Tina Fey delivers touching eulogy for her father.

Tina Fey has described her father as a “great American” and honoured him with a loving eulogy celebrating his accomplishments as a firefighter, writer, war veteran and loving father.

The award winning entertainer’s father, Donald H. Fey,  passed away earlier this month at age 82, and while Tina Fey is well known for her left-leaning politics and satirical portrayal of Republic Vice-President candidate Sarah Palin, her eulogy acknowledged “the Republican Party should have tried to clone” her dad.

“He was a great dad and a talented artist and writer, but I also think of him as a great American – he served his country in Korea, he served his city as a fireman, he took his kids regularly to art museums and historian sites,” Fey recalled to Philly.com.

“When he taught me how to play baseball he would say to me, ‘If you throw like a girl again, we’re going in’. (I took it in the spirit it was intended). He read poetry and history and newspapers. He was an informed patriot.”

Mr Fey was a professional writer for more than 30 years, primarily in fund-raising and development. He helped raise more than $500 million (US) for schools, hospitals and public-services agencies, according to philly.com.

His daughter’s touching honest words and love for her father, show just how you much can completely disagree politically with the people you love very much. In the end it is only the love that matters.

Our thoughts are with Tina and her family.
