Watch the moment Peter Greste found out his Al Jazeera colleagues had been pardoned.

The moment Greste had been fighting for for eight months.

The Chaser’s Media Circus had just wrapped up filming and the cameras continued to roll.

Peter Greste, the Australian journalist who was freed from an Egyptian prison earlier this year, was handed a phone.

On that phone was the news that Al Jazeera reporters Mohamed Fahmy and Baher Mohamed – the men Greste had shared cells with in the Cairo prison – had been pardoned by the Egyptian President.

“Oh my God,” Greste said.

“I’m sorry, I’m feeling really emotional.”

Last month, Mohamed Fahmy and Baher Mohamed were sentenced to three more years in jail during a retrial. Greste was also found guilty of broadcasting ‘false’ news and sentenced in absentia.

Following the news, Greste said:  “I am absolutely overjoyed for Fahmy and Baher it is absolutely fantastic news and more than anything else we have been concerned for their safety we have been concerned for their welfare.”

“If justice is to be served then everybody who was caught up in this case, including all of us who were convicted in absentia, must have their names cleared,” Greste said.
