doctor lets me get out of bed
He says the typhoid is awfully bad this spring
what even is typhoid
It’s nothing
I’ve got a little touch of it is all
but I’ll be fine, don’t you worry
haha omg ur gonna get so thin
my waist is like nineteen inches already im a whale
listen to me talking about that chocolate stuff
don’t let me have any!!!
All right
ok no but seriously bring me like one jar
just one though

Are you a fan of Gone With The Wind? GREAT! Let’s talk. Is Scarlett the hero or is Melanie? Do you think this is how Scarlett would act if she lived in the 21st century? Who else would you like to see Scarlett text?

I love Gone with the Wind!
But my most favourite book in the world is ‘Scarlett’ by Alexandra Ripley!! It is the sequel to ‘GWTW’…
I work at Vinnies and bought my copy of ‘Gone With the Wind’ there……. It’s a book that’s dog-eared and has so manypages falling out…. I LOVE IT! I love how it’s re-loved’ (second hand) as well!

Scarlett O’Hara and India Wilkes are now residents of Twelve Oaks Twilight Home. Though Scarlett has had more husbands than Elizabeth Taylor, she still pursues Rhett Butler. Meanwhile, India has presented Scarlett with a copy of He’s Just Not That Into You.

    Scarlett to India

GBOF India Wilkes! I need yr advice NOT!

    India to Scarlett

It’s no use Scarlett. Remember FMD, I don’t give a damn? Sexting Rhett now is worse than parading around in public without yr shimmy!

Scarlett ponders…I can’t think about this now, I’ll go mad if I do. I’ll think about this 2moro.

Have loved GWTW forever and spent many a coversation trying to convince other people that it’s pure social commentary gold.

Wonder how many friends each of them would have on fb?

Melanie would have the most friends………. not that she deserves them. Or maybe the TArlton twins, because in my head they are very very very hot.

Melanie would have alot for sure, but she would be the one “requesting” friends, she is so needy. She would be one of those vague bookers too, “oh found a flirty text on Ashley’s phone today, should I be concerned??”

I pity Melanie cause she was such a pushover… Everyone walked over her. Scarlett you can’t help but love and hate… She is so stupid yes a true kardashian! Rhett is the hero and I am still devastated at the end. Best book ever!!!!!

Every time I read this I start crying in the final chapters because I know it isn’t going to work out for Scarlett and Rhett and that I’ll never find out if they end up together. We should have MM-ers book club.

Love Gone with the Wind & love to hate Scarlett! Melanie is no hero but neither is Scarlett. I think Rhett’s the hero but I still wish he was with Scarlett….

I have a recurring dream where Rhett proposes to me.

I think that Melanie is the true hero. She was not physically strong but had great intelligence, tact and wisdom and genuinely put others before herself – the polar opposite of Scarlett. I am struggling to think of a modern day equivalent, but coming up with many of them for Scarlett – starting with just about any of the Kardashian krew.

Melanie is so kind and deserves better than the wet blanket she’s married to.
I think Mammy is a legend for putting up with Scarlet for all these years.

If Scarlett were around today she’d probably be like Paris Hilton or the Kardashians.
The most beautiful belle in the county deserves her own show (but I don’t think she’d have a sex tape because Pa wouldn’t tolerate that).

Agree, and Mammy or Prissy (most likely Prissy) would sell their tell all story to the media revealing juicy gossip like what size corset Scarlett REALLY wears.

Prissy would write a tell-all biography with explosive never-before-told insider secrets and nude photos. And I would buy it. Shame on me :-)
