After 100 years of rumours: this Jennifer Aniston news is finally true.
Jennifer is officially engaged to her boyfriend of 15 months, Justin Theroux. People magazine is reporting that 41-year-old Theroux asked 43-year-old Aniston to marry him over the weekend.
Theroux’s rep confirmed to the magazine:
“Justin Theroux had an amazing birthday on Friday, receiving an extraordinary gift when his girlfriend, Jennifer Aniston, accepted his proposal of marriage.”

In an interview with InStyle in May, Jennifer spoke about her relationship with Justin.
She said: “Having experienced everything you don’t want in a partner over time, it starts to narrow down to what you actually do want. As I get older, I realise what qualities are important in love, what suits me and what I won’t settle for.”
Jennifer Aniston has woken up to newspapers and magazines splashing stories about her love life and her alleged ‘loneliness’ since she and Brad Pitt split up in January 2005.
The actress had consistently maintained that she was happy with her previously single status but Hollywood just couldn’t come to grips with concept of a single woman being, you know, content and confident on her own.
Jennifer has withstood a lot of criticism and unfounded speculation for the last seven years and has had to have this bizarre fight with the press in her attempts to convince them that she could actually be happy without her former celebrity husband.
There’s something about the way Jennifer has insisted that she would rather live life proudly on her own than settle for for a relationship that was just ‘good enough’ – which makes her particularly endearing.
There was a sharp intake of breath followed by a quick ‘hurrah for Jen’ when we heard the news.
What’s your reaction to the news of Jennifer’s engagement?

So happy for her – just wish he wanted to have a baby with her as she has wanted that for so long.

Love her and very happy for her…but I do feel sorry for Justin’s partner of 14 years (or something) that he supposedly dumped about two seconds before he hooked up with JA. This would feel sh&& for her.

My reaction? Congratulations to them both, I hope they have a lifetime of happiness together

Love her! He’s scarily manscaped.

I’ve always liked Jennifer. hope this works out for her.

I wonder how long it will be before a magazine comes out with a cover story about “Jen engaged to make Brad jealous!” or “Jen’s engaged bu still pining away for Brad.”
She was in an unfortunate situation the the media have carried on about it for years. Hope she’ s happy

Heard something on the radio this morning how it was “allegedly” the weekend that Brad and Angelina were “reportedly” going to marry. It was accompanied with the usual taunts of “oh isnt it funny that she gets enagaged on that weekend, must be a stab at Brangelina, blah, blah”
I too am happy for Jen

I think she is pretty but she is boring. Her interviews are dull dull dull. She never has anything interesting to say and over the years I must have read dozens with her. I don’t get the fascination with this boring woman who makes average movies.
loading...
So why did you read dozens of interviews about her?
loading...
That cover of GQ where Aniston (a talented, funny actress) looks great but isn’t wearing a top next to Paul Rudd (a talented, funny actor) who looks great but is fully clothed…ARGH.
loading...
It’s a mens magazine. The guys who read GQ probably aren’t too interested in a shirtless Paul Rudd.

I’m only a “child” and even I can see how hard it would be to be Jennifer Aniston. Rumours of her still in love with Brad Pitt have been going on for far too long and it seems like every time she finally is as close to a fairy-tale as she can get, the media come in and ruin it by making up false rumours, saying how she feels from a “source”, who for all we know is her drunk next door neighbour from a few years back, claiming to be her best friend, but is really the jealous cow who had to be forced to leave Jen’s house after trying to get her mum’s famous quadriple chocolate swirl cake (in the unlikeliness of it actually happening). You see, adults are forever trying to teach children how to act, like telling not to talk behind each other’s backs, when they’re probably doing the exact same thing to another poor mum.
Anyway, congrats Jen. I loved you in friends and you seem so nice.

LOVE her! Always have! I have been a huge fan ever since Friends and I think she just seems like a lovely person. Congrats to her!! Obviously I don’t know her personally, but I am genuinely excited for her.
loading...
It’s weird isn’t it Nicky? I felt exactly the same – genuinely pleased that she looks so happy and has had great news, after all that crappy speculation that she was still in love with Brad. It’s weird how you can feel like you know a celebrity when you’ve never met them and never will!
loading...
just thinking that when posting. Interesting our reaction to those well known people we of course have never met.
loading...
Congratulations to them! Yay for happy news!!!
loading...
Yes, we do. Because we like and admire her, and have followed her story for the last few years. Don’t need to justify my interest any further. Thanks.

