Lordy, Americans do this well, don’t they? It’s the celebrity public service announcement – this one conceived and executed by Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher and all sorts of celebrities…..
I saw a short bit of this on Rove last night and looked it up. Maybe it was my mood but my cynicism quickly turned to inspiration.
My favourites: Laura Linney with no make-up and Robyn Penn-Wright who is a magnificent woman. How many can you pick? Did you notice Soleil Moon Frye (ex Punky Brewster) and two of Demi’s daughters?
Anyway, I digress. I’m going to think about what I Pledge. What do you pledge?

Not cynical, realistic, Mia. My response was also tempered by the reports of the increasing carnage in the bushfire tragedy. Rather than being tearful, I was angered, horrified and scared. Scared that this could be happening to people, to people we know, and to people not far from where we live.
To then watch some Hollywood dude offering to turn a few lights off was almost obscene given what was happening in our own backyard.
I did get teary on this one though. It’s Julia Gillard’s address to the nation on the bushfire tragedy.

I actually think it makes a huge difference to our community and others if we smile and laugh more. Sharing joy is not hokey because one smile can lift the spirits of one person, who may then feel inspired to lift the spirits of another, and on and on it goes. Everything we do counts. Even asking the check out operator at Woolies how their day has been. Making people feel seen and important is a vital public service. For the cynics here, what do you do to add something positive to your world?
And Mia, I'm glad someone else out there has my total infatuation with Robin Wright Penn. I don't know what it is exactly, but that woman is a goddess. So smart, so real, so talented.
