My dad is the most difficult person to buy presents for. He has everything and leads a very simple life. So the presents we buy him on Father’s Day tend to be the same each year.
My biggest present fail with my dad was definitely the crappy tool box I bought him one year. It was made of hard plastic. I thought he’d love it. It turns out he’s a tool-box-snob and Snap On or similar should have been at the top of my list.
My husband, on the other hand, is easy to buy presents for – if money were no object! Everything he wants is expensive and he has hardly any free time. Kite-surfing-lessons? He was thrilled with this expensive gift but I booked his lessons for a location an hour’s drive away and he didn’t ever make it.
So I have done the hard work for you (and for me). I have laboured over this Father’s Day Gift Guide so you can choose something they will love. And if they don’t like the gift they receive, then the Darrell Lea Dad’s Bag should soften the blow. Socks on their own = crap present. Socks with a Darrell Lea Dad’sBag = brilliant present.
1. Adrenalin anyone?
What’s better than a day of race car riding or sky diving? A free pair of Bonds undies. Adrenalin has a great website offering all sorts of experiences and for Father’s Day the Bonds undies are included in the package. There are even land adventures like Quad Biking and Full Day Paint Ball. Prices vary depending on the experience with the website quoting possible prices as $0 – $1000! Love it.
2. A very unnecessarily high-powered torch
My husband’s favourite parenting tool is his unnecessarily high-powered torch. There’s no fumbling for light switches for us. When our children cry during the night I know I can keep sleeping if I hear my husband click his torch on because that’s how I know he’s happy to get up and tend to them.
It’s brighter than our actual lights and hurts when it shines in your eyes but it is his favourite toy. The one time he misplaced it he was a little panicky. The LED Torch Shop has a great online store. He’d probably prefer to browse because there are SO MANY different kinds of torches and they might be a little specific in what they prefer.
I bought my husband a nose-hair-clipper two years ago. I was sick of having to trim his nose hairs. He’d try to do it himself but struggled. He plucked one once and it became horribly infected. Manscaping is widespread these days and as long as he has the right tools he’ll do a good job of it and you won’t have to help him. After all, he doesn’t help you wax. Enter The Shaver Shop, one of my favourite places in the world and with a brilliant online store and specials for Father’s Day. For example, the Phillips’ Bodygroom Pro is only $69.95 and you can shop for yourself while you’re there.
4. Haviana Thongs in every colour (and permission to wear them daily)
Who else is excited that thong-season is almost here? My first black haviana’s of the season have arrived (I ordered two pairs) but this year I plan to be a little more adventurous and try some different colours. City Beach has haviana’s for men, women and kids and you can order online and they are priced from $26.99 – $39.99 depending on which style you choose. I’m a huge fan of the blue on black or the red on black.
Pro Sports Memorabilia has a tonne of legitimate merchandise and if I were, for example, shopping for a NRL Parramatta Eels fan (don’t worry, we’ll win some games next year) then I could purchase the Nathan Hindmarsh 300 Club personally signed and framed jersey for $899.10, including GST. A total bargain, don’t you agree? They have all teams and all sports and are even selling Olympic memorabilia and details for fundraising activities and appearances.