Bugger…. this was mean to be a reply to Ali Flint below.

At this point I think I’ve become so cynical about celebrity marraiges that I think what’s the point in wishing them the best, it wont last. Oh well, hopefully I’ll be proven wrong this time.

What is this? Who is Jennifer Anniston and why should we be interested in her? Surely she is merely an entertainer. Is she our exemplar? Certainly not. Unless entertainers are our exemplars now. Has she or will she contribute anything of lasting value to our lives and the lives of our children? Did she give us the magnificent welfare state we have at this time in history? Did she give us an internal combustion engine so that we can drive around endlessly in our cars? Did she offer us any semblance of female equity such as our precious suffragettes, who got us the vote? What precisely are the virtues which make her memorable or even worth mentioning? Did she win an Olympic gold medal out of her own personal efforts and struggles or something similar – win Wimbledon etc? Is there something of value we can learn from her life? Does “famous” mean “interesting” or “important” these days. Is there a worthy answer to all of these questions? Oh pplease let’s all get a reality check by asking relevant questions … do we really want Jennifer Anniston in our headspace at all, and if we do, for what reason?

This is a good news story that I for one am happy to read about. Always good to hear nice news, there’s enough sad news around.
And also, I happen to like Jen’s acting, especially in Friends, think she’s great, and think everyone deserves happiness.
loading...
Did Jennifer Aniston give me a reason to laugh and relax since the early 90s? Yes she did. Did Jennifer Aniston entertain and touch millions of people through her acting? Yes she did. Did she change the world? Maybe not. But don’t discount the power and reach of making people laugh.
loading...
You must be mistaken. It was really the brilliant program writers who made you laugh, not Anniston. As I wrote previously, let’s take a REALITY check.
loading...
Did the writers on Friends bestow Aniston with perfect comic timing?
I think not.
loading...
Aniston has ONE ‘n’, not two. Just in case you wanted to keep ranting
I hope that you have a great night, and chin up Ali, you sound a bit frustrated at hearing someone else’s good news. Now, I’m off to feed my brain by reading the latest on Kristin Cavallari and her baby, and look at Miley’s brave new haircut and judge it.
PS. life can be so serious and challenging, sometimes it is OK to enjoy lighter news.
loading...
I can’t imagine rising to the top levels of her profession is any less effort than winning a gold medal, or any other worthy achievement for the most part…
loading...
Wow. Not enough to do with your day Methunks….
loading...
Oh the fun police have arrived, go read SBS news or something.
loading...
Ali Flint, firstly, *you* clicked on this story! And then *you* spent a good 7-10 minutes writing your rant. What history making developments have you been up to lately? Are you the one that came up with that recent breast-cancer-fighting breakthrough? No, probably not – it is evident you have too much time on your hands to do anything such as that. Good luck venting about every celebrity article on the net. That’ll carry you through to 7500AD and beyond!
loading...
You also “clicked” on this article. Your comments are thus equally applicable to yourself. And my own personal accomplishments (which are many) are not the issue. The issue concerns the elevation of irrelevant individuals to cult status and the vacuous minds of those who elevate them. I thank you for your most worthy comments.
loading...
Ouch! So erudite, yet somehow, so soulless.
loading...
Until you are able to tell me and others exactly and precisely what is a “soul” and give us some guarantee that you actually have one, it may be wiser to refrain from using such terminology.
loading...
Good lord – take a breath!!

