Actually, Anon, gay couples were getting ripped off until two years ago under the private health rebate scheme. Gay couples used to have to PAY extra tax if they didn’t have private health insurance when their INDIVIDUAL wage was above 50,000 (or whatever the cutoff was) instead of the combined wages of the COUPLE (like the heterosexuals). For 10 years my partner and I paid an extra $3000 in taxes every year because we are gay. THAT is wrong.

I couldn’t agree more! I remember studying the Crucible this year for English at school, and then I thought of same-sex marriage…religion in the Crucible was the government, they were intertwined, I would like to think that we have come much further since the 1600′s with regards to who and what runs the government.

I guess the same could be said for vegetarians then…whats one person going to do…as if one person not eating meat will help…Its not that she is trying to ‘do’ anything as such by ‘boycotting’ marriage, its the thought that if enough people stamp their foot, then perhaps the government will hear. Also, while boycotting marriage may be a trend because some people have commitment issues, her intentions appear quite the opposite, if she was simply following a trend, why bother writing to people she does not even know just to give an excuse as to why she refuses to get married.
I think what she is doing is a magnificent thing, and she should be encouraged, because incase you didn’t read clearly enough, it is like walking into an only straight club, what would you do, say “oh well thats just wrong” and still enter, or would you take action in the only way you can?

I don’t care if people want polygamy, I’m pro-choice! But adding a third person would make it trickier in terms of if one partner died without a valid will or they wanted to get a divorce, I would imagine. The laws are framed with a 2 person marriage in mind and creating a new set of rules to allow for polygamy would be quite an effort.
