When you’re watching the news most evenings, you don’t usually give more than a passing thought to the caption underneath the picture of the reporter.
Most of us are more interested in what’s being said and what’s going on visually and we don’t pay much attention to anything else. But maybe we should.
Because every now and then, the news-makers get those captions wrong. Oh so very wrong.
Thanks to Funny or die, here are the 17 funniest descriptions of interview subjects the news has ever broadcast.
Take a look. You can thank us for the laughs later.

type of humour….

i laughed out loud at all of these! dont know why no one else seemed to find them funny!

Gave me a giggle – many were very ‘Simpsons’- esque in their bald statement of fact. “Saw a big cat” – brilliant!

Sorry for the double comment – tried to edit my typo.

Have me a giggle – many were very ‘Simpsons’- esque in their bald statement of fact. “Saw a big cat” – love it!

Sorry guys…I was hoping for a good laugh but didn’t even get a slight giggle. And I don’t get why there had to be a photo of Karl and Lisa there…although I am fans of them I don’t feel that a pic of them is necessary. Much better since you put an actual screen cap as the title pic but still…
Sorry…not a fan of this one!

Natalia I thought it was funny

Lol I laughed! I liked the big cat one it’s so random.
Haters gonna hate!

So “Because every now and then, the news-makers get those captions wrong. Oh so very wrong.”
What exactly did they get wrong? Apart from an 11 instead of II every caption appeared to be the correct caption for a stupid story.
Perhaps this should have been titled “Stupid Stories Covered on TV News”

Lighten up people. This is really funny. How can you not have a giggle at the poor victim of “kick of a ginger”??
These were great. Thanks Mia

How can you not have a giggle at “kick the ginger” ?
Very easily.

I’m really disappointed with mamamia this weekend. A massive news story occurs, a tragic shooting at of all things a cinema – something we all go to – yet you guys ignored it and chose your “media” story to be some lame jokes? My heart broke on Friday night hearing that this had happened. I woke up on both Saturday and Sunday hoping that you guys had covered it – I really wanted the chance to debrief and discuss it. I wanted to vent, to share my emotions. I’m so disappointed that you guys didn’t take the time to cover something so significant – so many people I know wanted a chance to share their feelings in any way.

Hey Beckala,
We have covered it. Our post is leading tomorrow’s line-up.
The posts we publish on weekends are pre-written as we like to TRY and have a wee bit of time off. Which is why we decided to hold until Monday.
I may bring it forward….
loading...
Apologies for my unjustified criticism then – I am really and truly sorry that I didn’t realise that that was why it wasn’t covered. Realise now on reflection that it makes complete sense – I’m so used to the weekend action with the comments I didn’t think about editorial. Apologies again.

*will be covering it (at the time of this post)

Go pick your nose if you want to be that picky!

Thanks for the Sunday night giggle!

oh dear. Not your finest story Mamamia. Misleading overstated headline?
loading...
You guys – we thought this was funny! Were we having a bad day? I think perhaps the problem is the headline which suggested a different kind of story.
Have changed the headline to better reflect the laughs….
loading...
I thought they were funny, not everything has to be serious all the time. It’s nice to have a laugh from time to time.
loading...
All laughs are greatly appreciated Mia and team! x

Geez ppl are so serious today! I thought it was funny. I want to know what happened with the suspicious flashlight tho!
World War 11 oh dear!
loading...
Oh so funny, anoher ginger joke.
loading...
Erm. Most of these are not funny – or ‘wrong’.
Fail.

slow news day then? yawn

I really loved last year when “Amy Parks” was reporting from “AAMI Park” so her name was directly under the title of the venue.
Can’t remeber what channel it was but someone took a photo of the tv screen as proof and i later saw it on a recap.

I remember that! Funny!!

Frontline changed the way we view TV news.

I’m reminded of the old line about no news being good news and one’s treasure can be anothers trash.
Not funny, sorry.
loading...
The only laugh I got was Mamamia’s caption on 12 – should have been “Meatball Enthusiast” but they’ve assigned it “Meatball Flashlight” – a mix up with the one previous.
Yes, as per below; lame, lame, lame.
Media Watch has better ones regularly – actual funny mistakes, not just lazy titles for inane stories!
loading...
Oh dear. This will not change the way I watch the news at all. More than a little lame…
loading...
Just an example of what garbage is classified as news these days.
loading...
Hahah I thought lots of those were funny! I would love to know more about the suspicious flashlight story! How did it become declared suspicious?! Bit surprised by the number of people who seem off kilter because they truly thought the way they watched the news would change forever?
loading...
Sorry but I concur with everyone below – not funny at all.
loading...
I’m not really sure how it’s going to change the way I’m supposed to watch the news. ???? I’m sorry, but that was pretty lame. Although the ‘suspicious flashlight’ did make me crack a smile.
loading...
Not wearing any pants, Meatball Enthusiast, ok. Kick a Ginger Day is funny? That’s horrible! People are arses.
loading...
Insert image of me with this caption.
“Still watches TV the same”
loading...
This was not funny. I didn’t crack a smile or even laugh inside my head.
loading...
Yeah, sorry, I was a bit confused by most of these wondering why they’re meant to be funny. Like the guy at the end “Jeff Foster- tired of birds”…. I presume that was what they were interviewing him about? Isn’t that a standard technique… that if the person doesn’t happen to have a specific/relevant job title… they summarise the person’s position on the interview subject matter for viewers tuning in halfway through?
Some of them were a bit sillier, like “Cool kid”, but still not life changing, sorry

These are the funniest?

I don’t think my news watching habits have been changed (Forever. ) by this gallery.
loading...
My viewing habits won’t even be changed just for tonight !
I note with interest that no one individual on the MM staff wishes to have their name associated with this article, but rather it is a team effort.
loading...
That’s because the article was a team effort, Bradley – you’ll find that happens regularly on articles that more than one person has helped put together! Oh well – each to their own.
loading...
It took several of you to cobble that together?!
loading...
I don’t think it’s necessary to get nasty, Claire.
loading...
Geez what’s up with everyone today? Sundayitis???
loading...
Natalia, I don’t think that Claire was being nasty. She was asking a question, albeit a question that you may not appreciate being asked. I’d say that several readers are asking the same question.
loading...
Bradley, perhaps I just read it in the wrong tone. Unfortunately, that’s the problem with the Internet – you can never be too sure of how someone meant to sound. We’ve taken everyone’s feedback and changed the headline so that hopefully it reflects the post a bit better. Hopefully now we can move on so that I can get some sleep
