Selected Mamamia readers have been trialling Uncle Tobys Simply Fruit Bars.

So delicious. Good for when I am on the run.

Sugar, sugar, sugar, sugar, sugar with SUGAR!!

Love them! I got the orange and poppy seed variety and it was yum! Tasted just like an orange and poppyseed friand but with nowhere near the fat and calorie content. Would go beautifully with a nice coffee. They are very convenient to grab from the pantry as they are individually wrapped so it is just a grab and go kind of situation. They make a bit of a difference from my usual snacks, an apple or a packet of tiny teddies, much more sophisticated than a packet of tiny teddies and probably a lot healthier. More interesting and satisfying than an apple. On a working day they would be an ideal throw in the handbag kind of deal but when I am at home for the day I would feel a bit guilty to eat them compared with say a piece of toast comparing the cost and the amount of packaging they come in. Maybe if the packaging was recyclable I could get over part of that guilt. And if I was independently wealthy I wouldn’t worry so much about the cost! LOL

The bars are great tasting and a good size. They feel healthier than my normal snack.

I really liked these, taste was great and perfect snack size.

Something healthy and low in fat, convenient and easy to throw in my handbag, something filling and above all, something that tastes good. It’s a shame that the only box these didn’t tick for me was taste.

They weren’t to my liking. My kids didn’t like them either, nor my kids friends. Thanks for letting us try them though.

something that is convenient that I can throw in may bag, not too messy, something I would happy to share with my kids, tastes good but not too unhealthy or expensive

i definitely look for healthy snacks that are low in sugar and convenience is a must!!

When looking at snacks I usually look for something convenient, tasty and nutritious with as little sugar as possible.
loading...
Something healthy and easy that isn’t going to be destroyed in my handbag. It needs to not be too expensive. These bars were also tasty which is certainly important.

Something tasty and easy to transport, that’s healthy, reasonably low cal, but filling.

something tasty and not messy.

I try to look for something, natural, relatively healthy, tasty and satisfying. Found these bars are a good snack at work.
loading...
Usually something that doesn’t need any preparation like cooking or heating up or cooling. Something that can be eaten right away and get rid of that hungry feeling!

Something that is not too expensive, and pretty healthy.

Probably too much sugar compared to my usual snack. I usualy look for something low sugar, low GI with a focus on protein (because I always snack before a workout).Typically, I have natural yoghurt and nuts or yoghurt and a piece of fruit. The bar did not keep me full for as long as the yoghurt/fruit/nut snacks. Much easier to carry around though, so might consider getting them now and then. Probably better for a post work out snack.

I usually look for something quick and easy in a snack, reasonably healthy, low in fat and sugar. For the kids I try to avoid artificial colours, preservatives and MSG is a definite no no!
I would be unlikely to buy these again, in all honesty we are happy enough with a piece of fruit, or a homebaked muffin or some crackers and cheese or something. A fraction of the price, and without all the preservatives.

I loved the bars … hid them from the kids
Great to grab for a quick snack around 3 in the afternoon .. and found them filling!
I have bought them since … stuck to the apricot flavor.
Nutrition and light!.

I usually look for something quick and easy in a snack, and these bars are certainly that! My DS liked them too, so something to throw in the handbag for both of us!

What do you usually look for in a snack?
I need something that is tasty, can be eaten one handed while i’m driving, slightly nutricious and will fill me up for at least an hour! These snacks are great for that but i still want to try to other flavour to compare taste.
loading...
I usually look for something as unprocessed as possible, with few ingredients. Something quick and easy full of nutrition. Not empty calories

My usual snack would be fruit, trail mix or a museli bar. I try and look for something that tastes great and is satisfying!
loading...
Well in the absence of chocolate and ice cream (all the stuff which is delicious but so horribly bad for you) I did enjoy these muesli bars. 4 kids = breakfast on the run. Quick snack on the way back from school, on way to meeting and I find my usual 10am craving has been significantly reduced. Yep, a great buy!

