"I think I'm going to die". An inquest reveals Eloise's haunting final message.

The “diet pills” contained a DNP, which is a pesticide.

On April 12th, 21-year-old Eloise Perry – who had a lifelong struggle with body image –  took a lethal dose of “diet pills” she purchased over the internet. And now, an inquest into her death has heard that just hours before her death she sent a text message saying “I think i’m going to die.”

After taking the pills, which contained a lethal substance known as dinitrophenol (or DNP) Eloise admitted herself to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital in the United Kingdom, telling doctors she had taken the pills.

Although she was lucid and stable upon arriving at the hospital, her mother Fiona Perry said that the severity of Eloise’s condition was not revealed until doctors carried out a toxicology report. She died hours later.

In an online tribute, Fiona explained: “The drug was in her system, there was no antidote, two tablets was a lethal dose and she had taken eight.”

An inquest into her death has now heard that she sent a text message to a university lecturer in the hours before her death, which read:

No one is known to have survived after being sick after taking DNP. I am so scared. I am so sorry for being stupid.

Thank you for everything. I never deserved it. Please pass on my absolute appreciation for all that you have done for me.

Thank you more than words.

Ella.

Her mother also told the inquest she was aware her daughter had taken slimming drugs before, but was not aware of the dangers of DNP.

She has since warned others against taking the drug.

“Please don’t take this drug. If you’re somebody that makes the mistake that my daughter did, and takes too many of these pills, the doctors won’t be able to get them out of your system. It’s an awful way to die. I wouldn’t wish it on anybody.” she told Sky News.

While DNP is not illegal as it is used as a pesticide it has been deemed “extremely dangerous and not fit for human consumption” since 1938.
