US Central Command hacked by Islamic State supporters.

The US Central Command’s social media accounts have been hacked by Islamic State supporters.

The ABC reports the Central Command’s Twitter and YouTube accounts have been suspended after the hacking — which left several messages on its Twitter feed, including one telling American soldiers to “watch your back”.

“In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful, the CyberCaliphate continues its CyberJihad,” the Centcom Twitter feed read after the hacking.

Subsequent posts read “Pentagon Networks Hacked! China Scenarios” and “Pentagon Networks Hacked. Korean Scenarios”.

Central Command, which handles American military operations covering the Middle East and Central Asia, oversaw the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. It is currently managing the US air strikes against Islamic State militant positions in Iraq and Syria.

Two US defence officials, speaking to the ABC on condition of anonymity, said the hacking did not appear to be a security threat.

US Central Command confirmed the hacking, and the White House said it was monitoring the extent of the breach.

“We are taking appropriate measures to address the matter,” Central Command said in a statement.
