By MIA FREEDMAN
So I started seeing this video coming up in my Facebook feed: baby bathing. Sounds dull.
I’ve bathed a lot of babies over a lot of years (well, three babies). I’m still bathing two of them even though they’re not babies anymore – they still require supervision.
And then I watched it……and I was transfixed. More than that, I felt like someone had grabbed my ovaries and was wringing them like a sponge. Oh……just……I …..just……watch:
Did you love it? Did you? I was trying to tell my husband about it and our conversation went like this:
Me: “Oh my GOD. This video. It made me cry today.”
Him: “What was it about?”
Me: “It was this newborn baby having a bath.”
Him: “Then what happened?”
Me: “Well, nothing. It just had a bath. It was so beautiful. I just…..”
Him: “………”
Needless to say, this video is a good test of cluckiness. In fact, having asked around the office and garnered different responses from the women I work with (aged 2os – 40s). Some are all, meh. Others are practically lactating on the spot.
Where do you sit on the clucky spectrum? What’s your reaction to this video?

Nope not clucky as my kids were screaming and fighting whilst I was watching it!!!!

I kept worrying that the water would go into the baby’s nose too….but bub seemed to like being almost totally covered in warmth (I guess that’s what that were trying to do). Beautiful.
Aww I can’t wait to have another one!!

I’m 20 years old and after watching that want to quit uni and my job abd make cute babies!!
loading...
I want someone to give me a bath like that. Seriously.
loading...
I watched this video last week and gave my husband two options:
1) Have another baby.
2) Buy a house with a bigger bath.
loading...
Oh so gorgeous! We just bathed our 3 week old tonight and this video has made me want to wake him to give him a hug and a big kiss. He was delivered by emergency c-section 3 weeks ago and was not due until today. He is very special

I will never have children and my niece and nephew are too old to fit in a basin let alone entertain the idea of their crazy uncle bathing them. As a substitute, can someone please bathe me like this? That looks like bliss.

I’m early 20s. Pretty sure I’m not meant to have kids any time soon – all I could think of was..
“… the water in the baby’s ears… can you REALLY fully immerse a newborn in water, is .. is that safe?”
The baby is so adorably small, but i compare this video to that of a really adorable puppy.. Will I ever have kids? :S

you do realise they have been submersed for nine months don’t you?

I’m just upset because I have a beautiful five month old son who is the most content baby in the world….until bath time. He hates it and has done since he was born and has not enjoyed a single one. I have tried every thing and he still hates it. He screams and gets to frantic it breaks my heart. But he loves the shower?
Sigh bath time has never looked like that for us.
loading...
When he can sit up you can be with him in the shower with a big low bucket. Best of both worlds!
loading...
The only way we managed it for ages was me holding bub (both nude obv) against my chest and getting in with him and just holding him close the whole time. It was really nice! I’m guessing you tried that though. It’ll get better.

Well I rarely visit this site anymore, but I am so glad I did just now and saw that video. I found it so so beautiful.
Our first daughter was given her first bath by my husband and she fell asleep in the water, it was so gorgeous.
I loved bathing my daughters as tiny babies, it was always a favourite part of my day with them. I used to fill the laundry tub as it was nice and deep and I could just hold them with one hand and let them wallow about. It was always very calming for us both.
loading...
Uh oh….I didn’t find that one little bit interesting, and I’m 8 mnths preggo with #3. Oh well, different when it’s your own hey?
loading...
Ha ha possibly. I never had the cluckiness before I had my son. I just went all warm and soft inside watching that. Perhaps it is the nostalgia of having a newborn when my boy is now a grumpy toddler! The reality was he screamed constantly and I was near ready to smack my head with an iron for want of sleep. Newborns are hard work but I melt when I see them now (other peoples)! Good luck xx

After a long time of not being clucky AT ALL, I’ve all of a sudden got really clucky, and decided I’m going to have a baby
Time was definitely not right before, but everything (health, finance, marriage, life etc) is going really well and the time is right, and it seems my hormones agree…
THIS VIDEO MADE ME MELT!!!
The little sighs and pouts… and when the thumb went in the mouth…
*goes and googles books about baby bathing and baby massage*
SQUEEEEEEEE!!!!
Now, no one pop my bubble of happy cluckiness, k?

All the best! xxxx

I hate this video I think it’s terrible makes me feel like they are trying to drown the baby!
loading...
The baby has just come out of a warm watery womb so you can see the bliss on its little face when it is almost completely submerged. Like an ‘ahhh now I am back home moment’. Fluid is normal for babies unlike the air and clothing. Wish I had been confident to bathe my bub like that but I was too scared I would drop him!!!

