1. Measles death in the US.

A woman who recently died in Washington state was found by a post-mortem examination to have suffered the disease, BBC News reports. The woman lacked some of the common symptoms of the disease, such as a rash, meaning health authorities initially failed to diagnose her cause of death.

Last year, an outbreak of the disease in California’s Disneyland infected more than 100 people.

3. Rio Tinto boss calls for women to have more confidence.

Rio Tinto boss Sam Walsh has called on female workers to become more confident.

Fairfax Media reports Walsh told a mining dinner in London:

“One of the biggest challenges is that you throw a job opportunity at a bloke and he says, `I can do that, I’ve got all the background, I know exactly what I should do’.

“You throw the same opportunity at a woman and … well `I’ve never done that before, it would be a huge stretch’, and what-have-you.”

Walsh agrees that the gender gap in his company needs to be closed — particularly at the senior executive level.

Currently, 82 percent of the company’s workforce is male, Fairfax reports.
