1. Police believe a man shot in self-defence may have been a serial killer.

A woman in West Virginia who shot a man in self-defence may have taken down a serial killer.

The woman realised something was wrong after Neal Falls arrived at her apartment after answering an ad she’d placed for an escort service on Backpage.com.

The woman told KPTV that she knew the man was there to kill her. “I could tell that he had already done something because he said that he was going to prison for a long time.” she said. “And that’s when I knew he was going to kill me.”

After a struggle, the woman grabbed Falls’ gun and shot him. When police arrived, they found a “kill kit” in the man’s Subaru. A list of names, believed to be of future targets, was found in Falls’ pocket.

He is now being investigated in relation to other violent, unsolved murders. The woman has been treated for a broken vertebrae and lacerations, but has since been released from hospital.

4. Social media rallies around mum stuck in hospital with a sick newborn.

When Kaylee Goeman took her six-week-old son to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Canada she was unable to afford the hospital’s parking fee, so paid for a parking meter for four hours.

When it became clear she would be at the hospital for much longer, she turned to a local mother’s group on Facebook for help.

“I’m at RVH with my newborn and we now need to do more ultrasound and xrays.” she wrote.

“I put all my change in the street meter but it’s going to run out at 3.30. Will I get towed or just a ticket? I can’t leave my newborn to run out, and we didn’t expect it to be this long.”

Other mums in the area quickly rallied around Goeman and fed the meter for her so she would avoid getting a ticket.

Goeman told Today she was overhwelmed by the community’s support.

“Knowing I had all these ladies there for me, to help me with parking, meals, and even hugs made me able to focus just on my son and his needs,” she said.
