Famine is the real obscenity. That’s why celebrities such as George Clooney and Colin Farrell have joined up with Bono to film this video for his anti-poverty group, ONE.
ONE is fighting the famine in the Horn of Africa and hopes that the video will bring attention to the food crisis there. On the video, Bono wrote: “ONE’s new film isn’t a typical emotional emergency appeal. It’s about focusing the media spotlight on the tragedy unfolding. It’s about building political support in the US and around the world for interventions that will stop the suffering today and break the cycle of famine in the future. Most of all, it’s about taking action — because famine is man-made.”
It definitely makes an impact. Watch it – and then send it to everybody you know.

Another org doing truly inspiring work in the Horn is Compassion International.
Very minimal spend on admin, and outstanding accountability. I’ve just visited 6 projects & totally impressed.

I’ve literally just touched down yesterday from Ethiopia & Kenya. The need is great.
All we need to do is whatever we can – together.
And thanks for the link ‘Sometimes Karen’

Loved this – my sister is a volunteer aid worker so we support her and this is our way of supporting these people. The situation in the Horn of Africa is a disgrace and exists to the shame of the world. My sister has seen things that no person should have to see, let alone that someone has to live through. Please donate, please help and please care about those suffering – for it is only by sheer luck that we were born here, in the lucky country.

(and a little U2 fan observation – it’s 20 years since the release of Achtung Baby, the album that gave us One. Goes quick, hey? Now go and donate!)