6. Amazon Kindle 3G from Dick Smith $215 (SAVE $34)
Who puts dad on the best sellers list? Dick Does. The Kindle 3G is the perfect gift for Dad this year. Easy to use, fits in your pocket and can hold up to 1400 books. Plus Dick Smith has it for their cheapest ever price, so everybody wins.
7. Enzo Silverlit Ferrari from Dick Smith $89.95
The gift for the grown up that never grew up. The Enzo Silverlit Ferrari is the ultimate big boy’s toy. It’s easy to setup and controlled by your iPod Touch, iPhone or iPad. Authentic Ferrari design and sound effects all add to the experience.
8. TOMTOM VIA 180 In-Car GPS from Dick Smith $149 (SAVE $100)
Who stops dad from driving you crazy? Dick does with the TOMTOM VIA 180 GPS. It has everything you’d expect plus loads of cool extras like voice control, hands free calling and advanced lane guidance. Even has a nice big 5” touch screen ideal for dad’s stubby fingers.
9. Radio Control Mini WRC from Dick Smith $24.95 (SAVE $15)
The gift for the big kid in every family. The radio control Mini Cooper sports rally car looks without the price tag. Super easy to drive and as one of Dick Smith’s most popular products it’s a sure winner with Dad.
10. SONY X Series Dock & Free SONY Portable Dock from Dick Smith $199
Who helps rock Dad’s socks off? Dick does. Get Dad this speaker dock that can play tunes from either his iPhone or iPod, plus get a FREE Sony portable dock. It’s a great affordable gift with a great bonus. Offers 360 degree sound plus charges your device at the same time. *iPod is not included.
As you can see Dick Smith has all sorts of awesome gifts for all sorts of dads. From the
big kid, to the adventurer, the couch potato or the high flying exec, Dick Smith have a gift for all types. For these great gifts and much more head to dicksmith.com.au and they can help you find the perfect present.

I hate fathers day, christmas and my husband and fathers birthdays.
they want nothing. they need nothing.
I scored the jackpot with the kindle (which he swore he’d ‘never’ use and is now permanently attached to his hand after 8pm) but other than that its socks and jocks.

I scour eBay for vintage books…my dad loves (in this order) ‘couta boats, sailing boats, vintage timber (I’ve bought him slabs of huon pine before) and talking about the weather. This year’s gift, first edition copy of ‘Maritime Meteorology’. Had it sent straight to him and he’s thrilled! Who could think of anything worse than maritime meteorology?

I’ve recently entered the age where all I get are bottles of grog or vouchers.
I’m always outwardly delighted by the presents I receive, but inwardly, I find the grog and vouchers to be lacking in effort and care.
Your Dad may feel the same way.
Inexpensive way to show that some thought went in:
Scan a picture or graphic of something significant to your Dad and whack it on acustomised t-shirt. Some artwork/photo from his child or grandchild etc.
Easy and a way to show that you care now that Pacific Brands (Bonds Undies) is about to go bust.
I used this mob for Mothers Day gifts this year:

We get dad socks. Every year. No fail.

I got halfway through this article before scrolling up and seeing in tiny print at the bottom of the pic that this was a sponsored post! It should be at the TOP!
Anyway my dad doesn’t eat sugar, has everything he could possibly need and doesn’t like presents. Maybe I’ll take him for lunch!

My poor dad tends to get the same stuff over and over too – poor dads always see to get ripped off because they are so damned hard to buy for! None of the stuff on this list would excite my dad. He normally gets chocolate gingers or chocolate coffee beans (the only choccies mum wont sneak!) and I saw a nice ‘all in one’ shampoo/ body wash from Keihl’s… So it’s looking like Body wash and chocolate. Bit sad and sorry but I’m seriously grasping at straws this year!

Some good suggestions, thanks.
It is clearly clarified that this is a sponsored post by dick smith so I expected the suggestions (and good ones) by them. But I am curious as to why you provide links to the adrenaline website, and city beach website?

My dad is impossible. He gets the same rotation of presents every few years. But I love those little minis! How cute. Definitely need two though, otherwise who would you race???

Every few years, Jamila? Geez, you’re dedicated.
Gifts for dad are on an annual cycle in my family – Men’s Health subscription (birthday), Bunnings voucher (Father’s Day), JB Hifi voucher (Christmas).
Occasionally, someone will decide to spice things up and get him some form of Homer Simpson merchandise as well. Those are special years.

Haha. My dad gets Homer stuff too.

Oh the torch is a good idea. Why do dad’s like such weird stuff???? My dad would got nutso for that torch.

I don’t mind some of these ideas. My dad is notoriously hard to buy for so thanks for the suggestions!

