Why wouldn't you, like, totally get married at schoolies?

Who says kids can’t make a commitment? Two schoolies are this morning celebrating after they got ‘married’ yesterday on the beach. The couple met each other five days ago and they interrupted their honeymoon to do be interviewed by Lisa Wilkinson this morning on the Today Show along with the best man, Alex.

My favourite part? It’s hard to say. The matching schoolies t-shirts (including Alex)? The plastic ring?  Oh wait, my favourite part was the way Lisa managed to get through the interview without wagging her finger like I was doing at home and saying “WTF”.

According to the Herald Sun

.

Ipswich schoolies Monique Quinn and Matthew Elliot, both 17, exchanged personally written vows in front of friends at Surfers Paradise.

Wristbands made way for a hurriedly bought wedding band but there was no frock or fancy suits.

Just shirts emblazed with the words “Schoolies 2010 Hellz yeah”.

“My father does not know but I guess he is going to find out now,” Monique said. “Mum wasn’t too happy.”

The wedding isn’t legally binding because of their age but that didn’t stop Matthew popping the question – cask in hand 24 hours after meeting Monique. Monique said: “We were just in the carpark having a few drinks.

Ah, it’s not legally binding. That’s the fine print. Important that. If you’re married, how old were you and were you ‘ready’? If you’re not married but would like to be one day, got an age in mind? Double figures would be a good start….
