He asked his cousin where her imaginary friend lived. It was a terrible, terrible idea.

Proof that children are just creepier versions of regular people.

Here’s a tip. If you encounter a child with an imaginary friend, never, ever enquire as to where this friend came from.

This was a lesson one Redditor learned after helping look after his 4-year-old cousin with a carefree trip to the park.

When he got to her house, he was told by his cousin’s mum that his cousin had a new friend called Mimi. Mimi, he was told, was imaginary. Mimi was not supposed to be real.

Before he took his cousin to the park, he was having some light conversation with his cousin and started asking about Mimi. This is when everything started to come undone.

“My cousin answers (my questions) with an adorable swiftness as if Mimi is a real person. She tells me all about her curly hair and how she wants to go visit Mimi at her house. I asked her where Mimi lives and she said that she’ll show me on the way to the park.”

Say no, foolish Redditor, say no!

“Anyway, so we head out a little while later, and as we’re driving, my cousin starts telling me from her car seat “Here after Superman, this is where Mimi lives.” I look to the right but there’s nothing there. “No the other side!!” I look to my left and nearly crash as I realise she’s pointing into a cemetery. “Cousin, you’ve made a mistake, Mimi doesn’t live here,” I say, trying to laugh it off. “Yes she does! She told me this is where she lives and sleeps!”

Dear God.

In case you still don’t believe that this child was definitely playing with a dead ghost child, one commenter did some investigating into the inhabitants of the cemetery.

They reported back simply,

“There is a single Mimi buried in that cemetery.”

OK. We should note that this Mimi was 37 when she died and there were more than 16,800 burials at this cemetery. But still! Ghost child!

The Redditor who posted the story is going to do some more investigating and report back as to whether his cousin truly does have a ghost as a best friend, so enjoy your nightmares in the meantime.