My usual snack used to be chocolate every day!! But I haven’t eaten chocolate for months and don’t even miss it. I have replaced it with dried fruit and these fruit bars. I love yoghurt too.
loading...
These are very similar to my usual snack which would be a nut bar of some sort – The texture has really grown on me too, as well as the strong flavours.
loading...
my usual preferred snacks are a handful of nuts or a small tub of yoghurt which are both easy and convenient. I just found the bars far too sweet so at this stage I won’t be changing to these bars for that reason.
loading...
I would probably reach for an apple/banana – but if I was on the run, I would definiately grab one for my handbag.
loading...
I really liked them but definitely higher in sugar than snacks I’d usually have.
loading...
dismall really would prefer my usual salad

Hmmm I would be interested to know how much sugar they have in them, including the natural sugar from the fruit. Sarah Wilson’s ebook about sugar is well worth a read. Too much sugar gets stored as fat. I have so many friends who try to lose weight and eat a lot of fruit and wonder why they dont lose the weight. Apparently the body struggles to break down sugar. I would be cautious if they were high in sugar.

I’m a little bit hard to please as I try to avoid processed foods and like to snack on whole fruit such as a banana or apple.
I also try to avoid sugar(except for whole fruit) and simple carbs so tend to favour a savaory snack. I might have a ryvita witih avocado and tomato or a plain greek yoghurt.
So I guess your snack isn’t really for me but I appreciate what you are trying to do.

I find them a little small, tasty but feel like I’ve had a sugary snack rather than something filing.
loading...
They’re rich in flavour and feel healthier than regular muesli bars. A good way to satisfy the mid afternoon sweet tooth cravings …

I eat a museli bar a day, so these bars are obviously similar what I snack on anyway, perhaps a little smaller in size, but, hey, I’m trying to cut down so that’s no negative! I might try the other flavour next time I go grocery shopping (had the orange and poppyseed this time.) I noticed in my local IGA they were about $5.40 a packet which is little dearer than my usual product, but will pay the extra for a more natural product.

Well, I usually snack on apples and bananas and sometimes muesli bars. I like these bars for something different and they are a tasty alternative

I love the orange and poppyseed. I usually get the Weightwatchers variety, they might have some chocolate on, but not as tasty as the Uncle Tobys.

Convenience wise, they are much easier than having fruit get battered around in my handbag, or having to pour dried fruit, nuts or crackers into a containter and risking them open. Taste wise though, the flavour is too sweet and overpowering for me, so I’ll be sticking to my preferred snacks.
loading...
Much healthier and tastier than normal snacks. Based on their richness however not for the kids. That’s ok!
loading...
I thought the bars were a bit strong in flavour for me. I would say that yes they are convenient for a snack on the run and a quick energy burst. They compare favourably as a snack as opposed to offering the kids chips etc I’d prefer they had a fruit bar instead.

I would choose these over the usual snacks I eat! At the moment I’m breastfeeding and trying to have something healthy next to me during his feeding marathon feeds
these were a really nice alternative to the usual crackers or muffin bars, and were super convenient in upping my fruit intake – I’ve eaten them all and I want more!
loading...
It’s nice to try something different for a chance. The texture and flavour was nice, however, I think I prefer something heavier in nuts or something with a bit of a crunch for a snack. Its just a little more satisfying for me.
loading...
They are definitley different to the usual muesli bar I would grab – but not in a bad way. Would happily add them to snack roster.
loading...
yes they are convenient! I would prefer if more than four came in the box as i only do the grocery shop fortnightly. My husband and I both love them, so we’d prefer a box of 8 i suppose rather than buying two boxes and increasing waste/landfill.
loading...
They are convenient, but no more than a piece of fruit is. If your looking for a healthy alternative however, this is a good one.
loading...
It is a good size and easy to pop in your handbag. Shame I’m not crazy about the taste, because if I was it would be very convenient!
loading...
The certainly are convenient but no more convenient than any other bar on the market, you can’t really get anything more convenient than a bar.

Really yummy! I got the orange and poppy seed combination and it was very flavoursome and I love that they actually are all natural. I liked them so much that I bought the other flavour for work the following week and I think I might like that flavour even more.
