"I've been stabbed," his wife said, before the line went dead.

Police are investigating whether the murder of 41-year old Prabha Arun Kumar in Parramatta Park may be linked to a series of sex attacks in the area.

It was meant to be the simplest thing in the world – a mother walking home from work after finishing her shift at an IT company on Saturday night.

The air was balmy, it was around 9.30pm and she was relaxed, chatting on the phone to her husband in India when he heard her life end.

41-year old Prabha Arun Kumar was fatally stabbed to death on Saturday night in Sydney’s Parramatta Park.

Her husband who witnessed the tragic murder from the other end of his phone flew in to Sydney yesterday from India to identify her body.

The Daily Telegraph has reported that he heard her screaming and saying she had just been stabbed.

Prabha Arun Kumar is the mother of a 9-year old girl – and had been living in Sydney for three years. She was due to return to India to reunite with her family in April.

Her brother-in-law, Thrijesh Jayachandra told local newspaper The Hindu that Ms Kumar’s husband heard his wife pleading with her attacker not to harm her before she died.

“She was walking while talking to Arun over the phone when she said that a suspicious-looking man was following her,”

“The next moment, he heard her scream for help and then plead with the man not to harm her and take all her belongings if he wanted. Seconds later he heard her scream and say she was stabbed.

“The call was cut abruptly.”

A nearby resident Arvand Amirian found Ms Kumar. He told Nine News that she had blood all over her.

“There was blood covering her face, her neck, her chest – her chest wasn’t even moving so that’s when I assumed she was gone,” he said

In a media conference yesterday police called for the public’s assistance. A taskforce has been established to investigate Ms Kumar’s suspected murder.

Yesterday Homicide Squad Commander Mick Willing confirmed that Ms Kumar was on the phone to her husband at the time of the attack and said Ms Kumar was last seen on CCTV camera walking on a well lit path from Parramatta Railway Station – it is suspected she was attacked in Parramatta Park only 300 m from her home.

Police have urged urging anyone in the area on Saturday night to come forward.

“We have no reason to believe she was known to her attacker; we’re considering all options at this point in time, including the fact it may have been a random attack.”

“We have nothing to suggest that this is a racially motivated attack, I want to reassure you of that,” Police Commander Willing said.

“Now we are considering all options at this point in time, but it’s very early in the investigation so it’s difficult for me to assume one thing or another.

“We aren’t speculating at all, but we have nothing to suggest at this point in time that this is a racially motivated attack.”

Nine News are reporting that police are investigating a possible link between Ms Kumar’s tragic murder and a series of sex attacks in the Westmead area.

Her friend Sarada Angadimani told Nine News it was devastating.

“Prabha was a really hard working, beautiful person. And, most importantly, a loving mother.”

“I hope God gives the family enough strength to endure this pain.”