Something wrong with me, but this was so boring. Haha PHEW.
loading...
Me too. I only watched about half of it – meh.
loading...
Me too! I started watching it thinking this will be very cute. Then I started reading other parts of the website. Then I turned it off just after a minute and a half.
loading...
Now that’s how newborns should be bathed. How gentle and relaxing

I agree I had my first baby five months ago and had no clue what I was doing.
I ran him a nice warm bath but he pooped before hand so by the time I had that under control and the nurse had showed me how to hold him the water was cold. She wouldn’t let me refill it as she had to teach heaps of other new mums and didn’t have spare time.He still hates it five months in.
loading...
This video made me melt in spots (I mean how adorable is that little pout, right?) but also made me uncomfortable in others.
I didn’t think you should let water go into a babies ears like that……plus…… what a waste of water!!
Cute to watch on the whole though
loading...
Not even remotely clunky. My four month old nephew throws insane tantrums at bath time.. I doubt a video of that woulda me anyone squee
loading...
i feel very UNCOMFORTABLE while i was watching this, as the way this woman handled a new born was weired and unacceptable in my point of view. i would never do this to my children as im well aware that they will definitely have ear infection if i soak their heads under water in a face-up way so long and often. Geez some common sense plz people! i dislike it at all!!! do not do this to your children neither!!!!
loading...
Oh for goodness sake, really??
loading...
OMG, I want this lady to give ME a bath!
Seriously, though, I found it lovely. She has a gift. Bathing the bubs was always my hubby’s job as I was too scared (plus it’s just more convenient as I’m doing everything else with the newborn practically).
Not quite enough to make me want another. Especially after being up for my nearly 2 yo son last night 3 times!
loading...
I couldn’t watch it for the same reason as I can’t hold anyone’s newborn baby. I can never be a mum and I just prefer to push it out of my mind than face the pain unnecessarily.
loading...
I’m not the slightest bit maternal. Never have been and, at 56, will never be….but this video even made me go gooey.
loading...
I have a newborn and I think it even made me clucky which is kinda weird considering I have one. It is a beautiful video and has inspired me to take some time tomorrrow night when giving my boy his bath. Just to relax and enjoy the experience with him instead of rushing it all. Thanks for reminder to take a breath and take it all in.
loading...
Personally I didn’t find the video beautiful at all.I have a six week old son & love babies but I just didn’t see the point of the video. The main thought that came to mind was geeze that lady is wasting a lot of water
loading...
Definitely at the ‘meh’ end of the spectrum.
I don’t think I’ll ever know what ‘clucky’ feels like. Puppies and dogs, on the other hand – I go ape-shit!
loading...
um. so it was creepy and weird and horrifying for me. i guess i really don’t want children.
loading...
It’s cute and the baby looks so relaxed but I agree with other people, I was mainly concerned the baby was getting too much water around his/hers eyes and nose etc. I found myself holding my breath when she put the baby under water, it was almost like she held it under too long.
Good test though….def not clucky yet.
loading...
I guess you know I live in a drought-prone area because all I could think about was leaving the tap running the whole time…
loading...
I think it’s a cute baby but I spent most of that feeling uncomfortable that water was going to go in his mouth.
I am definitely not clucky yet.
loading...
I’m 32 weeks pregnant with my first… I cried and seriously thought I was going to lactate!! Absolutely beautiful
loading...
this baby was so relaxed. it was beautiful to watch.
loading...
Yeah cute babies make me clucky and i’m 22. But when they start crying I want to get my tubes tied.
loading...
that is just divine. i love the look of absolute contentedness of that gorgeous baby. just so relaxed and at peace with the world. makes me feel more relaxed too!
loading...
Not clucky but teary-eyed. I’ve had my two and I’m not interested in having anymore. I just loved that look of absolute bliss on the baby’s face. Those early months of having a newborn are hard work but also exquisite for moments like these. But like a lot of other mums here, my two screamed bloody murder as soon as I took their clothes off and then once they were in the bath splashed about like they were swimming the English Channel.
loading...
Perhaps I’m dead inside. But it’s just a baby in a bath.
Nothing. All I thought was, ‘now I feel like a bath’.
I did watch without sound though because I find we are so attuned to soundtracks telling us how we should be feeling. Sound up? Different story.
loading...
This is exquisite……..
There’s a place for this in an Art Gallery actually.
Yes, I felt extremely “clucky” – when you’ve had babies you never forget that experience – the baby’s beautiful skin, the warm water and there’s nothing quite like the smell of new-born babies.
Having had children who’ve experienced several ear infections (including myself), we learnt to keep moisture out of our ears and so I was a bit worried about those babies’ ears when they were being bathed, but anyway the nurse was doing such lovely job it was quite mesmerising at times.
Over the centuries I’m amazed that so many of us ever survived when you consider the relatively rough treatment of thousands of infants at the hands of inept individuals.
Of course maybe it’s because this serene bathing ritual captures an ideal in human kindness that we’re so emotional and enchanted.

