Sarah Michelle Gellar has spent her first night in the emergency room as a mum.

Former Buffy star Sarah Michelle Gellar has just experienced one of parenting’s more unnerving milestones: the first night spent in the emergency room with a child.

The 39-year-old has two children, Charlotte and Rocky, with her husband and fellow actor Freddie Prinze Jr.

Evidently, the couple has managed to get through seven years before their first ER visit as parents — which Gellar describes as “a pretty good stretch.”

"It was a long night and apparently a nasty virus, but thankfully Rocky was released," she wrote in a candid Instagram post.

"I'm not going to lie, watching your child not be able to breathe, is the most helpless I have ever felt."

Gellar thanked the hospital staff who attended to Rocky, adding that her daughter Charlotte had refused to leave his side (nothing gets between a protective big sister and her little brother).

Though time spent in hospital can be hard on the nerves, the actress did find some humour in the experience.

"The best moment was when I was filling out his paperwork, and I was asked if Rocky was single - laughter is definitely a great medicine," she quipped.

We hope little Rocky gets better soon, and that the family has no cause to find themselves in the ER again anytime soon.
