Student in custody after stabbing incident.

An American school student has allegedly stabbed 19 fellow pupils at Franklin Regional High School in Murrysville. At least five of the teenagers are understood to have been critically injured following the 30-minute attack.

The student responsible is a 16-year-old boy who wielded two knives at the very beginning of the school day. The boy is now in the custody of local police.

We won’t know what happened to Peaches Geldof for at least a week.

The confusion and shock around the death of Peaches Geldof, 25, will only be prolonged after news that a post-mortem held on Wednesday night proved inconclusive. The police are now waiting for the results of a toxicology report, which will hopefully hold some answers for Peaches’ grieving family.

Many in the media have speculated that Peaches’ sudden death may be connected to her devotion to controversial extended juicing cleanses; while nobody in any official capacity has speculated. The death is not being treated as suspicious and reports are that neither drugs nor a suicide note were discovered at the scene.

Hey Dad! cast open up to A Current Affair about convicted sex offender Robert Hughes

Actor Ben Oxenbould claims that he was unable to find work in the Australian television industry after Hey Dad! finished, and was unfairly targeted for supporting his co-star Sarah Monahan. Monahan has maintained for many years that she was sexually assaulted as a child by the show’s star Robert Hughes whilst on set. This week, Hughes was finally convicted of 10 separate child sex offences.

Oxenbould told A Current Affair last night that he’d been warned “you’ll never work again” and learned “my lesson in professionalism was ‘shut up about the paedophile’” for defending and protecting Monahan. Monahan, who has finally seen justice done, said, “I’m really sad this whole thing happened but I‘m glad the verdict came in and people, these girls are validated.”

Search zone for missing flight MH370 narrows

UPDATE:

Search crews have reportedly detected a new signal in the Indian Ocean, which may be from Flight MH370.

An RAAF P3 Orion plane in the search zone detected what may be a signal in the vicinity of Ocean Shield.

The signal is potentially from a man-made source (like a black box), but needs to be further analysed.

It seems that Australian authorities are closer than ever to finding missing Malaysian Airways flight MH370. More audio signals that could be consistent with the plane’s black box have been detected and the search zone has now been narrowed down to 1,300 square kilometres.

Chantelle and Steve win The Block, proving reality TV producers never settle for the predictable

Chantelle Ford and Steve O’Donnell have taken out the latest series of popular reality TV show The Block. The pair sold their apartment for a massive $2.47 million last night, which was more than $630,000 above the reserve price.

“We had never designed a room together. We didn’t know – with no background – if anything we did was of value, and now we know [it was],” said Steve after the pair’s win.

The underdog duo seemed pretty surprised by their win, but certainly not in the way most of the country were. Far from the favourites to take out the show, Steve had regularly been labelled as lazy and inexperienced by the other contestants. The pair scored an extra $100,000 for their win because the group collectively made such a large profit.

Prosecutor launches blistering line of questioning on Oscar Pistorius

Gerrie Nel, the prosecutor in the murder trial of Oscar Pistorius in Pretoria, is making headlines for his incredible cross-examination of the defendant. Nel got straight to the point during his questioning, demanding forcefully that the former Olympian take responsibility for his actions on Valentine’s Day of 2013.

“You shot and killed her,” Nel said to Pistorius. “Say it ‘I shot and killed Reeva Steenkamp.'”

Nel then played footage of Pistorius firing a gun at a watermelon and then gloating about his excellent aim and how the fruit had exploded like a brain. The prosecutor then forced Pistorius to look at images of Steenkamp’s damaged skull, trying to get the alleged killer to admit to the crime. The cross-examination continues today.

Turnbull locks in mixed technology NBN

Communications Minister Malcolm Turnbull has issued a statement of expectations to the board of NBN Co, detailing that the national broadband network is to be built with a mix of technologies.

The proposed network will use existing copper technologies in combination with fibre to street cabinets and wireless and satellite connections where needed. The plan differs from the NBN proposed by the previous government, which used fibre in 93 per cent of premises.

Piranhas cause sewer blockage in picturesque English village

Have man-eating piranhas invaded the village of Dittons Priors, in Stropshire? It’s unlikely. But the carnivorous fish, more commonly found in the South American Amazon river basin, were found to be the cause of a sewer blockage in the village.

While the police are unsure of exactly how the fish came to be stuck in the sewers, they suspect that a resident had been disposing of the fish by flushing them down the toilet.
