Melbourne man claims he was acting in self-defence when he allegedly bashed and raped woman.

A 45-year-old man accused of the brutal bashing and rape of an intellectually disabled woman has claimed he was acting in self-defence.

Charged with rape and intentionally causing serious injury, Troy Raine told the court the victim, who suffers from a brain injury, is a compulsive liar who is proficient in martial arts, reports The Herald Sun.

“She’s a black belt in Aikido — the stuff that Steven Segal does — a second Dan. She should be classed as a lethal weapon,” he said.

Police allege that Raine was staying with the 43-year-old Melbourne woman for four days before he savagely raped her on May 21.

Raine then allegedly attacked her after an argument outside the Hoddle St commission flat the following day, mercilessly beating and kicking her as she lay on the ground calling for help.

The woman was rushed to Royal Melbourne Hospital with extensive facial injuries that have reportedly left her blind in one eye and with just 10 per cent vision in the other.

As part of his bail application, Raine claimed that the victim had enjoyed being raped and was actually the one responsible for initiating the violent attack.

“She’s broken my nose. She choked me. She was using all these moves on me… I swear on my mother’s eyes. I was scared,” he said, according to The Herald Sun.

“She’s inflicted more injury (on me) than I inflicted.”

Raine has been remanded in custody and is due to appear in court on Friday.
