Happy Sad1 380x260 Best and worst of the week

.

Happy Friday and welcome back to Best and Worst – your chance to get together with the rest of the Mamamia community and talk about the highs and the lows of your week, as well as anything else that’s on your mind.

Don’t forget – if you want a chance to host, email info@mamamia.com.au with your full name, headshot and a short bio (include any links to your blog/Twitter etc), and we’ll take it from there.

Introducing Lauren. She writes:

Best: Vanilla and rose cups of warm tea, wedding planning and parcels from far abroad. The exquisite tea is warming my soul, dreamily planning our wedding is warming my heart and beautiful parcels from abroad are warming my cheeks with smiles.

Worst: The cold and wet weather has set in and the grey can be dreary if you don’t smile and enjoy the small things.

Lauren is a 28 year old Brisbane native living in Auckland for the next couple of months. She lives on twitter, instagram and her blog to keep her feeling close to her Australian home.

What was your best and worst of the week?

Worst: which actually turned out the best in a twist…went on an easter camping trip with friends to Apollo Bay, Great Ocean Rd VIC…

Good Friday was beautiful weather. Set up our new tent, without too many domestics with the bf in the middle of the caravan park. Just after dinner, the winds came, boy did they come, rain, gale force winds and gigantic wind gusts. First night camping spent sleeping in our cars!

Best: Well we actually had a blast! The rest of the time the weather was fine, bit cold but we had an awesome time and a lot of laughs. The next day my friend stated, ‘you know last night was kinda fun’ and we all agreed. Nothing like a bit of drama and we have a great story to tell!

Best decision we made was dropping the tents, securing everything, grabbing our bedding and sleeping in the cars. It was pretty funny watching flying lilos and the next day looking at all the abandoned sites and shit up in the trees. Loving our new tent, it held up the best of the lot, not bad for the first tent I’ve ever bought. I’m so glad we stayed and rebuilt the next day. Nothing like drinks, laughs, bbq’s and time spent with awesome friends!

  2. Best: Tomorrow is MM commentator Melissa Savage’s 30th Birthday! (Happy Birthday!! :) )

Better Best: Tomorrow is also my birthday!! Yay! Cake and Presents!

Even Better Best: To celebrate my birthday, I am taking the next 11 weeks off work!

Bestest Better Best: I am going to use those 11 weeks to finally write the book I’ve been banging on about for a while now…I probably won’t finish it, but I hope I’ll have something that I can at least start shopping around…I’m really looking forward to this, For the next 11 weeks I will be doing something I love doing…writing.

    :)

Lauren – If it is the dilmah tea that is currently floating your boat there is a fab recipe where you can use the tea leaves to make cookies. I made them and they were definitely a HUGE hit!

Best: Loving a bit of cooler weather, but also loving that I miss a month of winter thanks to O/S travel. Booked Stonehenge/Bath/Windsor Castle tour so feeling pretty excited about that this week!

Worst: Lots of uni work to do and feeling a bit blah because I’ve been eating what I want and not going to the gym. Both things I can (and will) change so not a huge deal in the grand scheme of things.

Worst: within two days I was diagnosed with Bacterial Vaginosis and a bladder infection. Having given birth prematurely with my last bub this has been quite a scare since both infections (separately) have been linked to preterm labour. Currently on two different types of antibiotics and praying that once the courses are done my risk will disappear. Just can’t shake that feeling of unease and worry this pregnancy and really hanging out for my morphology scan in a couple of weeks to make sure everything is okay.

Best: hubby is on school holidays. So nice having him home :)

Best: no longer having to post under “anon preggers for now” cos it’s me!! And I’m 12 weeks. I have the scan on Wednesday all was good so no need for a Cvs. So now I can enjoy the rest of my 3rd & final pregnancy. My ob & I discussed having a procedure done during the c-section to clamp my Fallopian tubes as I definitely don’t want an opps baby!
    Worst: nothing!

Best: having a lovely easter with my family up north. The kids faces on easter morning were priceless

Worst: coming home to this cold weather! It’s like a switch was turned off. Last week we had 30 degree days, today it is 20!

    Hugs to everyone today

    Hi All. Happy Friday.

Best: I love my new red jeans from Witchery. They make me feel very skinny!!!

Worst: A girl that was absolutely horrid to me last year at work and put me through hell before she resigned is coming back and starts on Monday. I am beyond anxious and stressed about it. Fingers crossed I can find a new job soon so I don’t have to stick around very long!!

Maybe you should wear your new red jeans to work on Monday so you’ll look and feel fab and won’t care about the not-so-nice girl returning :)

Best: The long easter weekend spent down at Wilson’s Promontory. Great food, great company and all round fab weekend!

