.

COSMETIC SURGERY TO LOOK YOUR BEST ONLINE

A Virginian (US) plastic surgeon has gone public with a special package he calls the FaceTime Face-lift, named after the video-to-video chat feature on Apple products. “People don’t come in asking for a FaceTime Face-lift per se,” the surgeon, Dr. Robert K. Sigal, of the Austin-Weston Center for Cosmetic Surgery in Reston, Va., said in a YouTube video. “What they’ll say is that ‘I don’t like the way I look when I’m video chatting.’ ”

Dr Sigal charges $10,000 for the package which focuses on fixing sagging necklines – people often look down on their phones or computers when chatting – but doesn’t leave a chin scar. He has about 100 patients a year and about a quarter, he said, cited the way they looked on video chats as the reason they wanted to go under the knife.

Noted.

Here’s what else has been buzzing in news and on the web:

1. Beyonce is the world’s most beautiful woman, according to People magazine. She says it’s because she’s given birth and has never before felt such purpose. Mind you, Elle Macpherson (who was also high on the list) had the best advice: “Don’t worry about your silhouette, worry about how you feel.” Amen.

2. Rupert Murdoch has been grilled at the media ethics inquiry about his relationship with British politicians. His son James only this week unleashed the revenge package: a flurry of emails that documented an exceedingly close relationship between the Government and News Corporation as it battled to win the BSkyB television rights. The emails showed promises of editorial backing for politicians who helped ‘smooth the way’ and detailed the way Jeremy Hunt, the British Culture Secretary, kept secret ‘backdoor’ channels open between the Murdochs and the Government to make the deal happen. Ouch.

3. What did you do for Anzac Day? Prime Minister Julia Gillard addressed thousands at Gallipoli. “We remember what the Anzacs did in war and for what they did to shape our nation in peace,” Ms Gillard said. “In this place, they taught us to regard Australia and nowhere else as home.”

4. Scientists have found the G-Spot. Really. There’s even a photo of it. It’s apparently 5-8cm inside the vagina, some 1.5 -15mm behind the vaginal wall. It’s in the shape of a teardrop, about 3mm across. So there you have it.

5. New report reveals what perhaps many of us already knew. Kids from disadvantaged families are much more likely to leave home by age 20 than their wealthier peers. They are also much more likely to be disconnected from education and further employment, according to the Melbourne Institute of Applied Economic and Social Research report.

6. Gotye, have you heard of him? Well, he’s the first Aussie artist in more than a decade to make the US Number 1 spot. Perhaps more a sign of his success is that hit culture-vaccum Glee covered his song on the show. For the record, Gotye hated it.

Here’s the cover, you be the judge:

7. And just because Obama keeps getting groovier, here is a video of the President ‘slow-jamming’ the news with Jimmy Fallon. Uh huh.

    So, two things….

Why put Skype in the article title when FaceTime would have gotten you more clicks?

Second, I liked that “Somebody That I Used to Know” song when I thought it was by The xx, so that’s ruined now.

I think Beyonce is stunning but I wouldn’t say she’s the most beautiful woman in the world!
I don’t know who I’d put there actually… but probably Jessica Alba (from her Dark Angel days) or Mila Kunis. They’re both beautiful!

I love the original and loved the Glee version of Somebody that I used to know.
I think they did it quite well.

Ever since I watched the Obama “Sexy and I Know it” clip and the fact that in a press conference he did the “wiggle wiggle wiggle” bit so the guys could finish the clip, I’ve loved him more and more! This video also makes me love him!

    Beyonce isn’t all that !

I’ve seen pictures of her without makeup. She’s attractive at best and a little above average at worst.

The are countless women who don’t have access to makeup artists, stylists and free designer label everything who top the singer in the looks and style departments, every day in every way.

Watching the latest news on Matthew Newton this morning, I’m shaking my head…. I understand he is sick, but I think its now reached the stage where the public have a right to be protected from him. He needs to be kept away from people and any more danger before he kills someone or himself.

I don’t see anything wrong with saying someone is attractive Bradley. As long as it is respectful and doesn’t make the person feel uncomfortable (as in.. they’re not in the room). At least it’s positive, your comments on Beyonce are exactly the same thing – commenting on someone’s appearance – only negative.

        • Bradley

Hi folks. Yes I commented on Beyonce’s appearance. I said that she was attractive yet I didn’t find her beautiful. You may have to fill me in on which part of my comment was negative. I didn’t resort to using sleazy words or speak of her as if she was a piece of meat. And yes I do find the word “stud” used in the context it was to be sleazy.

          loading...
          • MJ

Well then you’re objecting the word stud not the comment as a whole. You might think it’s sleazy but others may not. I think that’s a personal thing, like if people swear or not.

I’m objecting to the word stud in the text of the comment. It sexualised and trivialised Matt Bommer. There was nothing about my comment that sexualised or trivialised Beyonce.

Okay. I’ll agree to disagree. I’ve just learned that there are times when it is considered quite alright to use words that sexualise, trivialise and objectify a person…..apparently !

So you think it’s rude for anyone to say anything about someone being attractive? Even if that person is a celebrity.. clearly part of their job is to be attractive?
I think it comes down to what words you deem polite and respectful. To me ‘stud’ is the same as saying someone is hot, or sexy. Which to me aren’t rude or disrespectful words that trivialise or objectify a person in this situation. If you were screaming it at his face and not listening to anything he’s saying when he’s in a room speaking to you, then yes, that is all of those things. But you’re watching him on you tube.. I think it’s fine to say he’s a stud. I think it’s just being polite and using your common sense.

            • Bradley

I’m all for telling people that they are attractive. I just don’t find the term “stud” appropriate, much as I don’t find the terms “hornbag”, “sexpot” and suchlike appropriate terms to infer that a female is attractive.

I would have had no complaints had Anon simply written “I find Matt Bommer gorgeous”, or “he is such a beautiful man”. The word “stud” was sexualising, trivialising and objectifying Mr Bommer as a human being.