I’ve got deja vu from reading your post. Did you by any chance post several long-winded, increasingly hysterical rants about how much you hate Jennifer Aniston compared to Angelina Jolie, on a MM story earlier this year?
The reason I think this is that I’ve not seen similar vitriol posted on any other celeb stories in recent times. (I doubt Miley Cyrus’ new haircut is going to cure cancer either.) Has Jennifer Aniston done something to harm you personally in some way?
If the earlier poster wasn’t you, then you may have a soul mate out there.
loading...
You may be advantaged by not mistaking objectively impartial criticism for “vitriol”. I actually feel a great deal of compassion for Aniston. The point consistently made by me is that it may be folly to elevate her relevance or importance.
loading...
Curious, as you can no doubt see, I use my real name, and I don’t hide behind an avatar (such as “curious”). If the post to which you refer was mine, it will be prescripted by my own name, which appears here for all to see. Any negativity you sense in my writings you will find, upon close scrutiny, are directed at the common folly by which we elevate irrelevant or unimportant issues and people.
loading...
Nobody is irrelevant or unimportant Ali. And I don’t think it is a folly to be happy to hear about someone’s good news. I hope you have a lovely day.
loading...
Just thinking that exact same thought myself!
loading...
Oh, have a cry!
loading...
No… she didn’t invent an internal combustion engine or win gold (not many of us did). But it would be hard to not know who she is, and to wish her well. She is a woman whose husband was unfaithful to her, and left her. That is a universal, and very painful experience. And Jen handled herself very well in the midst of the breakup and endless media speculation. The other woman is hard to live, no matter who – but Ange… that’s gotta hurt.
So I think many women can relate to the pain of a breakup, and the effort to rebuild your life and trust again, that she has been through. Sure, there are greater losses and achievements to endure, but Jen is very likeable and we like to see her happy. Friends was great fun and made a lot of people laugh. Her comic timing as Rachel Green was fantastic.
Jen seems like good fun, and a very loyal mate. Nice traits. This is a light, happy, good-news piece and that is fine. The headline/topic suggest that is what you are in for, so read if interested.
Go Jen. Justin seems like an intelligent and insightful man with a very interesting career. I hope you are over the moon.

I’ve always been Team Aniston

Wanna bet that a surrogate baby birth announcement is next? 43yo? Running out of time!
loading...
So who’s going to get married first – Brad and Ang or Jen and Justin?
loading...
Who cares. It is well and truly time to let the comparisons and wedding / baby / happy-ever-after “race” stop. Same for Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey. They are over it and have moved on – so should the rest of us! It’s not 2005 anymore. I am excited about JA & JT’s future

Lovely news.
But I know how she must have felt about having to constantly say she was happy being single. Every time I’ve been single for awhile people have said in reassuring, hushed tones, “don’t worry, there will be someone there for you soon”. For goodness sake, half the time I wasn’t even looking, I was just enjoying being me and getting to know who I am.
Yes it is really, truly lovely to be in a happy committed relationship, but I was also pretty happy in those single girl days.
loading...
im so happy for her! and wish them all the luck love and happiness in the world! i really hope that they can make it thru!!!
loading...
oh some good news! they make a hot couple!!!
loading...
awww i thought from the FB teaser that she was pregnant!!! oh well, this is good news too
loading...
Good for her, I hope she’s found the happiness she deserves.
loading...
Good to see she’s happy. All she needed was to find someone her own age (which she did, finally)
loading...
Meanwhile, back at the ranch, Demi Moore has latched on to yet another baby-faced minion in her search for love. Surely nothing makes you look younger than being with an older man??
loading...
Lovely news, I really hope this is the right guy for her. She looks so happy!
loading...
Yayayayayaya!!
I am so happy if this is true… She deserves the best relationship after having to publically put up with a horrible breakup.. And lose her hubby to Angie no less!
loading...
Justin Theroux is pretty gorgeous and LOVE his cousin Louis!
loading...
He’s also a talented writer – Tropic Thunder and Iron Man 2.
A heads up MM, there’s a spelling mistake the first time you write ‘Theroux’.
loading...
I count two typos / spelling mistakes of Theroux – one in paragraph 2 and one in the picture caption
loading...
Louis is awesome! Love his docos.
loading...
Justin and Louis are cousins??!!!!
loading...
Ooohhh, I had no idea Justin and Louis were cousins! Love Louis’ docos and Justin is pretty hot
loading...
Yes, I know everything Louis as I’ve had a big fat crush on him for years! When the docos first started on ABC2 a few years back friends and strangers would say ho much my partner reminded them of Louis but the funny thing is I don’t really see the resemblance!
loading...
Louis’ father Paul Theroux is also well known and very accomplished
loading...
After all the rumours and this one still hasn’t been confirmed. Yeah still a rumour!
loading...
Third paragraph of the article.
His rep told the magazine:
“Justin Theroux had an amazing birthday on Friday, receiving an extraordinary gift when his girlfriend, Jennifer Aniston, accepted his proposal of marriage.”
loading...
Um his representative confirmed it? I’m pretty sure that doesn’t happen with rumours….
loading...
It confused me too. It says “reportedly” then it says his rep confirmed it.
loading...
Yay – finally !