Best #2: It’s 24 degrees in Melbourne and it’s April. WINNING!

Worst: Procrastinated all week and haven’t start any of the uni assignments due very soon……my bad!

I hear you! I’ve been procrastinating ALL mid-semester break. Good Friday feels like YESTERDAY, when I was saying “I’ve got ten days to do all my uni work. No problem!”

      Ummm….whoops.

Best: short work week – thank you Easter!! – and managing to stay on track with exercise. Hopefully I manage to stick with it for more than a week or so.

Worst: this is truly trivial and I know I’m so lucky to have such a silly worst, but my hair is driving me nuts!!! It’s oily and so dry at the same time. I’ve tried a handful of different shampoos and conditioners but nothing is getting it back to normal! I don’t know what’s causing it (the seasons?) but I really want my hair back. Ok trivial rant over.

    Happy Friday MM’ers xx

Ah! I had exactly the same problem. Try Herbal Essences ‘drama clean’ green clarifying shampoo, then use the head & shoulders conditoner (the minty one (also green writing i think) from almost root to tip. I now wash my hair every 3 days – and I was a grease ball by the end of day 1 before! it’s awesome. good luck!
oh and ‘davroe’ hair oil is so much better than the others if you want something for the ends. hope your hair gets better!

Maybe try taking silica supplements? I have been taking them for a little while and my hair is thankful for it. I have super dry and damaged ends and a normal to oily scalp.

Also, try and wash your hair less (hard, I know, but worth it) and use a deep-conditioning treatment from mid-lengths to ends once a week. Also consider using dry shampoo in the interim.

When all else fails, ask Zoe Foster.

I have oily hair and dandruff…I feel your pain!

I alternate washes with Garnier Fructis (I use the Body Boost one, if that is available in Oz) and Head and Shoulders. I find if I use H&S exclusively, it builds up in my hair after awhile, so I use the Fructis to kind of strip it back, but if I don’t use H&S as well, I do get dandruff.

Reading all these updates is good for me – makes me start to appreciate the way the sun is shining nicely today, or the fact that it is Friday.

Hi Lauren. Great best and worst from you:) The best thing beating cold weather is snuggly clothes and candles.

My best of the week was a nice night at Ikea with my boyfriend. Something so simple but it was so great. I love the food and there were hardly any people there so it was nice and relaxing.
    http://glossy-beauty.blogspot.com.au/2012/04/date-night-at-ikea.html

Another best is that after working for 8 days straight I have 4 days off starting tomorrow. I am planning on switching off and enjoying life:) Hopefully the weather will cooperate.

OMM: I finally discovered Bon Iver this week and I haven’t stopped marvelling at his beautiful and haunting music. It really hits home.

No worsts this week but I am thinking of those who are doing it tough and sending lots of positive thoughts.

Best: I don’t really have a stand out best this week. There’s been lots of little things – bub’s movements, finding a really good engagement gift for my two close friends, my mum is flying into town later today, discount easter eggs, have set up bub’s bassinet etc.

    I’d like to request a best – a solid 8hrs sleep!!

Worst: aforementioned lack of sleep, boredom at work due to maternity leave starting soon everyone’s already feeding their work through other people, and not being able to find nice black ballet flats. You wouldn’t think it’d be that hard do you? I mean there are black flats everywhere, maybe I’m too fussy.

I want black ballet flats that aren’t completely flat (you know how some at least have a little 5mm heel), in suede but not the black suede that looks almost like dark grey or is really thin so it wears quickly. If they have embellishments they are to be silver or pewter coloured and no bows, bells or any other such girlieness. Just a buckle or similar. Oh and under $70 too. That’s not too much to ask now is it, Is It???

Best: Have been in “our” house for two weeks and am absolutely loving life!! Living with my boyfriend is amazing and I just feel the love everytime I get home! Am yet to have a mortgage payment come out but we have the money there and its so good! Love our house and love that we have little projects to do to make the house our home! :)

Worst: the weather – its been FREEZING in Melbourne :( Also some people in the world suck. My boyfriends parents house got broken into on Wednesday and they stole a laptop and lots of jewelery (including his grandmothers charm bracelet) and then pinched his dads work car as well… :( Hopefully they are caught soon!

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend x

Aw yay to the house! I loved that feeling when we bought our last apartment. Now we’re renting for a bit I’m looking forward to having that feeling again when we buy our next one. Its nice to walk around and think – that’s MY kitchen, and MY wall and MY carpet which I can pull up and replace with bright purple shagpile if I really wanted to because its MY place. Enjoy and have fun with the little projects!!
