Kids suffer second and third degree burns after getting sunburnt at childcare.

The photos are incredibly shocking.

It was intended to be an enjoyable trip to a waterpark on a very hot day.

Instead, two boys have now suffered horrific second and third degree burns after a daycare centre failed to ensure they were wearing sunscreen.

According to Buzzfeed Life, the burns to the five and seven-year-old brothers from Vinita, Oklahoma happened after the centre said they couldn’t stop the boys from taking off their shirts to play in the water.

After the boys’ Aunt Amanda Harvey shared the photos of the resulting burns on her own Facebook page, the news was quickly picked up by media.

Their mother Shaunna Broadway has since spoken out about the incident, telling KOTV, “There’s no excuse for this.”

Speaking to Buzzfeed Life, Broadway explained, “I got off work at 5 p.m. and went to pick them up, and they were clearly burned. [The employees] were actually making fun of my older son, because both boys got sunburns but he was being a ‘baby’ and crying about it.”

Broadway continued, “It was common sense that they shouldn’t have been out in the sun all day, even if they wore their clothes,” Broadway said. “The heat index was 118 degrees in Vinita that day. The news was telling us not to be outside.”

After Broadway took her boys home, their condition only deteriorated. However, KOTV reported that Broadway and her sons were initially sent home from hospitals with pain medication.

KOTV also reported that after the seven-year-old started to complain of chest pains and not being able to breath, Broadway decided to take action and rushed them to the Hillcrest Medical Center Burn Unit in Tulsa.

Here, the family were immediately flown to Shriners Hospital for Children in Galveston, Texas because the burns were so severe.

Photos posted on Harvey’s Facebook page of the children’s second and third degree burns that were treated at Shriners Hospital are not being circulated widely.

Broadway told Buzzfeed Life, “The white stuff is Silvadene cream. What you can’t see is that there are a bunch of tiny blisters forming on his skin underneath the cream, which is why it looks like that.”

Buzzfeed Life has reported that Broadway has filed a lawsuit against the daycare centre and KOTV reports that the Vinita Police Department and DHS are investigating.

The boys are still being treated for the burns.