I started watching this without the audio…and rather than think “ooh! I want a baby”, I thought “what am I? A monster?”
Then…realising that something was amiss, I turned on the audio and yes, I got it.
I guess the trick to savouring every moment of having a newborn is to play the same kind of soundtrack, constantly. And to do everything pretty slowly. Oh, and to wash the baby when it’s sleeping.
loading...
It is gorgeous…….BUT, bath time with a newborn (I had three) in my house never looked like that. EVER.
loading...
Surprisingly I am cluck-free! Newborns are my favourite, and my three are past that (youngest is about to turn 5). I adored bath time, my kids always had that expression, though this bath shows me stuff I wish I’d known back then. Still, the trouble with newborns is that it goes in a snap. It’s the most beautiful time (or was for me), but then it’s over, and when you put them down somewhere, the start taking off instead of staying put! So, while I would have loved a fourth child, I am ‘past it’ now, and we’ve seen to it to be sure…a very good idea, as the last time my o/h and I were both clucky at the same time, we ended up with our beautiful third child:)
loading...
Yeah I’m definitely in the ‘meh’ category. Bored after the first 30 seconds. The music is nice and tranquil though, happy to listen to the music…
loading...
Oh dear. I want two of those. Look at that baby’s beautiful face! What a peaceful little lump.
loading...
I’m five months pregnant with my first baby and my heart rate exploded and she started moving around like crazy. What a beautiful video, just love overload.
loading...
Yep, could so go a third.
loading...
If this isnt the most beautiful thing.. big lump in my throat
who is this baby whispering bather?!
loading...
It’s the music.
loading...
Am I the only one whose newborn reacts NOTHING like this to bath time? Picture five minutes of screaming bloody murder. Maybe I should make a video…
loading...
My son hated baths and screamed like a banshee, I did take out from that the way they cradled the babies. So beautiful and made me want to get kncoked up again.
loading...
Haha! Great response!
loading...
Yep, my son screamed like a banshee at bath time as a new born! Different story now though at 4 months old, he splashes like a pig in mud, and grizzles when bath time is over!
loading...
i just turned 50 and i am beginning to have empty nest syndrome ( which i believed was all poppycock until recently) and all i can say after watching this video is this………
i want a new baby……….NOW
loading...
awww that’s the most beautiful comment yet!
hopefully you wont have to wait too long for grand kiddys!
loading...
I just had my first one leave the nest for the army – I still have a 22 and 14 year old at home but …..Cant wait for grandkids!!!
loading...
Lol I’m 51 in a few days and my beautiful almost 18 daughter is going off to uni this week…..she is apparently upset as all her friend’s mums are crying that they are going and she hasn’t seen me do that – Ummm don’t open the flood-gates!! Anyway, I had 4 babies over 9 years so the disturbed sleep carried on over a 15 year period (take note new mums) but that video was just glorious! I always said to anyone who would listen that I would have a newborn every year if I didn’t have to deal with toddlers and small kids!
loading...
Wow! That looked like THE most relaxing thing in the world! I loved that baby’s face – pure bliss!
That looks like a nice job. Bathing and massaging babies. I could do that.
I had three babies in three years so I’m done with babies, but it does make me miss those first cuddles with a squishy newborn! I think I’d be happy to borrow one and hand them back these days, though
loading...
clucky. I worked for 6 months wear we sold formal wear in sizes 3months up wards for kids, not much cuter than a 2 year old boy in a tux showing off.
loading...
Nope, not clucky at all I didn’t even want to watch it till the end found it boring lol but everyone’s different.
loading...
When I first watched it made my ovaries burst! 3 days and countless views later… I’m still melting.
…but with 5 children and 2 grandbabies… enough is enough I think!
Oh to be this woman.. I LOVE the way she does this… it’s so beautiful. Adults could benefit being bathed this way too… that trust required, wow.
What’s with all these “the baby will drown!” comments? Although they don’t breathe (or at all) water in the womb, they still do live in liquid for a long time… water is soothing and comfortable. and this woman clearly knows what she is doing.
There are many people like that in the world you know…
