Activated almonds and other foods fads everyone is trying

There are certain parts of the newspaper that people automatically gravitate towards. For my husband it’s the sports pages (slightly stereotypical but alas it’s true).  For my friend Ella it’s the fashion pages, for my mother it’s the weather, my sister the crosswords , for my other friend Fran it’s the “hatch, match and dispatch” (births, marriages and deaths) but for me it’s the bits of the paper that give me the most insight into how other people live.

It's for this reason that I adore My Day on a Plate in the Sunday Life. My Day on a Plate lists the food that a well known celebrity, sports personality or entertainer has eaten in a typical day. Dr Joanna McMillan then critiques the food choices of the author and tells them how they could have improved – or what was really good.

I know that celebrities that share their food diaries may be prone to some exaggeration but still it’s interesting and you can take what you read with a grain of salt (although Dr McMillan cautions against too much salt).

But yesterday’s My Day on a Plate was too brilliant (read: weird) to even try and digest. Have a look at what Pete Evans chef and Weight Watchers ambassador says he eats in a day

7am – Two glasses of alkalized water with apple cider vinegar, then a smoothie of blended alkalized water, organic spirulina, activated almonds, maca, blueberries, stevia, coconut kefir and two organic, free-range eggs.

8:30am – Sprouted millet, sorghum, chia and buckwheat bread with liver pate, avocado, cultured vegetables, plus ginger and liquorice root tea

12:30pm – Fresh fish, sautéed kale and broccoli, spinach and avocado salad, cultured vegies.

3pm – Activated almonds, coconut chips, cacao nibs plus green tea

6:30pm – Emu meatballs, sautéed vegies, cultured vegetables plus a cup of ginger and liquorice root tea

Now I am not sure maybe he just uses some really impressive sounding adjectives to describe eggs and toast or maybe he’s eating food I have yet to discover ? But I do understand emu meatballs and er, let’s leave it at that.

Maybe Pete could join the Bondi Hipsters?

Seems I am not the only one that thinks this is er, ridiculous Pete Evans' activated almonds even have a Twitter hashtag of their own and it’s pretty funny to read – check it out here

What do you think? Do you know people that eat like this? Are you one of them – what is your typical day of eating like?
