Voulez Vous: Annie Everingham. The woman who knows how to work colour.

By ELISSA RATLIFF

Experimenting with colour is always going to be tricky.

Most people learn this in primary school art class after a failed attempt of a rainbow goes wrong. But there are some who just get it, who understand what goes with what. Designer meets artist Annie Everingham is one of those people, and boy, does she know how to work it, or in this case, mix it.

Her work, which includes everything from coffee cup designs through to greeting cards and wall prints is a mixture of feminine colour palettes, like neons and pastels.

“The colours I come across in everyday life inspire my work – plants, art deco buildings, a dreamy sunset. I also love painting florals, because who doesn’t like flowers.”

Take a look at some of her work:

Having originally studied design, Everingham says “I really like exploring techniques and mediums on different surfaces and blending artworks together digitally. I’ve traditionally a lot worked with watercolour and inks because I studied fashion design, and our illustration classes and design journaling usually called for those particular mediums because they’re quick.”

Raised in Tamworth, but based in Newcastle, Everingham dabble’s in different parts of design. “I love to surround myself with beautiful things for the simple joy that it brings to everyday life and I hope that sentiment comes through in my art.”

You could add a bit of Annie’s work to any part of your house and it would brighten it up quick smart. That’s the beauty of it.
