Their love story is part of her inspiring story of survival. And it continues – the pair have just become engaged while holidaying in The Maldives, the Australian Women’s Weekly reports.

Turia told the magazine she was “overwhelmed with love at the moment” after receiving a diamond ring from the man who stood by her throughout her recover from a fire that ripped through an ultra-marathon event in The Kimberley.

It’s been a tough few years for the couple. In 2011, while running an ultra marathon through the Kimberley in Western Australia, Turia was trapped by a grassfire, unable to be rescued for four hours.

Turia has previously told the ABC, “a lot of people find it kind of bizarre, but my life is incredible.”

“I’ve got an amazing partner, beautiful family and friends. I live in one of the best places in Australia in Ulladulla.

“So when people say they feel sorry for me, I don’t really get it. I don’t feel sorry for myself at all.”

The full romantic details of the couple’s engagement will be in Thursday’s edition of the Australian Women’s Weekly.

We wish the happy couple all the best.