ARGH! My dad is the same, and sadly none of these will do. I got the kindle last year and thats really the only suitable one. He goes through phases of interests but at the moment he is interested in nothing – not sport, music, television anything!
The dad’s bag is always a winner though – now to find a darrell lea store…
loading...
THANK YOU! My Dad is hard to buy for as he is really eccentric, doesn’t read, etc. I got him a mug that says I LOVE DAD from Typo, and now to Darrell Lea for a Dad’s bag

We get my dad a dad’s bag every year and one year we didn’t and he was shattered
I always have to buy extra peanut brittle though.

Awesome ideas, thank you!!
I was wondering if any of you could help me- I’m a nanny for a gorgeous 13 month old, and I have no idea what to give to the father from his son… I gave the mother a painting the baby had done and had it laminated etc for mothers day… Can you think of something different for the dad? I’d be so appreciative of any help

Have a look on pinterest..heaps of ideas for kids father’s day presents!

Last year my girls gave their dad a “paper weight” made at kindy – it was basically a small block of wood, with their photo on one side, and the words “a chip off the old block” on the other. It was actually pretty cute lol

Getting the Ferrari for sure!

I always get my kids to make their fathers day gifts. Thought that counts and all of that! My dad still has my home made presents from primary school and treasures them

Screw my dad – I want the remote control car for myself!

A GPS saved my marriage. It really did.

I had ordered my husband a Kindle funnily enough from dick smith. Then I was home sick a week ago and he accepted the delivery cos he was home looking after 2 sick kids as well …. Happy early fathers day lol – but cannot source an amazon cover with the light that bends out – sold out everywhere.

Have you tried amazon.uk?
Big W had them last time I was there a few weeks ago.

Sorry guys, I know it’s a womens website but you learn a lot from Mamamia!
I got a kindle last fathers day and it is the best gift I’ve ever received.

One present that is easy to shop for, ALWAYS appreciated and hundreds of choices- magazine subscriptions! It is the present that keeps on giving and can suit a whole range of budgets. I used i-subscribe and they have a note to print off so you can put in a card with all the details. Great present for the man that has everything!
loading...
Yep, love that one. Have been on both the giving and receiving end (my older sister gives me a subscription to Rolling Stone magazine every birthday) and they’re excellent.

If anyones dad is a fly fisherman I found a great site

I’m getting my dad a beer. Easy peasy. Boring but he loves it.

My husband and my dad are getting a framed artwork each by our girls. Well, they did they original drawings and I know of a very clever lady who has a crafty business and she transforms kids drawings into gorgeous artwork. She has done a couple for me in the past and they are such treasured gifts.
loading...
That’s a fabulous idea! Any chance you’ll share the details?
loading...
of course! She’s a gorgeous lady and very talented.

i can vouch for the torch! i bought my dad a ridiculously high powered one last year (LED Lenser make great ones) and he loves it. and my dad NEVER likes anything!

I take my Dad to the movies every year, just the two of us. He rarely goes to the movies and when he does, he usually goes with my Mum, which limits what they see (Mum can’t stand to see any blood / violence / action / plot in a movie. Dad once ‘accidentally’ took her to see ‘Silence of the Lambs’. Me and my sisters weren’t allowed out for months afterwards). But when we go together he sees movies that I know he’ll like as we have roughly the same tastes. We saw ‘Inception’ last year and he kept calling me for weeks after to talk about it. Might go to Batman this year.
Easy to book online, don’t have to buy a gift, Dad doesn’t even like popcorn so I don’t have to shell out the price of a second movie ticket to get him some. Sorted.

Naww – that’s about the cutest thing I’ve ever heard!! I love that he kept calling you about it!! Just goes to show that sometimes the best pressies aren’t bought!!

Thanks!

I once bought the Darrell Lea Dad’s Bag for my husband but unfortunately got the munchies the night before and he received it with licorice products only…the rest had been eaten. I told him I bought him a special licorice products only one. Bad wife!

If anyone gets an Amazon Kindle — and you’re looking to buy a cover for it, get one that has a light. Brilliant for reading in bed!

That’s a problem I had too Bec! I bought mine and couldn’t read it in bed without the main light on!
