A 54-year-old woman and her 14-year-old daughter who were on holiday in Bali have  died after a suspected case of food poisoning.

Noelene Bischoff, a Sunshine Coast health professional, and her daughter Yvana checked into Padang Bai Beach Resort on Bali’s East Coast on Friday for a two-day holiday.

The Resort Manager  Vanni Bareato, told News Limited that the pair had spent the evening in the near-by town Ubud, and five hours after returning to the resort fell violently ill.

It’s been reported that the mother and daughter died because of food poisoning from seafood, but a spokesperson for DFAT has been unable to confirm whether or not this is true.

“Our condolences are with the family and the family have asked that their privacy be respected during this difficult time,” the spokesperson said.

“The Australian Consulate-General in Bali is liaising with local authorities and we are providing consular assistance to the family in Australia.”

We’ll update the story as more details emerge.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.
