A restaurant owner fired his son for the note he left of a customer's receipt.

A Rhode Island restaurant owner has fired his son for writing the word ‘fatty’ on a customer’s receipt.

When Dillon Arnold went to pay his bill at All Stars Bar and Grill, he was given a credit card slip to sign. But in the location on the receipt where the table number would usually appear, the bartender had manually entered ‘Fatty.’

Speaking to WJAR-TV, Arnold recalled, “I was signing my slip.”

“I didn’t really pay attention to it yet, and then I just happened to read it and I saw it in the corner and I was like, ‘Wow,’ and my heart just dropped.”

Arnold posted a photo of the bill to Facebook, where it has since gone viral. The story has been picked up by international news sites – encouraging the owner of the restaurant to act.

Tony Amrosio, who owns All Stars, offered Arnold a $50 gift card, which Arnold ‘wasn’t ready to accept’. In an interview with WJAR-TV, Ambrosio said, “I want to apologise to you, Dillon, from the bottom of my heart.”

“That’s not the type of person that I am, my employees are, or my child.”

Tony Ambrosio’s son, T.J., has also apologised for his actions. The 18-year-old wrote on social media, “What I did was immature and I acted without thinking about the consequences.”

“I acted in a way that was rude, childish, and totally inappropriate. Due to my actions, I was terminated, rightly so.”

Arnold says he doesn’t blame Tony for what happened in his restaurant.

He just says, “It’s supposed to be professional at all times, no matter what.”

“I don’t wish anything bad against him but it kind of ruined by self-esteem a little.”
